We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"The high availability of the product is the most valuable feature.""One of the best features is the support, which is excellent.""What I really like about this program, is that it is easy to use and easy to configurate.""The duplication algorithm allows us to get a lot more use out of less storage. We're running a five terabyte array right now and we're running probably about 30 terabytes on it. So the duplication rate is pretty phenomenal, without a cost to performance. It still runs pretty smoothly.""Pure FlashArray X NVMe will quickly overcome all the hurdles you face, including network and latency issues.""The latency is good.""The most valuable features of this solution are its ease of use and performance.""The initial setup was extremely simple and straightforward."

"What is most valuable about the Dell EMC SC Series system was its reliability.""The interface is easy to use which makes the product user-friendly.""A valuable feature is the performance of the auto-tiering. It will move hot data up to your fastest Tier 1 or move your slow data down. Data progression is what it's called. With the auto-tiering you can have multiple tiers, you can have your Tier 1 be either spinning or flash, all the way down to 7.2K. It will change the RAID on the fly so your writes come in at RAID 10. After they sit for a while, they get converted to RAID 5, then they'll cool off and move down the tiers. Your performance is kept going, while the cold data is moved to your slow, non-performance tiers.""The solution is stable; we've had no problems at all.""The user interface is good, I would rate it a nine out of ten.""With auto-tiering, it's easier to understand than most arrays, knowing that all of your writes go to the tier that you specify, with easy-to-create storage profiles.""The setup and installation is much simpler now, because Dell has standardized the configure process.""We replicate between SAN to SAN for a lot of features and supportability. It also helps us when we want to upgrade to a newer SC Series or move the data from one data center to another."

"We have been working with the solution for around a year and so far it has shown itself to be stable.""The solution is very easy to set up.""Fewer features is not necessarily a negative as it leads to simpler operation and lower price.""The most valuable features of the Lenovo ThinkSystem DE Series are the dual controllers, available installation documentation, and the option of multiple host bus adapter interfaces.""Lenovo ThinkSystem DE Series is simple to use""This solution is good for virtualization and meets the need for CPU and RAM requirements.""The solution is very easy to troubleshoot. It's one of the most valuable features. It also doesn't take long to deploy and normally it comes with a three-year warranty.""Lenovo ThinkSystem DE Series is quite an elementary box, no frills. It does not have all the functionality of the DM but it is acceptable, it does its task. It integrates pretty well."

Cons
"In the future, I would like to see integration with enterprise backup systems.""There is room for improvement in the pricing of the product.""There is room for improvement in catering to midrange storage needs, especially for customers seeking Enterprise-class features.""The UI for this solution needs to be improved.""We need better data deduplication.""Efficiency improvements would always be welcome, but I'm not sure if they could get more efficient.""We would like to see more visibility into garbage collection and CPU performance in the GUI.""It is on the expensive side."

More Pure FlashArray X NVMe Cons →

"This solution could be improved if overall performance was improved and operated with a higher speed and supported a higher volume of RAM.""I don't think the solution is very scalable.""While the price is competitive, in the next release it would be better if they could reduce the fees.""While the scalability is good, there are certain limitations.""In some customer cases, customers experienced more performance or latency.""The administration and support (on the way that they delivered) was a little bit slow.""Overall, I'd like to see more synergy between Dell EMC's higher-tier platforms and their mid-tier platforms. What I have said, constantly, to my partners at Dell EMC is that the clear articulation of the path is really important to us. In that vein, what I'd also like to see is, with the migration strategy that's built into this product, a lot more attention paid to Dell's - in particular - legacy platforms and how we get from some of our legacy EMC platforms onto this platform with a straight-through migration and scaling strategy, not host-based migrations and not piecemeal... Dell EMC would do well to focus more on my ability to skip a generation, rather than having me take individual hops because I can't greenfield my way into a software-defined data center fast enough. This journey of multiple hops is not helpful.""I would like to see an integrated key manager in the controllers. Currently, it's an external product. It would be nice to have the option of having a built-in key for self-encrypting drive features."

More Dell SC Series Cons →

"Improvements can be made to the product's performance.""It would be useful to have structured solutions replicated to other sites.""There could be a snapshot feature in the solution.""The solution could be more scalable, although it suits our present needs.""Its performance could be faster.""Usually, when a part fails, we have to replace it and it takes a while. It would be better if the part could be available locally here in Kenya so we don't have to wait so long to repair the solution.""The difficult part comes when dealing with the host. You have to enable multi-pathing and other aspects that are needed for proper configuration. I don't know if there is room for a more hyper-conversion structure to work with, but this would be easier.""In the next release, I would like to see support for Hyper-converged infrastructure."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "With Pure Storage, we would like to continue seeing price reductions with flash storage. I don't think we're any different than anybody else when we continue to look to the industry for price reductions of both NVMe and traditional SSD storage. We would like to see these prices continue to decline and erode, even displacing large spinning disks."
  • "We pay approximately $50,000 USD per year in licensing fees."
  • "With VMware, we pay $300,000 annually."
  • "Our licensing fees are $500,000+ USD."
  • "As far as the licensing costs, everything is included in the license."
  • "They can tout the functionality and cutting edge technology that they have, but that's where the price tag comes in. The cost is high, but I think as they grow their business and get more customers that it will probably go down a little bit."
  • "Its price could be better. It is not too expensive, but it is the high-end cost. It is kind of a Rolls-Royce. You pay a lot, but you get a lot out of it. So, the price pressure on the way down would be great, but at the end of the day, if you need to do the work, you just pay for it."
  • "The licensing is on a yearly basis."

  • "It is one of the most cost effective systems for us. We have been able to run it longer than most, getting the most benefit and money out of it."
  • "We have found the solution to be affordable."
  • "It has a good price point and offers some value-added enterprise features."
  • "Compared to other solutions out there, it's affordable."
  • "The scalability seems a bit more expensive than even buying a brand new one so far. That has been kind of a drawback."
