We performed a comparison between Microsoft Virtual Server and Parallels Remote Application Server (RAS) based on real PeerSpot user reviews.
Find out in this report how the two Application Virtualization solutions compare in terms of features, pricing, service and support, easy of deployment, and ROI."The solution is good at allowing end users to connect anytime and anywhere."
"The greatest aspect of the solution is its capability to be available from anywhere."
"Microsoft Virtual Server is a highly scalable solution."
"The most valuable features are monitoring, and the self-service that they have for a customized environment."
"The product helps us secure VMs from vulnerabilities in our systems like Sentinel. It indicates the threat via email notification."
"The most valuable feature is the tool's cheap cost."
"It is a scalable solution...I followed some online tutorials, because of which I did not face any technical issues or the need to contact the solution's technical support."
"We use the solution for internal business purposes."
"It permits us to control the applications that our users are able to get to, in a seamless manner. We're able to distribute applications to users' desktops, just like those applications are on each user's computer, but they're not."
"The stability is ok - once I finished the setup, the system was quite stable."
"We can provision the servers without the need for another third-party solution."
"Simplicity of the interface is a valuable feature."
"Ease of use in publishing apps and installing the agent. The Interface is fairly intuitive after some tinkering. Although I inherited the app only two-thirds deployed, I was able to complete the deployment and service it over the last year without referring to any documentation."
"You have the opportunity to virtualize applications in different locations. Everything is in one pane or one window, which is quite good."
"Allows us to publish applications accessible by current-generation HTML5 browser or OS-specific client (Windows, Android, iOS), and it supports popular single sign-on and multi-factor authentication protocols."
"Valuable features include the ability to set up security groups for accessing certain apps, and the ability to add apps easily and centrally without touching the servers they’re hosted on."
"The platform’s dashboard features could be better."
"The product must reduce the cost by 40%."
"There could be more security features included in the product."
"The pricing and scalability are areas of the product with shortcomings where improvements are required."
"While I am generally satisfied with the solution, it could slightly improve its stability."
"The main thing that could be improved is the licensing cost."
"In terms of what could be improved, pricing is always too high of course."
"Microsoft Virtual Server needs to improve its stability."
"A web-based management interface for administration and reporting would be nice, instead of needing to log into a remote server."
"It would be great if there were more sophisticated GPO templates/options."
"Sometimes you need to understand how to use load balancing and the gateway in order to scale, which means the team may need some additional technical knowledge."
"The product does not utilize SQL for reporting purposes. Also, it does not support some hypervisors similar to Citrix. These particular areas need improvement."
"Parallels Remote Application Server (RAS) is an expensive solution, and its pricing could be improved."
"We would like the ability to provide a popup message, such as a maintenance notification. That same notification on the Parallels client would be awesome."
"Currently in the RD Session Hosts – Sessions section, I can see what server a user is logged into but not what app he is using. Being able to do so would be immensely helpful when a non-technical user is complaining of issues, but I can’t tell which app he is using, and he is actually logged into multiple servers since they serve multiple apps."
"Opening a ticket should be available from the actual RAS console. It is cumbersome to go to a portal, hunt around for five minutes for a link to open a ticket, answer questions meant to direct you towards FAQs instead of live support, then fill out information (license #, version #, etc.) which could more easily be supplied by sending a ticket straight from the console with all of that information automatically specified."
