We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"AWS Backup's most valuable feature is that you can configure it remotely to create backups.""The most valuable features we have found are the flexibility in the services offered.""The advantage that AWS Backup has over competitors is that it's very simple.""What I like about AWS Backup is its simple approach to a complex problem.""We can directly back up EC2 instances in AWS without using any third-party applications.""It works well as a backup and as a service.""When I was using an on-premises backup, there was an external hard drive or something like that. I had a backup server, but I had a few problems related to transfer when I had to restore something that I have deleted. I had to wait for after-office hours to do something like that, but now I just have to send a mail. Within one hour, I have my restored file.""The most valuable feature is the daily incremental site backup."

"One-Pass (Archive) DataBase backup (Online Backup and Granular level restore), VM backup and restore.""The solution has the fastest backup and better licensing.""Well documented SQL views and customizable reports, together with scripts and workflows provides ability to automate processes and ensure proper controls are in place.""This is a very stable product.""The solution includes the best compatibility metrics for integration and they are managed by Google support.""The user interface is very easy to navigate.""IntelliSnap and file system backups are valuable features.""It integrates redundant storage and preserves jams in a storage area, providing up to 70% compression rate."

Cons
"It requires a lot of time to connect the snapshot, identify the files, and restore a single file manually.""There could be a centralized dashboard with a reporting feature notifying us of daily backup status.""They should work on their visual capabilities.""If AWS could also add some hybrid cloud features to AWS Backup, that would be a significant improvement. For example, currently, AWS Backup only backs up to the S3 and Amazon Cloud, and you can only restore from the Amazon Cloud only. However, some people have hybrid environments. They have some workloads on-premises and some workloads in the cloud.""This backup tool does the full backup of the entire snapshot server. I would like to have the option to not do the full server backup.""One improvement I would like to see in AWS Backup is the implementation of incremental backups.""The service disconnects a lot.""The solution's reporting features and restore features can be improved."

More AWS Backup Cons →

"Compared to Rubrik, MongoDB Data Protector, and NetBackup, Commvault is better. The licensing team was quite tricky recently because they stopped the unlimited files for that license. Commvault made a bank of 500GB only, a node-based license can take it, which is disappointing. Reporting needs to be more granular. Also, there should be a showback of data being backed up, and the backup cost to share the cost internally with the department.""It would be a bit unfair to say that it's complex, due to the fact that it supports so many different workloads, however, if there's anything that is a bit of a shortcoming, then it's the fact that there's a bit of complexity involved when dealing with the product.""They need to improve when it comes to large, video file archiving. They're good, but they have not met my expectations as a customer in this area.""Bare-metal restore needs some work. It's not intuitive and seems to have been an afterthought.""The product does not provide an option to save a copy of data on-premises.""The only problem is that some of what we snap most of is the VMs. We found about 10% of the VMs that we can't snap because they're too interactive. It actually causes the application to crash.""If I were to ask them to work on something, it would be the fidelity of the alerts that occur. They should tell me if it is a real event or not. It is easy for it to identify that something hit it but give me more information. They can build AI into the engine so that I get better output from an alert to tell me if I should really be interested in that or not.""The solution requires improvement with its connection and bandwidth."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "We don't use a lot of space, only approximately 900 GB, so the price is reasonable. For standing, it's okay. We normally do a payment to SSML, and they are the ones who pay over there. It is around $100 monthly."
  • "There is a lot of flexibility with the services and pricing. The price is reasonable when compared to other products. This is very good for us."
  • "There are no licensing costs for AWS Backup. You pay only for the amount of backup storage you use and then the data transferred between regions. Overall AWS Backup is priced reasonably."
  • "Our customers pay a monthly AWS fee that includes the AWS Backup service."
  • "The solution's price is reasonable."
  • "Price-wise, I rate the solution a six out of ten. One only has to pay for the storage cost of AWS solutions, which is the standard cost provided by AWS."
  • "Its price is much cheaper than some vendors but more expensive than others."
  • "The pricing is decent."

  • "If budget allows using the per socket license and not the agent based with per GB counter for Dedup is the way to go."
  • "There is now a subscription based licence option that, depending on your environment, could offer a more efficient method to licence the solution if you are OPEX cost driven rather than CAPEX."
  • "New licensing is easy and affordable."
  • "Licensing could be better explained. Sometimes, it's unclear what features are available in different licensing models."
  • "Compared to other competitors and vendors the pricing is fair."
  • "In my experience, compared to solutions like Veritas and Veeam, while they do have their technical pluses and minuses, Commvault can save you on average forty percent initially, and then twenty to twenty-five percent annually."
  • "The price could perhaps be lower as well."
  • "Our cost is around $20,000 per month. The previous year, it was around $30,000 per month. It now costs less because Commvault changed the licensing type for providers."
