Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"Having an enterprise service catalog and being able to automate various parts of our infrastructure are among the most important components.""vRA has enabled us to derive value from the cloud faster. It is five to six times faster than traditional solutions.""The extensibility of it and the customization of a lot of the Blueprints, that you can customize, and the community as a whole. There's a ton of community-generated Blueprints that might be (helpful) to set up a design for your automation needs, that you can use as a base and go on from there and make changes to it.""The extensibility of the solution when it comes to writing your own ABX actions is a valuable feature. You can write it in PowerShell, JavaScript, or Python, which is great.""It provides visibility into the VM space.""With the advent of the automation, we've been able to give DevOps the ability to spin up environments, give them lease times, and then have it automatically reclaim the environment.""Instead of deploying a VM from a template and going through the process of configuring that VM, with vRA we're able to click once and it does everything: grabs an IP, joins it to the domain, loads whatever configuration agents are needed. It does all of that without manual intervention.""It's also absolutely easy and intuitive. It uses the same basic layout as the rest of the product suite so it's really easy to navigate, find your way around between the tabs and the areas."

"The pricing is rather competitive right now.""The most valuable thing I have found is the cost saving recommendations""The solution is good for cloud cost management.""This solution is fast and very easy to understand, even if you are not a technician.""The product is easy to use in terms of monitoring all the environments. It works for multiple clouds.""We are able to create an internal price of the product that we can then sell to clients. We get the cost plan at a good discount and then resell it with a mark up to our enterprise-level clients. This flexibility in pricing is one of the solution's best features.""We use dashboards quite heavily, but one of the features that have really stood out is some of the policies we've created to alert us of particular situations.""It's stable. For report presentation, it's been fast."

Cons
"in general, it took us a long time to get it off the ground. We had a lot of issues upfront and we determined that we just needed to scrap it. I think we scrapped it two or three times before we actually got it built the way we wanted, and we're still not where we need to be. We have had downtime. There have been some issues, but we're also two iterations behind on version.""Multitenancy management is a little bit difficult to do, so it is an area that can be improved.""With the workflow aspect, which has manual intervention, a policy needs to be approved by somebody. There could be better management of that piece with better templates. It is like a workflow engine, but does not have enough example templates to do certain things. A lot of people waste a lot of time trying to figure out the same thing, and everybody is trying to figure out the same thing, e.g., how to make a MySQL cluster in a Windows environment?""They should make it a little bit more dynamic, a little bit easier to deal with large-scale AD deployments. They need to make it a little more enterprise-ready. That is the one thing that kills us.""We would like them to improve the automation part. This is an upcoming area that we would like to focus on.""Our current use cases aren't very complex, but as our environment grows, we're seeing a greater need for automation. We're considering expanding our automation efforts, especially since other competitive products are starting to offer similar features.""I don't find it to be entirely user-friendly. There are a lot of complicated menus within menus within menus. Things move around from version to version.""I'm not wanting any particular feature; but there should be cost reductions. VMware comes at a high cost, and that's why we are in the process of transitioning to a more affordable alternative."

More VMware Aria Automation Cons →

"The performance and accuracy of Cloud Health need to be improved.""If you are working with the OS you need help and other connectors to get more information.""The Perspectives feature could be better.""I would like to see better integration from CloudHealth to create easier setup and implementation.""CloudHealth needs to start building out Turbonomics-types of features that help the customers who are using CloudHealth really understand everything down to the server level, the virtual machine level.""They should provide information or tools to tune the cloud resources according to the environment size.""The solution doesn't offer the best functionality, unfortunately. Some features just simply aren't on offer. The solution needs to offer more product milestones.""It would be helpful to have a mobile version or a tablet version, especially for people who are outside of the office."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "From the customer perspective, the value was worth it."
  • "I'm very interested in the integration with Puppet. However, my organization doesn't have the funding for something like Puppet right now. If VMware would integrate that feature set (Puppet) into vRA. That would be very awesome."
  • "Better pricing is always handy, but I feel it's at the right price point."
  • "We have seen significant ROI. We used to have physical servers, it took 90 days to get a server, order it, buy it, and get it in. We have it down to 10 minutes, building a server with virtualization, and now that's too slow. So, we let the customer do it at their speed. Therefore, it is pretty much up in a couple of minutes and they have a server."
  • "The solution has helped to increase infrastructure, agility, speed, and provisioning in the time to market."
  • "There is confusion between licensing levels. There are three different licensed versions of vRealize Automation, and there are different things which can happen in each of them."
  • "vRealize automation really should be a front door to the whole VMware suite of products."
  • "As far as value is concerned, it has been essential to our environment. We have been able to deploy VMs quickly and the developers have their own sandbox, so they can spin up and destroy VMs at their own will."
  • More VMware Aria Automation Pricing and Cost Advice →

  • "The licensing fees depend on how big the company is. If you are a larger company then you have a better contract with a better price. The price is different for a small company."
  • "CloudHealth has a subscription-based model."
  • "The pricing is competitive and while other products are good they are considerably more expensive."
  • "I give the cost of the solution an eight out of ten."
  • "There could be flexibility in pricing for the product."
