We performed a comparison between HPE Nimble Storage and HPE Primera based on our users’ reviews in four categories. After reading all of the collected data, you can find our conclusion below.
Comparison Results: The two solutions had a similar user rating in terms of ease of deployment. HPE Primera had a better user rating regarding pricing and service and support. In terms of features, HPE Nimble Storage users felt there were stability and scalability issues, while HPE Primera users felt the reporting console needed improvements and the user interface wasn’t user-friendly.
"The high availability of the product is the most valuable feature."
"The most valuable features of Pure FlashArray X NVMe are its superior performance compared to other flash tiers, as well as its ease of use, with an intuitive user interface that is simple to deploy and use."
"The most valuable features of this solution are its ease of use and performance."
"FlashArray has some fresh efficiency features. I've never seen a storage solution with a compression rating this high before. It's at least 4-to-1 on Oracle databases. It's the best flash storage for Oracle."
"Pure has signature security technology, which cannot be deleted, even if you are an administrator."
"One of the best features is the support, which is excellent."
"Technical support has been helpful and responsive."
"The Pure1 component is most valuable at this point in time when comparing it with EMC. Pure1 is where you can have your diagnostics in the cloud, so you can look at things from your mobile phone."
"Performance, reliability, InfoSight, the ability to upgrade the O/S on the SAN without taking it down, and cost."
"I have found the convergence rate and deduplication the most valuable features."
"The fact that they offer free training is awesome. There are not very many vendors that do that."
"The most valuable feature is the NVMe flash storage."
"The most valuable feature is data mirroring."
"There are a lot of redundancies in all the right areas, so it is pretty stable."
"Even if one control fails, it automatically turns on the other controller and everything moves from one to the second instantaneously without any issues."
"This product is very easy to set up."
"The most valuable feature is an all-flash system, which means the data access speed is amazing while the latency is almost nothing, and it can deliver IOPS up to 16,000."
"HPE Primera is an all-flash storage product that's very stable and has a higher storage capacity. It can also give better ROI compared to NetApp."
"It is a stable and scalable solution with quick and efficient storage capability."
"We sold Primera to a public university, and they're happy with it. They have been using it for about four months with no significant problems."
"In my opinion, HPE is making good progress and moving ahead with InfoSight, which is predictive analytics and artificial intelligence."
"The product is stable."
"The performance is very good."
"The greatest advantage is the support when we encounter incidents, as HPE's support is highly responsive."
"We've seen that when we create a POD in synchronous mode, it increases the latency."
"I would like to see replication and DR features in the next release of this solution."
"It's more multi-tenant functionality in their Pure1 manage portal that is lacking."
"Our use cases require more multi-tenant capabilities and additional VLAN interfaces for separating different customers. We currently use it to provide storage, sometimes shared storage, to different customers, but it is less flexible in comparison to a dedicated solution."
"Right now, the box itself is just strictly working as a backend storage system. It would be fantastic if we could access it directly like a NAS device through network access or SIS drives. I think they have an interface, but I am not sure how good it is. If we could address a box directly on the network without having to go through a server, it would be great. The replication schemas could be improved. We are not using replication on the storage level right now. We use a different type of replication. If their replication would be as good as the one that we have, I would probably run the replication schema because it might be faster, but I don't know that for a fact. So, I cannot say that they have good replication. All I can say is that they need to inform us better."
"There is room for improvement in the pricing of the product."
"In the future, I would like to see integration with enterprise backup systems."
"It is on the expensive side."
"When we’re setting up the solution, making options available regarding the replication tool mechanism would be ideal."
"I want to see the full integration with OneView. I know they have started it, but I haven't had a chance to look at and evaluate it."
"I would like to have more administrative rights, for example, root-level administrative rights to the underlying OS of the storage array. We want more access to the kind of underlying infrastructure of the storage array rather than relying on support. However, most companies are looking to have more managed solutions which is the opposite direction of what I want."
"I'd also like to see them incorporate tools that let me get granular with the VMs. I want to see an individual VM, I want to Snapshot and recover an individual VM."
"The solution requires a higher availability."
"We face challenges with hardware delivery."
"I would like to see native network attached storage (NAS) functionality. Our customers are looking for NAS, and Nimble can't give it to them."
"There are customers who want to do some different things with the Microsoft Resilient File System. There are some customers who want to do different types of connectivity. I do not know if I would call that an improvement, necessarily, because if you want that, you should get a different product."
"I would like to see improved training offered with HPE Primera."
"We face challenges with false alarms, particularly daily alerts related to replication link breaks. I'm not happy with the customer service and support."
"The cost of HPE Primera could be lower."
"One of the drawbacks of the model we purchased is that it is not running NVMe drives. Even though they say that it is NVMe-ready, it is still on the SSD drives. The model that we purchased has only eight hard drives, and only the ones on the top could work on NVMe. The rest of them are still on the SSD. Its competitors, such as EMC and Pure Storage, are moving or have already moved to NVMe. HPE should improve this solution for NVMe. HPE should also improve IOs in this solution. IOs in HPE are weaker than Hitachi and Pure Storage."
"The IOPS and throughput could be better. That's the only drawback compared to other vendors."
"The price of the product is an area of concern. From an improvement perspective, the solution should be made more affordable in terms of price."
"We have not had a good experience with support from HPE Primera. They can improve."
"Increasing the IOPS and throughput values would make the product even better. Improving the scalability of HPE Primera is also recommended."
