Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"Helps in managing capacity planning, services performance, and tuning database performance and optimizing queries.""UEM can be used for user impact analysis and troubleshooting.""We can see which step in a transaction is causing latency, right down to the particular Java class""Our customers are now able to control their infrastructure with a single tool, and can easily check the connections with all components.""We have identified and solved "mystery" issues that we have experienced for a long time, including sporadic latency issues on storage volumes and SQL databases not scaling properly when under certain loads.""It helps us get to the resolution quicker, and potentially the root cause, and at least understand what is happening for future identification.""Dynatrace has reduced our total headcount in operations and the mean time to detect and resolve problems. As a result, those challenging offline times are much shorter, if not non-existent, because of this solution.""The main benefit is being able to pinpoint problems."

"It offers the capability to view live log ingestion directly from the console which means you can seamlessly manage live log data ingestion alongside accessing and analyzing older data from the past."

Cons
"The business use case is that most people want to see how many orders came in. I'd like to be able to get data out of JavaScript tags, and capture more data. I think that would make it much more useful, rather than using Google Analytics. Instead, have one tool to capture all the stack, that would make it easy.""There were a number of marketing promises that were made, which we do not see it in the tool yet. ""I do not like the performance of the UI. It is really slow.""There are some bugs in it. Sometimes things get hung just for second, and you have to refresh something. Also, they aren't necessarily intuitive, but to me, they're just going to get better over time.""We are happy with the server monitoring, but we feel like the application monitoring should be improved.""It needs certain UI changes to make going back to certain Windows easier. Certain windows open up in a different category with different set values and throw you off if you are not used to it.""There is still a certain amount of technical skills needed to be able to understand what you are seeing on it. You also need a large amount of technical or infrastructure skills to understand how and where to install it.""Experience with relationship/account manager has been really poor, it does not seem to be the firm's priority to support their customers."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "Pricing is based on the number of servers monitored, so for big applications, it is a bit expensive."
  • "Licensing is a bit complicated for Dynatrace, and pricing is dependent on how much your organization invests."
  • "We found an issue within the first week of ownership that has been costing us more than the entire license cost."
  • "Product pricing can seem a little over complex, however this is minor and does not detract from the benefits of the solution."
  • "Getting the first agents installed, getting information, and coverage in a initial set of systems can be done in hours and with a low cost entry point."
  • "Price (of the product) is a major concern for all the clients I work with."
  • "The licensing model is confusing in solutioning clients for the number of hosts needed to deploy."
  • "The product is superior to others, but it comes with a price tag that is often difficult to position back to clients."
