We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"It is a scalable product.""The features that I have found most valuable are, first of all, that it comes as part of this whole bundle of Informatica tools. So if you've been implementing Informatica MDM across a business, you'd often find it comes with it. It's been thrown in as a sweetener. The adoption of it is often the challenge because as part of your MDM project, governance is seen as something beyond the MDM and is often restrictive. So this tool actually, for the first time, when you talk to data governance teams, gives a holistic view of what a data governance team can do with this tool.""You can extract and transfer your data as you wish it to be consumed later.""It's helpful in integration, and it can be moved around in SharePoint. So, from the SharePoint View, data integration and reporting, it help a lot in that way.""The dictionary, the search, and the ratings are without a doubt the most beneficial components of this solution.""The most valuable feature of Informatica Axon is features, interfaces, and data mapping. It represents clusters nicely.""Axon does one interesting thing that I don't think other tools do as well. It lets you rate data and incorporates Informatica's data quality feature into it. There are little indications and graphics that show you how good the data quality is, and you can drill into it to see where potential issues lie.""The best thing about Informatica Axon is that it integrates with the Electronic Data Capture and the Axon system."

"The most significant value lies in its seamless integration into the Azure ecosystem, automating various processes and reducing operational burdens.""I don't know if I've gotten much value out of Purview personally, but our security team loves it. Our biggest concern is leakage or theft of our data because we have a lot of PII and stuff that has not been released. We like the insights Purview provides and the way the solution can track and manage things. I'd say that was probably their favorite piece of it so far. From everything the security team has told me, the policy management and DLP features are working spectacularly.""The custom classifications are one of the most valuable features.""The availability of pre-designed policies tailored to specific geolocations and customer requirements is a valuable feature.""The user interface is highly intuitive and user-friendly.""From my experience and customer feedback, one of the most valuable features of Microsoft Purview is ease of use, especially for content hosted within Microsoft 365 and Azure. I also like that the pricing model for the solution is reasonable.""It is critical that Purview delivers data protection across multi-cloud and multi-platform environments. That is the number one reason that people are adopting hybrid and best-of-the-breed approaches. Especially in banking, it is critical because people want to protect, govern, and secure their data. This is one of the first conversations that happens with security and the architecture group on the client side.""The documentation is very exhaustive. Anyone can go ahead and try different use cases."

Cons
"There are some limitations with Informatica Axon when one tries to connect or integrate it with Jira.""In terms of what could be improved, they need to create a rules repository. Business rules for the attributes that you have, keeping them in that central repository, and governance of them is something which Axon is lacking a bit. The Informatica Data Quality tool actually caters to that, so that's probably why they have not built that up in the Axon, but it is definitely something that can be built in to this product, as well.""There are also some technical issues sometimes with integrations because clients have a lot of different types of data sources.""The main issue probably has nothing to do with end users, but installation can definitely be simplified.""There is room for improvement in the support. The response time could be faster.""Informatica Axon needs to improve its interface.""The GUI needs to be a little more user-friendly and appealing.""Some functionalities can be a challenge in the cloud."

More Informatica Axon Cons →

"There are differences when looking at an incident in the M365 portal versus Purview, and the main one is the advanced hunting. In the M365 portal, you can write KQL queries and fetch data. If that was available in Purview, it would be very good.""The current event-based retention management is very poor.""Overcoming certain control issues would significantly enhance our overall satisfaction.""The overall cost of deploying this solution could be better. It seems that middle and small-sized organizations are not completely happy with deploying this solution in terms of the cost. It would be good if they concentrate on the cost part.""It could reduce pricing to encourage usage.""There are some limitations with regard to the lineage of data from different parts of the system.""I would like to have complete video documentation for training.""The technical support has room for improvement."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "You can purchase licenses for this solution at different intervals. For example, annually or every three years. They recently changed their terms for licensing and now it is more flexible."
  • "Pricing is determined by the number of licensed users as well as the number of Core CPUs."
  • "A yearly subscription is paid based on the number of people using the solution. Price-wise, it falls under the medium range since it is neither very costly nor too cheap."
  • "The price is neither too high nor too low."
  • "Informatica Axon is a costly solution. I rate Informatica Axon a four out of ten for its pricing."
  • "Informatica Axon is expensive."
  • "The licensing price of the product depends on the organization's requirements."
  • "We saw an ROI. We have been able to get data from various sources and consolidate it into a data lake, which is helping us in data analytics."
  • More Informatica Axon Pricing and Cost Advice →

