We performed a comparison between AWS Amplify and GitLab based on real PeerSpot user reviews.
Find out in this report how the two Release Automation solutions compare in terms of features, pricing, service and support, easy of deployment, and ROI."Typically, whenever we make changes and need to switch environments (e.g., dev to production), it's easy for our developers to maintain the state of each environment and make customizations as needed. They don't necessarily need to involve the cloud team for basic management."
"The most valuable feature of AWS Amplify is authentication."
"The link with Figma is very nice. You can create your design in Figma, and then you can import it into AWS Amplify and use it. You can link it to your data source and data bindings."
"The user interface is really good so that helps with huge teams who need to collaborate."
"GitLab integrates well with other platforms."
"The most valuable feature of GitLab is the ability to upload scripts and make changes when needed and then reupload them. Additionally, the solution is user-friendly."
"The solution's most valuable feature is that it is compatible with GitHub. The product's integration capabilities are sufficient for our small company of 35 people."
"CI/CD is valuable for me."
"This is a scalable solution. We had around 200 users working with it."
"We have seen a couple of merge requests or pull requests raised in GitLab. I see the interface, the way it shows the difference between the two source codes, that it is easy for anyone to do the review and then accept the request; the pull request is the valuable feature."
"The most valuable features of GitLab are the review, patch repo, and plans are in YAML."
"AWS Amplify could improve in the deployment. It would be beneficial to have more methods, such as automation."
"Its capability to handle big projects needs to be improved. If you generate a user interface in Figma and import everything where all components are in one directory, currently, it is complicated. It isn't able to cope with that. For small projects, it is not an issue, but if you have big projects and you want to use AWS Amplify, then it gets more difficult. That is the most important point for me. It should be improved to cope better with bigger projects."
"AWS can implement multiple web applications, and cross-platform applications, like iOS."
"I rate the support from GitLab a four out of five."
"I would like more Agile features in the Premium version. The Premium version should have all Agile features that exist in the Ultimate version. IBM AOM has a complete Agile implementation, but in GitLab, you only have these features if you buy the Ultimate version. It would be good if we can use these in the Premium version."
"The tool should include a feature that helps to edit the code directly."
"Expand features to match other tools such as a static code analysis tool so third-party integrations are not required."
"GitLab's Windows version is yet not available and having this would be an improvement."
"The solution should again offer an on-premises deployment option."
"As GitLab is not perfect, what needs improvement in the solution is the Wiki feature of the groups or the repertories because currently, it's not searchable by default. You'll need an indexing service such as Elasticsearch to make it searchable, and that requires too much work, so for me, it's the main feature that should be improved in GitLab. In the next version of the solution, from the top of my head, the documentation could be improved. Besides the Wiki, it would be good if there's documentation that would be automatically generated based on the code repository. In other words, there should be some tutorials from GitLab for developers in the next release."
"We have only seen a couple of issues on Gitlab, which we use for building some of the applications."
