We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"What I found most valuable in Amazon EKS is its maturity as a cloud computing technology.""The feature that I have found most valuable is that it is very user-friendly.""It has always helped me. It is the repository where we store our images...The microservices appear to be well-made, and I don't have any comments on them as I don't see any flaws.""The most valuable features of Amazon EKS are its auto scaling ability and the ability for service discovery.""We haven't faced any major issues in one and a half years of use.""We do not have to do a lot of administration, such as create virtual machines, or worry about our controllers or nodes going down because the solution is fully managed by Amazon.""Provides high performance and easy manageability.""Break down your application into small modules to improve resiliency"

"They have a very nice web interface to allow you to manage and reorganize your server.""It is also important that Linode offers worldwide coverage via multiple data centers. The ability to deploy on multiple servers, worldwide, allows us to have distributed services and failover and redundancy.""Because of the way that their pricing model is set up, I can scale up or down the size of a customer's server very easily. It makes life very easy for me when they run out of space, need more speed or RAM, etc. I can very easily pay the difference and reboot the machine, and now I have the upgrade that I wanted. That just makes it extremely simple.""The most valuable features are the simple scalability and ease of starting a new virtual machine.""The fact that you can do any Linux distribution is great. You can try out any Linux distribution, even some of the more obscure ones, and they are always keeping them up-to-date. As soon as a new distribution comes out, it is on the platform pretty much the same day, which I find really helpful.""Linode has many other cloud servers across the globe.""When I started using Linode, I found its functionality easy to navigate, user-friendly and responsive to my needs. It provides clear reminders about services I'm not using, like DNS zones, which I appreciate.""I very much like the support that you get, and I think that it's excellent."

Cons
"I would like to see the user interface improved because it is hard to find and not straightforward.""Amazon EKS needs to improve customer operations and technical support.""I would like to see it a little more stable, more operational, and more convenient to develop.""A cluster is required on-premises, which takes a lot of time.""The management of the nodes in Amazon EKS should be improved.""The tool's setup is complex.""I would like Amazon EKS to be easier to configure on various environments like Windows or Linux installations""They should include some essential configuration features to it."

More Amazon EKS Cons →

"Its cost can be improved.""I've had some difficulties with some of their IP addresses being banned by certain mail servers.""When it comes to marketing and exposure, Linode needs improvement because I just randomly found them by looking for Linux solutions.""I'm not sure what could be improved at Linode since they're likely already making enhancements, especially with the Akamai acquisition and, I don't have any specific suggestions as I haven't encountered any major issues. I might consider using API for managing DNS records, but overall, I'm satisfied with Linode.""It's not really an issue with Linode itself but upgrading Linux major versions can be challenging. It would be be fantastic if Linode developed a way to ease transitioning to a major new Linux upgrade.""They are already working on the firewalls and VLANs, which need improvement, and are now in beta. I am on the beta program for the firewalls, but I can't use it yet because they are only in Mumbai and Australia, and I am not in those data centres. This is the one thing that I have been waiting for almost since the day that I joined them, so it is nice that they are doing that. The VLANs will be an improvement as well, and I am keen and waiting for that.""Our primary concern is always the latency.""I would like Linode (without cluttering things) to provide some type of DevOps workflow where people are configuring their pipelines from running their tests and deploying to their test server. Once approved by clicking a button, it just gets deployed to production. I would like something like Azure DevOps, which we use for large applications, and would be something nice to have in Linode."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "The solution is more expensive than other competitors and does not require a license."
  • "Cloud based pay-as-you-go pricing"
  • "My company paid for the license."
  • "Pricing is dependent upon instance type."
  • "The solution is quite costly and developers will start exploring other solutions or moving their workloads to other clouds if costs aren't reduced."
  • "The price could be cheaper. I would rate it as seven out of ten."
  • "Amazon EKS has fair pricing. It's better in terms of pricing than other platforms."
  • "I would like a cheaper version of it."

  • "I pay just over £20 per month and have done so ever since I started eight years ago, which to me is good value."
  • "The pricing model is very simple. I like the simplicity of it, starting at $5, then doubling as it goes up from there. That is a brilliant idea, and it is not complex at all. It is about as dead simple as you can imagine. So, if you want to double what you have, then you double your price, pay the money, and reboot. It is done. It's that simple. You can't beat that."
  • "One key difference is that pricing is very hard to come by and to understand with all the bigger companies. Their pricing models are so weird and it's hard to figure out exactly how much I am going to pay for this kind of service. Everything is piecemeal. With Linode, it's simple and straightforward. You know exactly what you will have to pay at the end of the day."
  • "Compared to other service providers, like AWS and Google, the cost of services are much less and more affordable. We are saving about 90 percent by going with Linode versus other cloud providers."
  • "The pricing model is very simple. If you have very small applications, you can use the plan which costs $5 per month. That gives you 50 GB of memory and almost 1 GB of RAM. If you need more than you have to select the next plan which is $10 per month, which has about 70 GB of data and 2 GB of RAM."
  • "The value for the price is really good."
  • "Pricing is very good and flexible, according to the resources required."
  • "Being that they are small, their prices are slightly higher than the large providers like Amazon if you compare raw computing power."

    Overview

Amazon Elastic Kubernetes Service (Amazon EKS) is a fully managed Kubernetes service. Customers such as Intel, Snap, Intuit, GoDaddy, and Autodesk trust EKS to run their most sensitive and mission critical applications because of its security, reliability, and scalability.

EKS is the best place to run Kubernetes for several reasons. First, you can choose to run your EKS clusters using AWS Fargate, which is serverless compute for containers. Fargate removes the need to provision and manage servers, lets you specify and pay for resources per application, and improves security through application isolation by design. Second, EKS is deeply integrated with services such as Amazon CloudWatch, Auto Scaling Groups, AWS Identity and Access Management (IAM), and Amazon Virtual Private Cloud (VPC), providing you a seamless experience to monitor, scale, and load-balance your applications. Third, EKS integrates with AWS App Mesh and provides a Kubernetes native experience to consume service mesh features and bring rich observability, traffic controls and security features to applications. Additionally, EKS provides a scalable and highly-available control plane that runs across multiple availability zones to eliminate a single point of failure.
EKS runs upstream Kubernetes and is certified Kubernetes conformant so you can leverage all benefits of open source tooling from the community. You can also easily migrate any standard Kubernetes application to EKS without needing to refactor your code.
