"The most valuable features are the special plugins such as SAP HANA databases, Microsoft SQL, and various types of virtualization.""Bacula is pretty stable.""It can be used in virtually any environment we have onsite.""It brought many advantages - such as the learning curve being very light.""It is easy to scale Bacula Enterprise even if your system is growing tremendously in data and servers.""It works great and it provides you with several standard tools to restore your backup, even after a big failure.""The solution has extensive documentation and a very active community."

"Our customers who have faced ransomware attacks were able to recover their data in less than one day without any stress. Veritas is ransomware resilient and because of its implementation, it is not dependent on the operating system to work.""The most valuable feature of cloud integration is the ability to send data outside of your location. This can be achieved by integrating cloud tier options or other object storage solutions.""We were evaluating other products and getting confused between Commvault and Veritas NetBackup. The one reason that we started with Veritas NetBackup is the pricing of the license. There's no other reason from a technical perspective or even operation or capability of the two software. The main reason we chose Veritas NetBackup was that in our use case it is more cost-effective.""I like that it's enterprise-capable. It can handle multiple operating systems. It can handle multiple database types. It can handle a lot of different backup use cases. It's flexible.""Veritas NetBackup provides good backup performance, and I can mount the snapshot without an installer.""Management interface was simple to use once understood.""It is very easy to back up and recover files compared to other products.""It provides us with the versatility to back up everything we require which eliminates the need for a secondary backup solution."

Cons
"We would like to see an improvement in the functionality of the GUI.""The initial setup could be a bit easier.""We are looking for a unique interface that can rule both enterprise and open source editions. Such a thing does not yet exist.""Easier setup and configuration, perhaps including a GUI, would be an improvement.""Bacula needs a graphical user interface because, for administrators, the command-line interface is okay, but for the average user it is not very easy.""A more user-friendly interface (GUI) can be developed.""It could improve its interface or offer a specific screen for the manager of the company."

More Bacula Enterprise Cons →

"It gets a lot of new features, but improvements in basic functionality are often sacrificed for a shiny new bullet point to put on sales presentations.""GUI needs to be more user-friendly.""The pricing is a bit of a concern. If could be lower.""NetBackup is expensive and should be cheaper. That is why we are moving on to another solution.""NetBackup is a very old product, and it is based on Linux, which is not user-friendly.""NetBackup's reporting features are a little poor.""It is a very expensive solution. They should have a different scheme for selling it. They should also make it easy for us to switch from Solaris to Linux. We are having some trouble in migrating our actual catalog from Solaris to Linux.""Improvements can be made to the service by providing better and more competitive ratios on data backups. The functionality for backups is there with Veritas, but I would like to see them optimize and enhance this feature more."

  • "We have a perpetual license."
  • More Bacula Enterprise Pricing and Cost Advice →

  • "Licensing was very expensive and did not scale well if needed to move between license models."
  • "Smaller virtualized environments will want to stick to a traditional licensing model if possible. It will likely be cheaper, but it is a pain to manage all the individual licenses for each client."
  • "So far I can only say that the license structure could be looked at to be aligned as either capacity-based or traditional."
  • "If you have a complex environment with dozens of different servers and apps, I recommend you look for TB licensing."
  • "The software and license are very expensive."
  • "Pricing is pretty costly as compared to the other products but worth investing for the long term and high ROI."
  • "Acceptable if you need to implement it for larger environments, e.g. over 1000 clients. For smaller setups it might be too expensive."
  • "The licensing model is cost-prohibitive as you scale out."

    Reviews from Real Users

Mahdi B., Solution Architect and IT Consultant at Merdasco - Rayan Merdas Data Processing, says, “Veritas integrates well with the cloud, all databases, all operating systems, all hardware, and all software. Veritas also has solid malware and ransomware protection features. From time to time, we face a new kind of attack, and Veritas has always proven to be the best protection solution for some of my customers. Our customers who have faced ransomware attacks were able to recover their data in less than one day without any stress. Veritas is ransomware resilient and because of its implementation, it is not dependent on the operating system to work. Most of the functions of the Veritas software are isolated from the operating system and it's not dependent on the operating systems involved. This is very important. When some of our operating systems are infected by a virus, Veritas still works perfectly and protects our data. This feature is very well implemented in Veritas NetBackup.”

A PeerSpot user who is a General Manager at a comms service provider relates, “Veritas enterprise has many agents who perform the backup, whether it is a consistent backup or recorded backup. The solution has everything from the snapshot to the multiple database agents.”

Mir-Ali, Infrastructure Manager - Oracle SCM at a financial services firm, shares, “It covers all kinds of different architectures. Plus, it's very user-friendly and it is very reliable. Reliability is the most important thing because once the backup is done, if it is successful, then we're sure that it was successful and we will be able to restore it.”
