We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"Has improved our organization by allowing us to obtain fast, detailed information about the behavior of our products and to supply this to the customer, enabling us to work together without the need for special programming knowledge.""The most valuable features for us are the GUI, the easy identification of objects, and folder structure creation.""The stop automation is a great feature.""We have used it for the web and Windows-based applications. It is very productive in terms of execution.""Being able to automate different applications makes day-to-day activities a lot easier.""With certainty, the best feature of UFT is its compatibility with so many products, tools and technologies. It is a challenge currently to find a single tool on the market besides UFT that will successfully work for so many projects and environments. For example, UFT supports GUI testing of Oracle, PeopleSoft, PowerBuilder, SAP (v7.20), Siebel, Stingray, Terminal Emulator, Putty, and Windows Objects (particularly Dialog Boxes). Furthermore, UFT has the built-in functionality to import Excel input files.""The interface is fine and there is nothing else to add in terms of enhancement.""It's simple to set up."

"Visual Studio is an exemplary integrated development environment that stands out due to its exceptional features. It allows for the seamless selection of the appropriate programming language for the specific development tasks at hand. This facilitates a swift and effortless transition between languages, providing a highly efficient development experience.""Code testing is the most valuable feature of this solution for developing software.""The setup is easy and straightforward.""Visual Studio Test Professional's most valuable feature is the rich IDE for doing code and test development.""The solution is easy to use and they have also integrated with Microsoft.""The most valuable feature has been to store all our packages in one place including SSIS packages, SQL tables, TFS and SSR.""Its initial setup process is easy.""The solution is very stable; there's nothing in relation to stability to complain about."

Cons
"We used to run it as a test suite. Micro Focus provides that in terms of a test management tool as ALM, but when we think of integrating with a distributed version control system, like Jenkins, there isn't much integration available. That means we need to make use of external solutions to make it work.""Technical support could be improved.""I'd like to see test case-related reports included in the solution.""They need to reduce the cost because it is pretty high. It's approximately $3,000 per user.""I would want to see a significant improvement in the tool's features. The most significant enhancements are support for panel execution and integration with DevSecOps.""It should consume less CPU, and the licensing cost could be lower.""[Tech support is] not a 10 because what happens with some of our issues is that we might not get a patch quickly and we have to hold on to an application until we get a proper solution.""Micro Focus UFT One could benefit from creating modules that are more accessible to non-technical users. Without a developer background or at least basic knowledge of VBScript, using Micro Focus UFT One may not be feasible for everyone. This is something that Micro Focus, now owned by OpenText, should consider in order to cater to business professionals as well. While Micro Focus UFT One does have a recording function, it still requires a certain level of IT proficiency to create effective automation, which may be challenging for those outside of the technical field."

"The data flow can be improved.""The price is reasonable, but it's not the best.""Visual Studio Test Professional could improve by having better integration with external databases.""The solution is quite expensive.""We would like to be able to easily integrate this solution with our continuous integration tools, such as Jenkins.""Visual Studio Test Professional should include more automation.""Enhancing the support for web application testing and load performance would be an improvement.""It is hard to learn, and you need to invest time to understand it."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "It took about five years to break even. UFT is costly."
  • "The licensing and pricing model is confusing."
  • "It's an expensive solution."
  • "For the price of five automation licenses, you simply would not be able to hire five manual testers for two years worth of 24/7 manual testing work on demand."
  • "The price is only $3,000. I don't know how many QA analysts you would have in any given company. Probably no more than five or 10. So if it's a large corporation, it can easily afford $15,000 to $25,000. I don't see that being an issue."
  • "The way the pricing model works is that you pay a whole boatload year one. Then, every year after, it is around half or less. Because instead of paying for the new product, you are just paying for the support and maintenance of it. That is probably one of the biggest things that I hear from most people, even at conferences, "Yeah, I would love to use UFT One, but we don't have a budget for it.""
  • "The pricing fee is good. If someone makes use of the solution once a day for a half hour then the fee will be more expensive. For continuous use and application of the solution to different use cases, the fee is average."
  • "The price is one aspect that could be improved."

  • "For the cloud services option, you buy a subscription per account or per user. This costs around $52 a month per person."
  • "I think that the pricing is quite good."
  • "The pricing is expensive."
  • "We pay for the solution annually and the price could be reduced."
  • "There is a paid version of the solution as well as a community version that is free."
  • "Visual Studio Test Professional is a very expensive solution."
  • "The tool is expensive in my region."
  • "We pay a yearly licensing fee for Visual Studio Test Professional, which is expensive."
