Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"The predictive survey is the most valuable feature. I use it quite often.""The heat maps are quite good, and some features are easy to use.""I would like to rate the product as eight of ten.""It allows us to prepare more real designs. Later, we validate them with actual surveys.""Clear and easy to use maps.""Customer service is great.""The benefit is with the ease of use of the software, I am able to show the customer, "Here is what your wireless coverage looks like." It is set up in a fashion that non-technical people can understand it.""We use the solution for Wi-Fi and networks."

"Aruba is an industry leader. The hardware is on par, and its performance is also on par with anybody else. The Aruba brand really only focuses on wireless, so they're not competing their R&D for switching data center products and cloud security. They're really focused on that and their underlying key pieces. They provide a role-based authentication that is native to the controller. A lot of other systems don't do that. They won't provide you the ability to basically have everybody join the network, regardless of whether or not they share the same network space, the SSID, or the wireless LAN. You can segment it down to a specific user role based on any kind of attributes that you like. That's their differentiator. If you need per user, per device, or per port segmentation, you can get that with Aruba. There isn't another vendor who does it.""The functionality is very high and we can properly meet the clients' requirements.""This is the second time I've implemented and installed this solution and I think it is outstanding. The support is excellent and so is the hardware. We don't need much support because nothing really goes wrong.""The main features of Aruba Wireless in my country is its popularity, long hardware warranty when compared to other solutions, and it integrates well with our network access control solution.""The solution provides a clear path to instant wireless.""Role assignment: Each user is assigned a different role based on the radius attributes returned by ClearPass.""It's been running for the past three years with no default configuration.""With Aruba Instant, we can use the access points independently, allowing us to position them in many places."

Cons
"When you conduct an active survey and then want to use it for design work, it's actually not very useful.""Less time consumed doing the real surveys.""The throughput should be more advanced in the future. They need to add more versions of WiFi than just one.""Printouts are JPEG printouts. The AirMagnet software is proprietary. I can't send my customers a file, because it is AirMagnet file, even for building projects. I can only send JPEGs or screenshots of heat maps.""AirMagnet Survey doesn't cover certain devices in the system.""But it's definitely a more expensive solution than other ones.""The surveying features are in need of improvement, along with general usability.""I would say some of our newer techs that are going out to job sites can be a little bit intimidated by the interface."

More AirMagnet Survey Cons →

"The upgrades tend to be buggy and better testing is needed before they are released.""To enhance the system, more work on integration would be beneficial.""Improvements to the GUI, such as being able to search in the Mobility Master, would be nice.""Aruba’s poor performance and random upgrade issues caused too much time consuming maintenance and troubleshooting.""An area of this product that could use improvement would be the troubleshooting. At times I had to engage Aruba Support which ran some pretty complicated troubleshooting commands. I would not have been able to do with existing CLI documentation.""Aruba Wireless has room to improve the connection from one AP to another.""The solution needs to add features and enhance security.""There were some settings which were confusing and unlabeled when trying to use the online help with the newer firmware."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "The moment we began needing more of the vendor's support, the cost became very high; we switched to another solution."
  • "For technical support, you need an annual license, but it is not worth it."
  • "The pricing needs improvement."
  • "This product is very expensive."
  • "There is an annual cost of the solution. There are some additional charges, such as support and maintenance."
  • "The tool's pricing is medium."

  • "Partner had been using Cisco. They switched to Aruba, because of price and functionality, also with an option for adding a SW, like AirWave, Meridian, ClearPass, and Central."
  • "Pricing is very competitive."
  • "Pricing support has always been cost-effective."
  • "Licensing is a one time purchase (only the cloud license has to be renewed, which is worth trying out)."
  • "We will be buying the ClearPass solution, which will be pricey. However, in the trial version, it has even more tools to manage a busy network."
  • "There is so much licensing, you literally pay for every solution, add-on, or cool feature. Compared to others, we were in the middle with pricing, but as you start to invest more into features it will get very pricey."
  • "Trial different solutions and compare pricing to how well they perform, their stability, how easy it is to maintain, etc."
  • "Licencing can be surprising and needs improvement. Look into all features, what you need versus what you want, and know that nothing comes without some kind of license."
