We performed a comparison between Appian and Oracle Application Express (APEX) based on real PeerSpot user reviews.
Find out in this report how the two Rapid Application Development Software solutions compare in terms of features, pricing, service and support, easy of deployment, and ROI."Rapid development with low-code makes it easier to quickly get apps implemented and the time to break-even and ROI is much faster."
"Process Modeling enables creation of business process workflows. You can create complex business workflows in a visual manner, and it is also easy to debug/monitor."
"The most valuable features of Appian are workflow management and the ease with which you can build the UI."
"Form building capabilities and well thought out process modelling are key points to this product."
"With low-code, we don't need a lot of coding, and then from the plumbing perspective, there is a complete CI/CD pipeline that exists within Appian that can be leveraged for open deployment."
"The initial setup is easy."
"What I found most valuable in Appian is that it lets you drill down on multiple things through the structure of the reporting and UI side. It's also low-code, yet it results in quick deliverables."
"Low code development: Code can be developed pretty quickly which leads to less turnaround time for automation of business processes."
"What's most valuable in Oracle Application Express (APEX) is its secure coding functionality, and the solution also has good features."
"In our experience with Apex, we find that minimizing reliance on HTML and JavaScript is preferable, especially considering our background as seasoned programmers adept in PL/SQL. Incorporating HTML and JavaScript can pose challenges due to potential compatibility issues when updates are made to JavaScript. We also make use of JAPER report integration for generating reports, a practice integral to our reporting procedures."
"One of the most valuable features is the ability to build very fast data-driven UIs."
"One standout feature of Oracle APEX is its seamless integration with backend procedures, allowing for quick updates without changing the front-end interface."
"I like that Oracle Application Express (APEX) is powerful and attractive, allowing my organization to modernize forms within two months. I also found its PWA feature very powerful because you can produce substantial mobile applications."
"You can customize the solution to create a console where only business users can access and download files if they want to extract the data."
"Oracle APEX improved our organization by making it possible for us to implement agile project development."
"I like the way that it automatically goes into the spreadsheets and the users can deal with it."
"Lacks business rules management as part of the solution."
"One room for improvement is the ease of UI UX development, like in OutSystems and Mendix."
"The tool itself is pretty good, but the main area that we struggled with was the backend. The frontend development is really good, but the backend modeling can be streamlined a little bit. There are good integrations, but tying them through the data layer and then up into the frontend could be improved a little bit. It does read/write on the data source, and you can configure it to just write or just read, but there is a little bit of work involved."
"The graphical user interface could be easier to use. It should be simplified."
"The ability of the interface to load automatic data is not great."
"Form creation and SAIL proprietary language still basically require programming. The claim a BA type can do everything is hogwash."
"The reporting is not as good as in similar products. They could also improve the dashboards."
"Even though the company has made great improvements in online documentation, featuring rich material which includes case studies of real-life use cases, the material could definitely be better in quality and coverage of use cases."
"There is not a lot of Wiki help or in Google, but there is some."
"Oracle Application Express would be improved if you could use it on a mobile platform."
"The migration process is difficult in Oracle Application Express."
"Connections to the application pages are not handled well and at times more than one user can be accessing an application with the same ID."
"Maybe there are other technologies that offer what APEX cannot."
"Visual Builder and APEX should meld in one product."
"Oracle should implement vertical and horizontal data segmentation in APEX's security framework, so Dev teams don't need to do any heavy lifting in the APEX screens. This is a common issue in enterprise apps. It would be nice to seamlessly integrate Git repositories into the development process since the current solution can result in overlapping work or an eventual overwrite. The provided example apps are great, but they could benefit from some added documentation in the "explanation screens"."
"I would like to see easier integration into active directory authentication. Also, maybe integration of JavaScript frameworks would resolve some issues."
