We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"Easy to understand ways of creating stubs.""We had a number of back-end services that were not available during testing times. What this had allowed us to do is get our early life testing done while those services are not available.""In the case of the virtualization of TCP/IP protocols for third-party terminal insurance, there was a device terminal, which was interacting with the application via the TCP/IP protocol. Most of the tools don't support that, but we were able to achieve it using Broadcom Service Virtualization.""The most valuable features are the recording and creating of virtual services.""It is easy to use, has a faster time to market, and provides flexibility.""CA Service Virtualization has helped us advance the development cycle when third-party interfaces are not available to us.""The most valuable features include the capability to use other program languages such as PLSQR, JAVA, .NET.""The ability to do parallel development and testing reduces our costs for duplicating environments, improving the productivity of our developers, and bringing products faster to market."

"You can push transactions through to live, and you can intercept some transactions and return them back with mocked data."

Cons
"It is not a stable solution.""One major feature I would like to see is on the user administration part. Right now, anybody can access any of the folders and any of the projects.""I would like to have more flexibility towards the mainframe virtualization and also in JDBC virtualization.""They can always work on usability and making simple things simple to do. This is true of every product that deals with complexity.""From a reporting perspective I think we would like to have a more user-friendly approach.""Needs some additional lightweight, portable elements.""The cost is an area that needs improvement. There are a couple of other tools which provide support for performance testing with the base version itself, but Broadcom needs a separate component to support virtualization for performance testing. This is a costly component.""UI should be more user friendly: better usability, more testing oriented."

    Overview

CA Service Virtualization acts as a catalyst for DevOps by simulating constrained or unavailable systems across the software development lifecycle (SDLC). This allows developers, testers and performance teams to work in parallel to accelerate app delivery, as well as to “shift-left” the app testing to improve application quality. CA Service Virtualization was previously known as LISA, the product from the ITKO acquisition.

Tosca Testsuite’s Orchestrated Service Virtualization (OSV) allows enterprises to simulate the behavior of any service needed in your application. It also allows enterprises to create business scenarios that are able to simulate complex business processes even before the completion of your application. OSV offers the independence necessary to avoid costly delays and enables earlier testing within the product cycle.
