We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"We found the setup process to be okay since they do offer a troubleshooting guide.""The most valuable features are that it's very secure and provides audit trails for our documents.""I like the cloud and its integrability.""The solution is very developed and we are not taking full advantage of its functionalities.""The retention module is one of the most valuable features. Whatever we scan onto the system can be identified and we are notified when the records are due to be disposed.""OnBase is a remarkable tool. It is a well-done product. Hyland has a lot of experience in building it and looking for new things for clients in terms of functionalities. It has amazing stability, and it can grow horizontally and vertically. It is built for growth. Their technical support is also quite good and available throughout the year."

Cons
"The look and feel could be better. The integration with the user could be better. It could also be more user-friendly.""We are struggling with duplicates and would like to have OCR functionality when using this solution.""An area for improvement would be the training - getting our people up to speed on how to use it required more training than we expected due to the complexity of the solution.""For user experience, they would have to do more with the interface. It is not easy to work with and is a little messy. It is getting better, but it is not yet good enough. Other products are comparatively doing better in terms of the user interface. I have been hearing about Box, which is very easy to use and learn for the users. OnBase has to work on this aspect. It should have BPM capabilities. We compete with tools that provide the BPM feature and support those standards. They can do better in terms of the pricing model. It is a really expensive tool in Latin America. They should have different prices for different regions.""The dashboards do have some room for improvement as compared to the other vendors which are there in the market.""We need to troubleshoot why our reports didn't get downloaded in a day. There is a workflow feature which powerful but also complicated."

More Hyland OnBase Cons →

"The areas of this solution that need improvement are the relationships between lists, cross-site web parts, and page-building tools.""Allow more functionalities for the on-premise version. Do not force the move of content to a non-private cloud.""The product must provide more automation.""SharePoint sometimes cannot handle the amount of co-editing that we do.""The product does not perform 100% when used outside of a Microsoft based browser, Chrome, Firefox, etc.""Improve the user-friendliness.""When you are trying to migrate from a different platform to SharePoint for file storage, the upload utility should be more flexible, taking more files and then updating you on the upload status of the files you are trying to transfer into SharePoint.""We do sell Hyland OnBase, which is probably a competitor to SharePoint and does a lot more. In our own organization, we haven't had a need for it, but certainly, for our customers, we are finding that to be a better fit. In terms of the technical reasons for that, I'm not involved much on that side, so I can't give specifics, but there is certainly room for them to improve or add on certain features that clearly are not available in SharePoint, but they are available in Hyland OnBase."

  • "The tool's price is high."

At Mediacurrent we often get requests to compare Drupal to other platforms used for intranet sites and social business platforms (like https://dev.twitter.com/ for example). This is often referred to as “Social Business Software”, which has grown in popularity in recent years. I decided to do a round-up of a couple of the more well known platforms and compare their products to Drupal. In this roundup we will be comparing Jive, Sharepoint and Drupal Commons. Drupal Commons is a popular distribution created by Acquia to compete with some of these other proprietary platforms. There are many other options out there, commercial and otherwise, to compare with Drupal but I want to focus on Jive and Sharepoint for a couple of reasons. I chose Jive because it is one of the leading competitors in this space in respect to market share. Next, I chose Sharepoint because I have some history with Sharepoint. This experience dates back to when I built www.adhe.edu with Sharepoint 2007 a few years ago. I subsequently wrote this blog entry about my experience shortly after joining Mediacurrent. This roundup will also act as a refresher for those who read my original “Drupal vs. Sharepoint” blog. Yammer, which was recently bought by Microsoft and is the tool we currently use for office communication will also get some mentions throughout this article. As I went through and tested each of these tools I used three main criteria in my evaluation Cost Ability to Customize Overall features… Read more →
