We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"The performance of the All-Flash System is very good. There is more enhanced performance and data production in the solution, which I appreciate.""The pricing is reasonable.""Stability-wise, this solution is fine.""The GUI is very easy and performance is also good.""The most valuable feature of the solution is compression.""The price-performance ratio is most valuable.""It's very easy to manage.""The most valuable feature of the solution is SCM (Storage Class Memory), which has the lowest latency value in the storage industry."

"The initial setup is pretty straightforward.""The stability is excellent.""The IBM System Storage DS5000 Series can be integrated into various platforms such as IBM, Intel, Linux, and others. It provides flexibility in integration wherever storage is required.""IBM System Storage DS5000 series enhances clients' data handling capabilities through improved security, fast systems, and added value features.""The solution is reliable.""The most valuable feature is compression.""The most valuable aspects of the DS5000 Series are its high availability (almost six nines), stability, cost-effectiveness, and the unique IBM FlashCore modules, which other competitors lack. Cons
"The marketing could be improved.""If you want to expand, you cannot expand the disc enclosure. You have to buy a total individual node. Sometimes, this is difficult because we are just looking for capacity and not a node.""The ease of installation should be improved. We had issues with the configuration model.""We use some open-source tools for monitoring, such as Grafana and it should be bundled along with IBM FlashSystem.""The security features can be improved such that the encryption does not affect performance in any way.""The data reduction pool feature sucks and is not recommended for use with heavy workloads.""The price is very costly.""The solution is quite expensive. That's one of the downsides to using it."

"IBM talks about integration when we talk about Safeguarded Copy. It integrates with QRadar, but it seems as though IBM still is too separate, that is, the way IBM is measured on software and hardware.""The solution's integration with other tools could be improved.""Improving software installation and licensing retrieval would make using IBM System Storage DS5000 series easier for customers.""The stability could be improved.""IBM System Storage DS5000 is expensive when compared to other vendors.""The solution is not flexible enough.""The price of the product is an area of concern where improvements are required.""The amount of storage could be increased."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "Pricing can be considered as per market competition."
  • "The total storage capacity vs price is still quite high for the IBM Flash Array."
  • "It pays to go back and get the best price you can from your supplier. The first offer is not always at the best discount."
  • "Regarding licensing make sure you add at least three years software maintenance from IBM at the beginning, because you will not be able to download firmware updates or any fixes/patches without this."
  • "IBM V7000 has a new license and price structure which provides intuitive licensing based on the functions customers wish to enable and use the most."
  • "The pricing has been very competitive for the last few years. IBM got to the point where they changed the pricing model and we feel very comfortable with the pricing. It's very competitive. Over the last two years, IBM has been coming up with all kinds of interesting promos, especially for the SMB systems. That makes it very competitive price-wise and in terms of performance..."
  • "For a yearly license, it is about $100,000. There are no additional costs. The entire system is included."
  • "The integration is already included in the license cost of IBM FlashSystem. The integration is very easy. You get the IBM storage core with all software, firmware, and upgrades. EMC provides the features in the box, but they are not free for customers. There is a licensing cost for features. We have yearly licensing, but IBM has also provided a new option where you pay as you go. They provide a big box, and I pay, for example, for 10 terabytes. If I exceed 10 terabytes, IBM will charge for the new storage after 10 terabytes. It is a good opportunity in the market for using the storage as a cloud and paying as you go."

  • "Its price is fair. IBM is quite fair in price when you compare it with others. We also use Hitachi internally, and Hitachi is always a little bit more expensive. NetApp is also a bit more expensive. So, IBM has good positioning in terms of price."
  • "This product is priced well. The ratio between cost and productivity is very high and we're happy with it."
  • "It is a competitively priced solution. The cost can vary depending on whether it is purchased from the hardware or the software departments."
  • "Compared to other vendors, I think it's expensive."
  • "It's an expensive solution."
  • "The basic functionalities of the product are provided within the normal license, but users can opt for some optional features from IBM's licensing model."

    Overview

IBM FlashSystem products are enterprise computer data storage systems that store data on flash memory chips. Unlike storage systems that use standard solid-state drives, IBM FlashSystem products incorporate custom hardware based on technology from the 2012 acquisition of Texas Memory Systems. This hardware provides performance, reliability, and efficiency benefits versus competitive offerings.

DS5000 storage systems are equally adept at supporting transactional applications such as databases and online transaction processing (OLTP), throughput-intensive applications such as high-performance computing (HPC) and rich media, and concurrent workloads for consolidation and virtualization. DS5000 series storage systems can support service level agreements (SLAs) for the most common operating systems, including Microsoft Windows, UNIX, Linux and Apple Macintosh.
With drive-level encryption, DS5000 series storage systems support affordable data security with no performance penalty. The DS5000 storage system’s multiple replication options, drive-level encryption, and persistent cache backup can help ensure that any data in cache is captured and safe in the event of a power outage.
