We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"The reporting is really nice.""The most valuable features of Tricentis Tosca are the ease of use, you do not need to program if you do not want to.""The most valuable features of Tricentis Tosca are the Salesforce scanning. There are two scanning for Salesforce applications. There is Salesforce scanning and normal application scanning. Object identification has been really useful in Tricentis Tosca.""The most valuable feature is being able to create a test case by recording some scenarios and then leasing that task case to other scenarios.""This tool is very easy to use and I think that anyone can come in, having no experience with it, and within four to six months be comfortable with it.""We can also create customized functions. For example, if something isn't supported in Tricentis Tosca Commander, we can create our own function to integrate it with Tosca Commander, so we can utilize it and integrate with the macros.""The solution has plenty of features compared to other solutions.""Object Identification Wizard."

"Improvement means for us that we have to be better in quality. Due to automation, you can run every automated test case twice a week. If you do it manually, you do it once per release. This is a quality improvement.""Certify integrates with other tools and it works very well with other machine testing applications.""We are able to automate, not just SAP, but the entire application ecosystem. If you take any company, SAP is the backbone, and if they use SAP ERP, then, there are multiple software applications, where some of them are SAP and some of them are non-SAP applications. Worksoft is one of the tools which can transcend across SAP and non-SAP applications. Non-SAP application include Java or .NET. Worksoft can seamlessly automate these applications.""Certify's web UI testing abilities for testing of modern applications like SAP Fiori was good when we started and they developed it to be even better. We all know that web applications can change objects in DOM quite fast and it breaks tests. To counter it Certify has made object recognition more flexible and generic, so we don't have any troubles.""The most valuable feature is the ability to automate quickly and to maintain and update scripts.""With autotesting, we have been able to eliminate duplication of test cases across those four areas. This has helped us knock down our number of test cases. Our test cases are also running more optimally. Therefore, it has very much helped in that sense, so we were able to eliminate a lot of test cases and get out of manual silos by running on autotesting, which is more efficient.""For this SAP upgrade or implementation, the business users are creating building blocks in their areas, then they're changing the building blocks into long end-to-end scripts to do a complete end-to-end testing to speed up the UAT. It definitely has a bigger coverage of UAT testing.""What I like about Worksoft Certify is that end-to-end testing becomes faster."

Cons
"Very difficult to get information about licensing costs.""Parallel execution is not yet implemented for Tosca. This means you can't execute the same test case on multiple machines remotely.""The solution needs to improve its simulation of mobile environments. Right now, that aspect is really lacking.""I would like a better user interface.""The main area where there is room for improvement is how they do upgrades. Going through this current upgrade, we were delayed a month because we are using a third-party tool. It's called Tosca Connect by Tasktop. When this latest upgrade broke that relationship between the two, it took Tricentis a month to come back with a workable solution... Their whole upgrade process needs to be better and cleaner, from an end-user standpoint.""Their license management should be improved. One of our customers is a global customer. They want to use one licensed server and then split the licenses based on the different users of the different business units, but currently, there is only one license server that everybody can access. There is no control, and that's why sometimes congestion can happen.""In terms of areas for improvement, Tricentis has a variety of tools, even its test management tool called qTest. Tricentis Tosca does have integration with different Tricentis tools, but the integration is geared towards a larger organization perspective. For very small organizations that have minimal licenses, the integration needs to be improvised. For example, I belong to a smaller organization that has only one license, so the capability that the tool provides for integration isn't sufficient because my company needs to have separate workspaces. When Tricentis Tosca is going to be running, it is going to use that license, but my company wants another separate workspace to record, relay, and test. This is what my team has been struggling with, and the mechanism is probably there, but that needs more time and investigation, so I can't say that I'm one hundred percent certain that Tricentis Tosca, in terms of integration for a smaller organization is insufficient. Another area for improvement is that Tricentis Tosca is currently just a Windows-based tool which affects the market because nowadays, Windows isn't the only operating system, for example, there's also Apple or IOS that's moving much faster than Windows.""It needs better integration with JIRA."

"There have been some previous security concerns with the way that Capture has worked. When you turn it on, you don't know what it's capturing. This has raised some concerns in the past, especially in our European regions.""For the couple of the issues that we were really scratching our heads over, we were in communication with the technical support several times, but they never got back to us.""One feature that could be added to Capture 2.0 is generating a PDF file from your capture, so you can see your screenshots and steps.""With the codeless process automation across packaged applications, once in a while, if we get a weird application that's not widely used, it gets a little stickier. First, the software has to learn the fields, so you have to identify all the fields. Once you do that, as long as there isn’t any non-standard code in the application, then it works fine. But there's that one step that you have to do, a step you don't have to do with SAP and Salesforce, for example.""The definitions for the objects need to be automated. They need to be recognized automatically by Worksoft Certify instead of changing them back and forth manually. This is also something that Worksoft is currently working on.""Our interactions with technical support has not been the best always and there is room for improvement especially with respect to the time taken to respond to cases. However, with the right contacts and reasonable escalations we have always managed to get quick attention on our cases.""An area that I would like to see improved is how the permissions are applied. If you're applying permissions groups to a user, one of the options is to delete the group entirely and lose the entire permission group, rather than just deleting the permission from the user, which seems a little silly. In my opinion, that whole module of permissions is very confusing and lends itself to common errors.""The product had some UI issues."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "It is an expensive tool compared to other test automation tools. It has a lot of advantages over other tools."
  • "Expensive, but for long-term projects, it is paying back."
  • "The pricing is high, but altogether it offers you the ability to automate all sorts of applications: desktop, web, mobile, etc."
  • "We hired a consultant to figure out all the tools in our company and how they fit in our company before we purchased the solution."
  • "Tricentis Tosca may be relatively on the higher side in terms of pricing, but their sales rep can give pretty decent deals when asked."
  • "We have around 200 [concurrent] licenses and the cost around $1.4 million a year."
  • "My understanding is that it's an expensive product, although I don't know the specifics with regards to pricing."
  • "I would like to see better costing packs. There are several features but USD $11,000 for one license is expensive."
  • More Tricentis Tosca Pricing and Cost Advice →

  • "The tool is not really good at all because you need to purchase some additional tools."
  • "We would purchase more licenses right now if they were cheaper. Pricing is a little bit of a hindrance."
  • "It is expensive compared to some of the other automation tools in the market. However, the benefits and ROI has proved that it has been a good investment."
  • "The initial upfront cost in terms of licenses, plus all the money that we spent developing tests, has proven it's worth. Now, we can do a regression test suite in ten days as opposed to sixteen weeks."
  • "Our ROI is primarily a reduction in testing time. The testing, when we were doing it manually, was 30 to 40 percent of the project's cost."
  • "We ended up buying too many licenses. They were very good at selling it to us, and probably oversold it a little. We bought 45 licenses and have never used more than twenty. However, they gave us a pretty significant discount on the bigger license, so it made sense for us to buy enough that we wouldn't have to go back and ask for more."
  • "We could use Certify to do robotic process automation, which is basically running a process on your correction system instead of your test system. Therefore, we may do that in the future."
  • "By using automation, it reduced about 75 percent of the time when compared to any other tool."
