We performed a comparison between Palo Alto Networks K2-Series and Palo Alto Networks NG Firewalls based on real PeerSpot user reviews.
Find out in this report how the two Firewalls solutions compare in terms of features, pricing, service and support, easy of deployment, and ROI."Their proxy-based inspection is responsive and secure."
"Fortinet FortiGate's reliability is valuable."
"The UTM feature is quite good. FortiAP is easy to deploy because both Fortigate and FortiAP are under the same brand. Otherwise, you need to do more work on the configuration."
"The secure web gateway module and the application control module are valuable. HA operations are very easy."
"I like several features that this product has, such as antivirus and internet navigation inspection. It is also simple to use."
"The tool is a nice product and easy to handle. The software's user interface is also good. You can easily implement remote access in the solution."
"Our project needs to link two sides through the internet. One of these was in Cairo and the other in another city. We used FortiGate as the integrating solution between the two locations, i.e. the Fortinet 30E & 100E."
"I am "headache free" that I don't have to categorize all the websites and that security has been pre categorized by the people, and that the services are getting updated. At least one part of my problem is over."
"K2-Series' best features include its scalability, which is the best on the market."
"The IPS system is the best in the field."
"Palo Alto has an approach that makes the configuration easier not only for the customers but also for the IT help for the customers."
"As long as the solution is kept updated, it's pretty stable."
"I like the tool's WildFire feature."
"I have found the threat profile feature valuable."
"The scalability of the product is quite high."
"Palo Alto's App-ID is what differentiates it from other competitors."
"The application control portion of the solution is its most valuable aspect."
"The technology's very good. We have had a lot of good experience with this solution."
"I love the Policy Optimizer feature. I am also completely happy with its stability."
"Good functionality and features."
"Its flexibility is the most valuable."
"The machine learning in the core of the firewalls, for inline, real-time attack prevention, is very important to us. With the malware and ransomware threats that are out there, to keep abreast of and ahead of those types of attacks, it's important for our devices to be able to use AI to distinguish when there is malicious traffic or abnormal traffic within our environment, and then notify us."
"We like the fact that this product can provide multiple layers of protection depending on our clients requirements, and can be configured to whatever level of protection and the specific protocols that they want."
"When we put it on the border, it was blocking everything that we were getting ahead of time, and we weren't getting any hits. This includes URL filtering, spam prevention, and anti-virus."
"The license renewal process, annual renewal price, and the web application firewall features should be improved."
"This product could be improved with Active directory integration and better handling in IPsec and GRE Tunnels."
"The command line is complicated, and the interface could be better."
"We had a minor problem where there was a major system upgrade on the hardware platfrom and the Mac client was not available as soon as it might have been. The PC client was available immediately, but we had to wait a month or so, before there was a mac client. I was slightly irritated that it was not ready on time, but it was eventually resolved."
"The feature which gives us a lot of pain is ASIC architecture."
"Fortinet FortiGate is a stable solution. However, my issue is the performance only. When I use all the profiles, this affects the performance. From the beginning, I should have had a better sizing of the box."
"The process of configuring firewall rules appears excessively complex."
"One area for improvement is the performance on the bandwidth demands for smaller devices, as well as better web filtering."
"The licensing cost is a typical complaint with many clients. The solution is expensive."
"When it comes to renewing the solution, they tend to try to jack up the pricing."
"It would be really helpful to have dashboards that provide information on IOC blockings such as where and how many. It will also be good to know how many hashing files have been reported. It would also be nice to have easy access to this information. Otherwise, it's a painful, manual task."
"The tool needs to improve integration with more products from other vendors. I would like the product to add threat intelligence features as well."
"There are a lot of bugs in this solution."
"Palo Alto doesn't have extended visibility to the end point in their firewalls."
"I'd like to see more data protection on the system."
"The ease of management and configuration should be improved."
"The support could be improved."
"Palo Alto Networks NG Firewalls don't provide a unified platform that natively integrates all security capabilities. It's missing some features for geofencing and understanding locations."
"I believe it would be beneficial if the solution could integrate with Google Chrome, especially for students who use Chromebooks. However, as far as I know, the solution currently does not support Google Chrome."
"The functionalities are limited."
"Palo Alto should improve their support. It's sometimes difficult to get the right technician or engineer to fix the problem as soon as possible."
"In the last three years at least, they have been lagging behind their competitors. The main issue is the support that we can get... You have to wait for them to get back to you and sometimes it's random. And the biggest problem I have is that you have to wait hours on the line when you're calling them to get a hold of the next available engineer."
"The solution is very expensive. There are cheaper options on the market."
"Palo Alto Networks NG Firewalls work slowly for vulnerability management. Its performance could be faster."

In the best tradition of these questions, Feature-wise both are quite similar, but each has things it's better at, it kind of depends what you value most.
PA is good at app control, web filtering and such like, they have always been top of the pile there. The GUI is very good, and their product is very user-focused.
Fortinet is good for scalability and predictable high throughput (ASICs in the hardware), and useful things like authentication flexibility, CLI config (if you have any networking/Cisco people, they always seem to prefer CLI over GUI) and have better OT features, maybe relevant to your manufacturing use?
Fortinet seem to have a broader integration offering with their security fabric than PA do, plus they can do Fortinet-based wifi, switching, etc. Depends if you are prepared to go all-in with a single vendor.
