We performed a comparison between IBM SPSS Statistics and KNIME based on real PeerSpot user reviews.
Find out in this report how the two Data Mining solutions compare in terms of features, pricing, service and support, easy of deployment, and ROI."The solution has numerous valuable features. We particularly like custom tabs. It's very useful. We end up analyzing a lot of software data, so features related to custom tabs are really helpful."
"One feature I found very valuable was the analysis of variance (ANOVA)."
"It has the ability to easily change any variable in our research."
"in terms of the simplicity, I think the SPSS basic can handle it."
"The learning curve to using this product is not steep. The program is appropriate for those who do not have a lot of background in programming, yet have to perform basic statistical analysis."
"The solution is very comprehensive, especially compared to Minitabs, which is considered more for manufacturing. However, whatever data you want to analyze can be handled with SPSS."
"Since we are using the software as a statistical tool, I would say the best aspects of it are the regression and segmentation capabilities. That said, I've used it for all sorts of things."
"The features that I have found most valuable are the Bayesian statistics and descriptive statistics."
"All of the features related to the ETL are fantastic. That includes the connectors to other programs, databases, and the meta node function."
"KNIME is easy to learn."
"I would rate the stability of KNIME a ten out of ten."
"It also has very good fundamental machine learning. It has decision trees, linear regression, and neural nets. It has a lot of text mining facilities as well. It's fairly fully-featured."
"The visual workflow tools for custom and complex tasks always beat raw coding languages with the agility, speed to deliver, and ease of subsequent changes."
"I've never had any problems with stability."
"I was able to apply basic algorithms through just dragging and dropping."
"The most valuable features of KNIME are its ability to convert your sub-workflow into a node. For example, the workflow has many individual native nodes that can be converted into a single node. This representation has simplified my workflow to a great extent. I can present my workflow in a very compact way."
"There is a learning curve; it's not very steep, but there is one."
"The statistics should be more self-explanatory with detailed automated reports."
"The product should provide more ways to import data and export results that are user-friendly for high-level executives."
"The reports could be better."
"It could allow adding color to data models to make them easier to interpret."
"Most of the package will give you the fixed value, or the p-value, without an explanation as to whether it it significant or not. Some beginners might need not just the results, but also some explanation for them."
"One of the areas that should be similar to Minitabs is the use of blogs. The Minitabs blog helps users understand the tools and gives lots of practical examples. Following the SPSS manual is cumbersome. It's a good, exhaustive manual, but it's not practical to use. With Minitabs, you can go to the blogs and find specific articles written about various components and it's very helpful. Without blogs, we find SPSS more complicated."
"The solution needs more planning tools and capabilities."
"The data visualization part is the area most in need of improvement."
"It's difficult to provide input on the improvement area because it's more of self-learning. However, there are times when I am not able to do certain things. I don't know if it's because the solution doesn't allow me or if it's because of the lack of knowledge."
"The pricing needs improvement."
"They could add more detailed examples of the functionality of every node, how it works and how we can use it, to make things easier at the beginning."
"I would like it to have data visualitation capabilities. Today I'm still creating my own data visualtions tools to present my reports."
"KNIME is not scalable."
"The license is quite expensive for us."
"There should be better documentation and the steps should be easier."