  • "The pricing is moderate. It's not too expensive, but it's not the most competitive."
  • "Microsoft Purview is the best option I have encountered when it comes to price. Maybe some of my information is outdated, but Microsoft offered it so that you could use it almost without paying."
  • "There is some competition out there, but the other solutions are quite expensive. They are enterprise tools that are a bit more mature but the license costs $100,000 for some of them. Purview is pay-per-use and a lot of companies are interested in that."
  • "Aside from the complexity of the pricing model, the price itself is realistic. Features like AI components and automatic classification require additional licenses. Still, anyone can start using Purview with a basic E3 license if they're using Microsoft 365 and grow with additional licenses as needed. Overall, we're satisfied with the price."
  • "Its pricing is good in terms of the features that they are providing, but there are many competitors in the market who can easily provide you with similar services at a lesser cost."
  • "The categorization within the licensing could be improved. There are a lot of solutions within Microsoft Purview. If the licensing could be a bit clearer and the solutions could be better categorized according to function and across multiple environments, that would be excellent. The licensing is very confusing."
  • "Price-wise, I think it's very generous and accessible to not just enterprises but small to medium-sized companies as well. I think it's very fair in terms of how they break apart the storage and the actual computing, and that makes it very accessible. So, that is a very big plus for Purview."
  • "Some people find the tier licensing system complicated, but it offers a lot of value for money if we use the features."

    Overview

    What is Informatica Axon?

Informatica Axon is a data governance (DG) tool. Axon Data Governance is powerfully integrated with Informatica Data Quality and Informatica Enterprise Data Catalog to seamlessly deliver a robust collaborative data governance program to business and IT leaders. Business users can use this solution to easily create all of their key protocols, access all relevant data throughout the enterprise, and can see the quality of that data in real time. Users can characterize and discover data privacy and protection use cases, including compliance with such regulations as the European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), Basel Committee of Banking Supervision (BSBS 239), Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), and more.

    Informatica Axon Key Features

      • Democratize Data Access: Users’ governance teams develop already approved lists of governed data and can make them available to certain groups, teams, or individuals in the Axon Data Marketplace. The end user has a friendly graphic dashboard that will display all grouped data as well as some context concerning the available data. The dashboard will show who owns the data and whether they are able to access the data, and if not, will display the reasons why access will not be granted. If access is approved, users can access it immediately.

      • Analyze Data: Users have full transparency concerning the quality of their data and its fitness for the prescribed purpose. The integration of Axon Data Governance with Informatica Data Quality guarantees organizations are using trusted data. Additionally, users can capture cost and revenue to get a clear view of the effectiveness of the data governance program.

      • Improve Success: The solution lets users minimize complexities and potential risks across the business enterprise. Organizations can transition to becoming more cost-effective by identifying duplication and eliminating waste, enabling the delivery of more efficient projects with a lower failure rate. Organizations are able to allocate resources elsewhere and achieve higher output and productivity.

    Informatica Axon Key Benefits

      • Improved Compliance: Users are easily able to report and prove consistent regulatory compliance standard adherence worldwide.

      • Trusted Data: Axon Data Governance ensures users a single source of truth throughout the entire organization. Users can be assured that all integral data-driven ventures, such as regulatory compliance, appropriate analytics, and customer experience, are secure and that every result will end with the appropriate desired result.

      • Streamline Processes: End users are able to access, find, and use data easily to immediately achieve the desired result without having to wait for hours and sometimes days or weeks for IT to approve access. Users can trust the data is accurate, trusted, and regulatory compliant.

    Reviews from Real Users:

A Consulting Associate at a consultancy says, “Axon does one interesting thing that I don't think other tools do as well. It lets you rate data and incorporates Informatica's data quality feature into it. There are little indications and graphics that show you how good the data quality is, and you can drill into it to see where potential issues lie. Users can comment on the data, tag people, and ask questions or rate the data one to five based on their experience, which helps eliminate data silos. You have all your information right there, and it's easier for future users to know which data to draw from.”

A Data Architect at a retailer writes, “Everyone in the organization can view what is actually happening and what they could benefit from it. That's how collaborative data governance comes into the picture with Axon. It has got nice integrated quality dashboards as well.”

The new Microsoft Purview portal offers an enhanced governance experience, serving as a unified platform for managing and governing data across various sources, including Azure, Microsoft 365, on-premises, and multicloud environments. Designed to streamline governance, compliance, risk, and security efforts, the new portal provides a user-friendly interface and unlocks advanced features like live view and preset scans. Existing users of Microsoft Purview can upgrade to this enhanced experience, gaining access to improved user interface, enhanced capabilities, and consolidated management of data assets. Additionally, the upgrade sets the stage for future developments, including account consolidation and fine-grained access control.
