We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"Restoring is very fast. In testing, I did a restore for a single item from a mailbox. Within a minute, I had the message back in my mailbox. So, it didn't take hours or days. Obviously, there will be a limit. If we suddenly go into DR and have to restore five terabytes of emails for people, then it will take a couple of days, which would be acceptable. For general usage, where we have to do the odd restore, we have never had issues. It happens within minutes.""It's easy to configure multiple jobs and media agent locations for each server. We do offsite backups for all of our servers, but we also do onsite hourly backups of them. That has benefited us several times when we had an incident and didn't want to roll back a server an entire day.""We recommend this product for people who are running the Oracle Virtualization Manager.""It's very user-friendly. It supports a wide range of workloads. It's quite easy to use, it's very powerful and it's scalable.""Commvault can actually come in and assist you with aspects of the implementation - and they are quite helpful.""The product has the best features for scaling up and administering all the solutions from a single platform.""It is much more scalable and flexible than everything else in the market.""There are many valuable features of Commvault HyperScale X giving many possibilities to complete jobs."

"What I find valuable about Dell PowerProtect IDPA is its stability and strong performance.""It backs up our Windows systems and our Linux systems and everything.""The solution is strong.""The solution's most valuable features are networker and continuous data protection.""Dell PowerProtect is stable and scalable.""The product is integrated with Huawei software and its backup and recovery time is very fast.""We use it for complete backup and recovery. We have multiple clients and have created multiple large virtual capabilities and zoning backlogs.""It is very simple to perform an upgrade of the system and the environment."

Cons
"The product is a bit complex.""Could be easier to implement.""They need to integrate configuration screens or videos (free training courses, webinars, demos) so that engineers with little experience can fully exploit the features that are offered or managed within the license that was acquired, and thus have better quality and completely satisfactory experience.""Command Center definitely gives us a complete view of our data. But finding some of the granular, very small items that we sometimes have to find, such as auxiliary copies for tapes, I still find that it's easier to navigate and, sometimes, only possible to find them using the CommCell tool.""Sometimes, we have a performance issue with the backup speed. So, that has to be rectified and improved.""I just wanted to compare the features, which are there in EMC NetWorker, which are not available in Commvault. We have things using Networker.""Commvault HyperScale X is more expensive for hybrid environments than traditional solutions.""The customer support is not good."

More Commvault Cloud Cons →

"The only thing that could be improved would be the complexity of the initial setup.""The solution's implementation was very complicated and could be improved.""The two-factor authentication is missing from Dell products.""The solution should be easier to use.""Dell PowerProtect DP needs to include more features and improve backup for a continual base.""I would like to see integration with Dell EMC's Cloud Tier.""We cannot add IDPA to DPC, and each IP has a DP Central, which cannot monitor other IDPAs.""The price could be lowered slightly, to make it more competitive."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "If budget allows using the per socket license and not the agent based with per GB counter for Dedup is the way to go."
  • "There is now a subscription based licence option that, depending on your environment, could offer a more efficient method to licence the solution if you are OPEX cost driven rather than CAPEX."
  • "New licensing is easy and affordable."
  • "Licensing could be better explained. Sometimes, it's unclear what features are available in different licensing models."
  • "Compared to other competitors and vendors the pricing is fair."
  • "In my experience, compared to solutions like Veritas and Veeam, while they do have their technical pluses and minuses, Commvault can save you on average forty percent initially, and then twenty to twenty-five percent annually."
  • "The price could perhaps be lower as well."
  • "Our cost is around $20,000 per month. The previous year, it was around $30,000 per month. It now costs less because Commvault changed the licensing type for providers."

  • "The licensing is billed on a monthly basis. Dell is bundled so that when you order IDPA, you get everything together with the license."
  • "I would rate the solution's pricing a seven out of ten."
  • "It is a cost-effective solution."
  • "We have a perpetual license. It is a capacity-based license."
  • "Dell PowerProtect DP (IDPA) has a yearly subscription fee."
