We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"It allows you to use ANY consumer or enterprise HDDs and SSDs, and that's a really great thing!""The management and monitoring have been very easy since the solution's dashboard is very simple and user-friendly.""The management interface on the software is very simple. It is insanely simple compared to most SANs. The interface is also powerful when used to complete tasks that an IT administrator needs to complete.""As the client had acquired another company some distance away, they were concerned about having a single SAN in one location or the other. StarWind vSAN allowed us to keep a copy of the data local to each site without asking the client to pay for two SANs in addition to the two new servers they needed.""When we need additional storage but want to keep the size of the SANs manageable, the StarWind Virtual SAN has allowed me to do everything needed.""The solution provides great performance for the price it is listed with.""The main benefit is that StarWind is almost maintenance-free.""It provided the much-needed HA on an extremely low budget."

"HPE Nimble Storage dHCI's user interface is very easy to work with.""The product has cut down a lot of service tickets. Earlier, people complained about slowness.""Simply being able to move objects and the duplication feature have been quite effective.""The solution works well.""Very good in-line compression.""We have the ability to increase the storage without any additional costs.""Artificial intelligence is built into the product. If there's a failure, HP support will proactively call the client about the issue.""It is easier to manage compared to the other vendors."

"The VX machines are scalable.""Lenovo ThinkAgile VX Series' deployment is easy. We are a tier-one platinum partner who is into multiple implementations.""Installation is straightforward because it's a vSAN. It only took one or two days.""We find the setup quite straightforward and very easy."

Cons
"There is a general lack of documentation, especially up-to-date documentation to get started.""This product would benefit from having automated alerting functionality.""One point for improvement is to increase the performance capabilities of the Windows-based executable as compared to its Linux Controller Virtual Machine (CVM) equivalent.""Regular updates to the software are required, and subtle design changes would be welcome.""You have to do a "full" sync on write-back cache disks instead of a quick sync if there is an issue.""Android app for monitoring and receiving push notifications as alarms or monitoring I/O from any mobile device could be a good feature and nice to have as we are not always on our desk.""I would definitely like to see quite a bit more on the monitoring side of things.""Performance when in storage-separate configuration needs to be improved."

"They should improve just the support.""The product does not support file services.""The initial setup is a little bit complicated.""I rate Nimble one out of 10 for ease of setup. Setting up Nimble Storage was a nightmare. It took us three months to deal with all the kinks and bugs. We had two people from HPE assisting us and two from our team.""The solution could improve by providing better file-level restoration and DVX system options.""This year 2022, we have the possibility to include new kinds of storage with a high disk availability, such as Alletra 6000 and Alletra 9000. Those are the new storage available. If we would like to improve the quality and the capability and the high availability of these products, we can choose between different costs. This is another benefit from this HPE Nimble Storage dHCI solution of hyper-converged.""I'm not sure if there are features lacking.""HPE Nimble Storage dHCI's website does not open properly or work consistently."

More HPE Alletra dHCI Cons →

"With the VX machines, the clients often confuse the hardware itself with the services and resources. VMs are configured according to resources - memory, hard disk capacity, and network. These resources, including memory and processor, are actually shared on the VX Series. So, if the server's processor is underpowered or unreliable for the VMs, many of the VMs will encounter issues. Ideally, the physical server configuration should align more closely with the needs of the virtual servers.""The user management could be a bit better. It's something they could improve upon in future releases.""Support could be better.""Lenovo ThinkAgile VX Series needs to improve its stability. Its resolution should be faster."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "The setup cost is very low. The pricing is great."
  • "We are happy with the price."
  • "The license is reusable. We can always rebuild it and apply the license. Then, boom, we get new servers, apply the license, and we're back up and running."
  • "The pricing is fine for the work that it does."
  • "When we did all the analysis for StarWind, it was approximately 20 percent less than any of the other solutions that we looked at."
  • "The scalability limitation for us is its licensing. At some point in the fairly near future, we will probably have to upgrade our license so we can store eight terabytes instead of four. We are currently at four terabytes, but we're starting to knock on the door of that capacity."
  • "The pricing is excellent. It will run on anything. You don't have to buy a $100,000 server, with hardware you don't need. You just pay for the license and you're good to go."
  • "The licensing is a bit weird. If you license the standard version of StarWind, it allows you four terabytes. Then, they have a pro version, but with the pro version, the only difference is it doubles the terabytes to eight."

  • "I think it's priced right and it's extremely intelligent."
  • "The customers have found the solution to be expensive. However, when compared to the competition the price is reasonable."
  • "The cost of the licensing is reasonable."
  • "The price of HPE Nimble Storage dHCI is expensive."
  • "HPE Nimble Storage dHCI is much cheaper than the competition and has value proposition. Customers can see an ROI in three months. There are no additional costs, and VMware licenses can be reutilized."
  • "With the features that HPE Nimble Storage dHCI provides, I cannot say its pricing is more."
  • "The product is very affordable."
  • "I would rate the licensing model a three out of ten, where one is extremely expensive, and ten is cheap."
  • More HPE Alletra dHCI Pricing and Cost Advice →

  • "You need to pay a license for additional features. If we need to monitor hardware for the automatic alert notification, we need to pay them."
  • "The tool's pricing is competitive."
  • "There is room for improvement in the licensing structure, maybe. Regarding sizing the resources, sometimes it's difficult to calculate/compute them based on the client's requirements."
