We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"Setting up the monitoring agents was straightforward.""The event alerting feature or the trigger system is what I like most about AppDynamics Server Monitoring. Whenever an issue occurs, the tool automatically generates an even trigger that tells engineers in the company to take action, so it's an essential feature of AppDynamics Server Monitoring. Another valuable feature of the tool is end-to-end monitoring, which means if you need to debug, you can go transaction by transaction, where the issue lies, and how it's linked. For example, if it's a low-performance issue, you can look into it more through AppDynamics Server Monitoring in terms of which area takes too much time to execute. You can also see the SQL queries and the kind of query going on through the tool.""The auto-discovery of the logs is the most valuable feature. It requires minimal configuration, we just need to set up on once and it automatically detects through the code.""The solution offers great visibility that allows you to track where errors originated.""The product has the ability to drill down to the errors whenever we have issues.""I like Business iQ the most, so far. It has great analytics configurations and I can get real-time updates. We have eCommerce releases every week. So the one use case that I use Business iQ is to compare before and after release performance using AppDynamics.""The product provides a nice end-user experience.""It is a stable solution. Stability-wise, I don't see any problems in the solution...The solution's technical support was good."

"Profile templates: The ability to generate the profiles and lay them down so the servers are built consistently. I would say that's probably the biggest piece of it.""Gives the business interfaces to view real-time pictures of IT business services.""The stability is very good. I have never had an issue with it over the three years that I have been using it.""The best part is that you can integrate a two-way network. Earlier we could not manage the storage and ToR switch. Now we can create a LAN with our storage without any interface. In terms of switch management, it is now easy to understand the current configuration. It provides centralized management. It provides a single pane, and you can easily do all updates in one shot. It is a great product.""Administration-wise it's going to be easier. More smooth and more flexible.""Easy to add servers and get them monitored and manageable.""The template management makes the deployment of the firmware updates much faster.""The most valuable features are the composable structure, infrastructure, and automation."

Cons
"I would like the ability to choose from some pre-defined dashboards and reports because as it is now, you have to define them separately for each implementation.""In the next release, I would like to see the configuration of the data and more support for new applications. It should support new languages.""The tool should provide information like the number of connections and processes utilized in real time.""The product’s dashboard could be more easy to implement.""The solution could be more mobile friendly.""I could not find a user-friendly interface for querying, and analytics sometimes gives the wrong results...I feel that analytics could have been better in searching and running the analytical queries.""The solution has performance issues after we deploy the agent.""Things are being done differently in the industry now, and many of these problems are being solved with cloud databases."

More AppDynamics Server Monitoring Cons →

"The solution's console can be improved by making it more user-friendly and adding the capability to filter the reports out using only the information required.""Does not allow for switch configuration other than through OneView.""It needs more reporting capabilities.""I would like to see them expand into other cloud platforms, non-HPE platforms.""We've had issues, for example, with RAM.""It would be better if we can add every HPE device to OneView, such as MSA, as well as the other servers like the DL server and ML server.""It's a little slow sometimes. Overall, I think it does what it's supposed to do. I think that as they evolve it, it'll get quicker.""Technical support is not very good. The engineers do not know a lot about the product, even when asked simplistic questions."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "My understanding is that the price of this solution is quite high, compared to other products."
  • "The pricing for AppDynamics Server Monitoring in Africa and the Middle East is too expensive, so it's very hard to sell it to customers. If there could be different pricing or package for the region, that would be great. My company pays for the license of AppDynamics Server Monitoring on a per-agent, per-server basis. It's $700 to $1000 per server, and it's paid annually. My company is on a subscription model for the solution. On a scale of one to five, where one is expensive and five is cheap, my rating for the price of AppDynamics Server Monitoring is a two."
  • "The solution has a high cost."
  • "AppDynamics Server Monitoring is a very expensive product, but if you negotiate well, you get value for money...My company used to make early payments toward the licensing costs of the solution, but now my company has opted for a different licensing model."
  • "The tool is expensive."

  • "HPE had some other solutions, but they were actually quite expensive to buy. So, when OneView came along, it was kind of reasonable in terms of price for licenses, etc."
  • "Use it. It is free."
  • "I am happy with the price."
  • "HPE could lower the price."
  • "I think that the price of OneView is $500 USD per server, which is a little high."
  • "The solution is free to use, but if you want the management aspect you require a virtual machine such as C7000 or Synergy which require licenses."
  • "Synergy does not require iLO licenses but servers and enclosures must be purchased."
  • "This license cost for OneView was $3,000 USD."
