We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"It is also a product that has been maturing for a long time. This is good because customers need reliability in their enterprise initiatives.""The scalability of IBM Spectrum Protect is good.""Once it is completed properly, it is low maintenance. Most of the functions do not require much deliberation. It is all the blueprints and technologies laid out, and it is straight forward.""The backup is very good. In other backup systems, you need a lot of storage to gain the same backup policy.""The ability to use S3 Data Store as a repository.""Because of the flexible parameters, everything can be fine-tuned to the customers’ needs in their environment.""The fact that we can take the backup straight onto tape is the most valuable feature.""by backing up only the changed data, we average around 75TB per night. If we had to do full backups, even occasionally, we would not be able to complete the backup within 12 hours, or we would have to make a large investment to fit a full backup within the 12 hour window."

"Oracle Data Guard has a nice feature called the DataGuard snapshot to open the solution in the read-write mode and make some changes to the database.""We use Data Guard for online replication from data center, to data center for high availability. This is the most important feature.""Another valuable feature is the possibility of backing up the database from the standby database instead of the primary database, to avoid backup process overhead in the primary system.""We have not encountered any major challenges with replication. We were able to achieve near-real-time replication. Also, with the switchover failover, we were not getting any technical issues. It's a pretty stable product.""With Data Guard, Oracle guarantees zero data loss, providing peace of mind for organizations relying on their data for critical operations.""Technical support is very good. If at any time we write a ticket, we get the appropriate answer on time.""The most important feature is that if I want to test the database at the disaster recovery site, I can take a snapshot, test it, and then revert it back to the original state without needing to restore the complete database from the primary data center to the disaster recovery.""The most valuable aspect for me is undoubtedly the failover capability and the assurance of data safety provided by Oracle Data Guard."

Cons
"Better integration with other tools and databases is needed.""This solution does not have good support for virtualization and a hyper-converged environment.""We should be talking about the capacity of the tape drives. That's the only problem.""Generally, the implementation of virtualization could be improved. The workflow service and so on are not working properly.""The solution is evolving, so it has to be evolved to fit all new types of software requirements too.""High availability (HA) is a scalability challenge.""We need everything cloud. Strong support for cloud services. S3 connectivity, which is mandatory for us in the future along with this integration of Spectrum Copy Data Management or Spectrum Protect services together with these Spectrum Protect Plus functionalities, e.g., hardware, snapshots, and Copy Data Management. They should come together in one solution.""The only thing that I would like to have a little more of is insight in reporting. I find that Spectrum Protect needs a lot of monitoring, and I have to actually log into the servers."

More IBM Spectrum Protect Cons →

"Oracle could be improved by the ability to manage it on the cloud. This on-premises version is secure and reliable, but I'm sure that they will soon provide a cloud solution that will be even better. In one to two years, we will probably move to the cloud—we have already moved to the cloud with Microsoft Exchange, but our databases are still on-premises. I would prefer managing a cloud version of Oracle.""One thing that can be improved is the GUI. It would be good to have a very nice GUI to easily configure and administer, providing different presentations to the database administrator. The feature that can be included is the integration with third-party monitoring systems, that is, monitoring systems from other vendors, not only from Oracle.""Sometimes, the technical support team takes time to respond.""The IP implementation and maintenance are a little bit hard to manage across Oracle solutions, including Oracle Data Guard.""For every standby server you have, you must pay a licensing fee, which is the main disadvantage.""The database administration needs improvement. With Oracle, we have a lot of features for administrating data, but it might be too many. It needs to be simplified. It should be automated. Looking at Enterprise Manager, there are too many KPIs in place.""For Italian medium-sized companies, the main challenge lies in the cost associated with licenses.""The only difficult part is the cost factor, licensing. Another area of improvement is support."
