We performed a comparison between Snowflake and Teradata based on our users’ reviews in five categories. After reading all of the collected data, you can find our conclusion below.
Comparison Results: Both solutions received high marks from users. Snowflake comes out on top in this comparison. It is a powerful and reliable product that is easy to deploy. In addition, its users feel that it is reasonably priced.
"Snowflake is an enormously useful platform. The Snowpipe feature is valuable because it allows us to load terabytes and petabytes of data into the data mart at a very low cost."
"The pricing is reasonable and matches the rest of the market."
"It's ultra-fast at handling queries, which is what we find very convenient."
"A user-friendly and reliable solution."
"The product's most important feature is unloading data to S3."
"They separate compute and storage. You can scale storage independently of the computer, or you can scale computing independently of storage. If you need to buy more computer parts you can add new virtual warehouses in Snowflake. Similarly, if you need more storage, you take more storage. It's most scalable in the database essentially; typically you don't have this scalability independence on-premises."
"The most valuable feature is the snapshot database. In one second, you can just take a snapshot of the database for test purposes."
"Its performance is a big advantage. When you run a query, its performance is very good. The inbound and outbound share features are also very useful for sharing a particular database. By using these features, you can allow others to access the Snowflake database and query it, which is another advantage of this solution. It has good security, and we can easily integrate it. We can connect it with multiple source systems."
"Cuts time to process huge amounts of data with efficient analytical queries."
"The most valuable feature of Teradata is the quick processing of large data."
"The functionality of the solution is excellent."
"The flexibility in design is very good."
"I've never had any issues with scalability."
"Teradata can be deployed on-premise, on the cloud, or in a virtual machine, which means customers can move without having to create their architecture all over again."
"Teradata solutions help organizations reduce IT, operations, and maintenance costs; enhance on-time delivery of products and services."
"Teradata's most valuable feature is that it's easy to use."
"More data governance and access control features would be a welcome addition."
"In future releases, it can also support full unstructured data."
"If we can have a feature where the results can be moved to different tabs, so that I can compare the results with earlier queries before applying the changes, it would be great."
"There could be better ELT tools that are appropriate for Snowflake. We decided on Matillion and it seemed to be the only one. There need to be better choices, it would be great if Snowflake provided an ELT solution that people could use. Additionally, if there was a pure cloud-based ELT tool it would be useful."
"Snowflake can improve its machine learning and AI capabilities."
"If they could bring in some tools for data integration, it would be really great."
"Their UiPath, the workspace area, needs some work."
"Snowflake could improve if they had an Operational Data Store(ODS) space."
"Teradata's UI could be improved."
"Query language and its functionality are rather limited, compared to Oracle or even SQL Server. However, it is possible to perform any kind of logic in it (though some workarounds may be required)."
"Teradata could improve by being less complicated. There are some aspects that are not available on the Unix server and a Unix system is required to access some data, such as in case of an emergency."
"It needs a teaching web site with more training on third-party tools used for BI."
"Apart from Control-M, it would be nice if it could integrate with other tools."
"Data synchronization to the DR site."
"The SQL Assistant is very basic. This tool can be improved for usability."
"Teradata is an expensive tool. Like, if you're already using Microsoft products like Windows, they'll market all their products together. And with the rise of cloud technologies, companies will adopt solutions that offer them some privileges or facilities. Similar to how SAP does it in the market, so do Microsoft and other companies. Even Oracle and other such tools are quite commonly seen compared to Teradata's competitors in everyday solutions."
