We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"We have a lot of nightly jobs that need to be run. Therefore, we perform a lot of calculations and processes during nighttime hours.""The interface is good.""The most valuable features of AppWorx Workload Automation are simplicity and reliability. Additionally, they recently transformed the UI which is better.""It is an object-based approach to task and process design in conjunction with conditional logic and event-based scheduling actions, which enables a build once/use often design methodology to be employed.""It is really a robust product.""The solution is very user friendly so anyone can use it.""Scheduling is a good feature.""It has improved my organization through automation of back office and infrastructure procedures, and by integrating and orchestrating key business applications spanning multiple technology stacks."

"BIM is a good tool to monitor SLAs, and being a financial organization, this is a very good feature for us.""We value Control-M mainly for the ability to control multiple nodes in a coordinated manner. Control-M has the ability to really coordinate across a lot of nodes.""The initial setup is straightforward.""Cross-platform support: A Linux job can be dependent on a Windows job, which can be dependent on many other flavours of hardware/software. Your batch is therefore managed by a single tool, allowing you to monitor your entire flow.""The unified view where you can define, orchestrate, and monitor applications, workflows, and data pipelines is important because we have more than one team working on Control-M. We have a support team, a job-creation team, and a SAP team. We can all work together on it. It avoids anyone from working on his part and not using the latest modifications.""The ability to dynamically predict batch run time is so valuable.""Control-M has improved application reliability and the SLAs in our company by quite a bit. You can see if problems are coming. If we have an SLA in a couple of hours, we know well before that couple hours if processing is behind, and it allows us to take some preventative action.""Self Service, BIM features are most valuable. As no need to login to EM client and check the job status."

Cons
"Reporting, forecasting and intelligence could be improved.""The graphical interface is pretty cool but not the best so it could use some improvement.""We are looking for additional features that would allow us to call APIs and integrate the product with other tools more effectively.""The internal security model can be complex when configuring multiple user groups.""It is not really scaling per say because they are not putting much into it. They are trying to push their new product.""It is difficult to integrate with the Active Directory (AD).""It has been a deprecated product, because it is so old. There has been a couple of new solutions that are a little more advanced.""The scalability could improve."

"Control-M reporting is a bit of a pain point right now. Control-M doesn't have robust reporting. I would like to see better reporting options. I would like to be able to pull charts or statistics that look nicer. Right now, we can pull some data, but it is kind of choppy. It would be nicer to have enterprise-level reporting that you can present to managers.""While they have a very good reporting facility, the reports that I'm asked to produce, a lot of times aren't necessarily what we need.""I would like not to have to reach out to a third-party application company to do automated notifications. Right now, we still have people manually calling people and emailing people. There's a company called xMatters - and there are others - that has an API through Control-M that can automate any aspect of failure management. I'd like to see it build right into the product. I'd like to see a better notification product.""Its operations and infrastructure can be improved.""I've never been very successful when researching ways to utilize Batch Impact Manager. It's a tool to set up dummy jobs in your job flow and it's supposed to come back to you and say, 'Okay, for this job flow, you are 50 percent complete at a certain point in time'...I would like things like Batch Impact Manager to be a little more user-friendly, out-of-the-box.""I would like to have a web version of Control-M to replace the client. Currently, our support and jobs-creation teams are using the client and that needs to be installed on a PC. It's very heavy, consuming a lot of resources compared to the web portal. I know that they're trying to improve the client with the latest version, but for me, there hasn't been enough improvement yet.""The high availability that comes from BMC with its supplied Postgres database is very limited. Even using your customer-supplied Postgres database is problematic. We have engaged with them regarding this, but it is difficult. My company doesn't want to do this and BMC doesn't want to do that. We just need to find some middle ground to get the proper high availability. We're also moving away, like the rest of the world, from the more expensive offerings, like Oracle. We are trying to use Postgres, which is free. The stability is good. It is just that the high availability configuration is not ideal. It could be better.""There is definitely room for improvement. Version 9.0.20 actually comes with a web-based interface, but there are still a lot of things unavailable with it. There will eventually be more inclusions added into the web interface, but there is still a long way to go."

  • "Compare to other tools Pricing and licensing was more. It should be decrease."
  • "BMC does NOT have a great licensing model from my perspective."
  • "we are more looking for a better cost/license/performance model because BMC, while we could say it's the best, is also the most expensive. That is what we are probably most annoyed with. We are paying something like €1,000,000 over three years for having 4,000 jobs running. That's expensive."
  • "We have account based licensing. There are two or three types of licensing. One of them is based on the number of jobs, so we a license close to 4,000 jobs per day. The cost is based on the different modules, which we buy from them. If we a buy a hardware module, which we are presently using and integrating, that is an additional cost, but I'm not sure of the amount. Each module comes with a different cost."
  • "As we increase the number of tasks or jobs on the system, there are concerns about cost."
  • "We have a five-year contract with task-based licensing."
  • "This product saves hours in a day based on my experience working here versus other companies with manually operations."
  • "It works on task-based licensing."

    Overview

AppWorx Workload Automation automates your Ellucian’s Banner or Fiserv DNA processing. This innovative, best-in-class task scheduling solution accelerates your processing, provides visibility and control over business processes, and mitigates risk in both environments.

    AppWorx Workload Automation Can:

    • Automate banner processes without writing scripts
    • Automate testing
    • Document process flows and procedures
    • Maintain a history and audit trail of production runs
    • Automate migration from development to test to production environments
    • Reduce training
    • Eliminate human errors associated with manual tasks

Benefits of AppWorx Workload Automation For Your Ellucian’s Banner

    • Automate recurring business processes, such as administration and record-keeping, while complying with state and federal reporting requirements.
    • Batch jobs are processed accurately.
    • If there are any inconsistencies or job failures, Automic for Banner immediately sends email notifications to the appropriate personnel.
    • Significantly improve your return on investment.
    • Automating batch processing and report generation.
    • Eliminating server overload by using a combination of features (AppWorx provides queues to control the number of jobs that can be submitted to a server at any given time, can spot duplicate runs of the same reports, and can delay impromptu reports submitted by individuals until all regularly scheduled reports are processed, etc.).
    • Eliminates the need for developers to write shell, PERL, or batch scripts to automate scheduling.
    • Automatically keeps a history of every job run, the parameters that were used, and the output generated at each step. These records are readily available for viewing online and can be printed for reference.
    • Export and import utilities make migration an error-free, repeatable process. Database logins, printers, and libraries can be mapped when you are moving process flows to a new environment. Mapping eliminates potentially erroneous code changes.

Benefits of AppWorx Workload Automation For Your Fiserv DNA Processing

    • Run DNA jobs directly, eliminating the need to copy and release queues for each batch cycle.
    • Automatically run DNA jobs at the optimum time using sophisticated scheduling.
    • Run multiple DNA jobs at the same time in parallel from one batch station.
    • Eliminate potential data entry errors by automatically retrieving parameters from your enterprise databases.
    • Automatically check the results from one step to ensure data integrity before continuing to the next step.
    • Alert production analysts to problems the instant they occur.
    • Coordinate processing steps across all software applications.
    • Automatically distribute output files to vendors.
    • Perform all operations from one GUI client.
