We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"Sentinel uses Azure Logic Apps for automation, which is really powerful. This allows us to easily automate responses to incidents.""Sentinel is a Microsoft product, so they provide very robust use cases and analytic groups, which are very beneficial for the security team. I also like the ability to integrate data sources into the software for on-premise and cloud-based solutions.""Sentinel improved how we investigate incidents. We can create watchlists and update them to align with the latest threat intelligence. The information Microsoft provides enables us to understand thoroughly and improve as we go along. It allows us to provide monthly reports to our clients on their security posture.""The most valuable feature is the alert notifications, which are categorized by severity levels: informational, low, medium, and high.""Sentinel pricing is good""Sentinel's most important feature is the ability to centralize all the logs in one place. There's no need to search multiple systems for information.""The standout feature of Sentinel is that, because it's cloud-based and because it's from Microsoft, it integrates really well with all the other Microsoft products. It's really simple to set up and get going.""Sentinel has features that have helped improve our security poster. It helped us in going ahead and identifying the gaps via analysis and focusing on the key elements."

More Microsoft Sentinel Pros →

"The primary valuable feature is that it has replaced a whole lot of other products with one platform.""FortiSIEM sends an email or SMS notifications to admins when there are significant incidents. It's a highly efficient way of responding to incidents.""The seamless integration with FortiGate is the solution's most valuable aspect.""The product is quite well-organized. The GUI makes it easy to navigate.""The interface is very easy to use. The connector in the core has FortiSIEM support from the vendor.""Real-time monitoring makes life quite easy for me.""We're able to get real-timec as well as our customer networks that we're monitoring at all times.""Analytics is the most valuable feature. The business service summaries in the dashboards and the correlations for the SIEM are also valuable features."

More Fortinet FortiSIEM Pros →

"We solve issues that we previously could not since we now have the data.""The ability to digest any information and then correlate it in accordance with what you need is valuable. The ability to connect to pretty much everything and bring the information in the same format is also valuable. On top of that, we can use their language in order to create and customize the dashboards, correlations, or analytics that we want to incorporate.""Support is quick and competent.""The most valuable feature of Splunk is the management and built-in workflows.""The product is adept at log mining.""The search lookups are useful.""The most valuable feature is the DSS, also known as SPL, because it allows users to script advanced queries with limited knowledge.""The graph visualization is the most valuable feature."

Cons
"I believe one of the challenges I encountered was the absence of live training sessions, even with the option to pay for them.""Improvement-wise, I would like to see more integration with third-party solutions or old-school antivirus products that have some kind of logging capability. I wouldn't mind having that exposed within Sentinel. We do have situations where certain companies have bought licensing or have made an investment in a product, and that product will be there for the next two or three years. To be able to view information from those legacy products would be great. We can then better leverage the Sentinel solution and its capabilities.""Its implementation could be simpler. It is not really simple or straightforward. It is in the middle. Sometimes, connectors are a little bit complex.""If you're looking to use canned queries, the interface could be a little more straightforward. It's not immediately intuitive regarding how you use it. You have to take a canned query and paste it into an operational box and then you hit a button... They could improve the ease of deploying these queries.""Sentinel's alerts and notifications are not fully optimized for mobile devices. The overall reporting and the analytics processes for the end user should also be improved. Also, the compatibility and availability of data sources and reports are not always perfect.""When we pass KPIs to the governance department, there's no option to provide rights to the data or dashboard to colleagues. We can use Power BI for this, but it isn't easy or convenient. They should just come up with a way to provide limited role-based access to auditing personnel""They should integrate it with many other software-as-a-service providers and make connectors available so that you don't have to do any sort of log normalization.""Sentinel still has some anomalies. For example, sometimes when we write a query for log analysis with KQL, it doesn't give us the data in a proper way... Also, the fields or columns could be improved. Sometimes, it is not giving the desired results and there is a blank field."

More Microsoft Sentinel Cons →

"The solution needs to do a better job with third party integration. Right now, that's lacking on the solution. I specifically am talking about the AWS environment. Most of the AWS environment products do not have that capability to integrate.""I would like to see more integration with other platforms.""They should enhance the solution's AI capabilities, including XDR and EDR.""It lacks a "wizard" that shows a particular user's activity or particular circumstance. I think the interface is intimidating because there's so much information there.""They could work on their documentation. If there's anything about the solution that needs improvement, it's that. For example, documentation already is on a very high level but specifically on the CLI there are tons of features which can be fine-tuned and thousands of commands are very difficult to document. If they could make this easier, it would improve the overall solution.""The graphs on the user interface could be improved as we often experience glitches.""The process of installing Fortinet FortiSIEM and the customization of the alerts take too long.""The product does not have Security Orchestration and Automation Response, I would recommend adding this feature."

More Fortinet FortiSIEM Cons →

"I would like to see an updated dashboard. The dashboard is a little out-of-date. It could be made prettier.""One issue is that we are getting a lot of false positives. We are trying to reduce them by customizing the default rules, changing thresholds, and using white-listing and black-listing. It's getting better and better as a result. But they need to build components that would reduce the false positives.""The difficult part is related to integration with sources of data that are used to create the logs as this depends on the infrastructure of the client.""In terms of the interface, it could include some improvements for the look and feel.""Splunk could enhance its services by providing more comprehensive professional assistance aimed at optimizing our investment.""The support that is included with the standard licensing fee is very bad.""The GUI can be improved. Splunk has always suffered from having a kind of goofy UI, it needs some updating.""Previously, they developed custom connectors or add-ons for a lot of applications. But that number can be upgraded still. There are a lot of applications in the world that are not supported."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "It comes with a Microsoft subscription which the customer has, so they don't have to invest somewhere else."
  • "It is a consumption-based license model. bands at 100, 200, 400 GB per day etc. Azure Sentinel Pricing | Microsoft Azure"
  • "Good monthly operational cost model for the detection and response outcomes delivered, M365 logs don't count toward the limits which is a good benefit."
  • "I have had mixed feedback. At one point, I heard a client say that it sometimes seems more expensive. Most of the clients are on Office 365 or M365, and they are forced to take Azure SIEM because of the integration."
  • "It is kind of like a sliding scale. There are different tiers of pricing that go from $100 per day up to $3,500 per day. So, it just kind of depends on how much data is being stored. There can be additional costs to the standard license other than the additional data. It just kind of depends on what other services you're spinning up in Azure, or if you're using something like Azure log analytics."
  • "I am just paying for the log space with Azure Sentinel. It costs us about $2,000 a month. Most of the logs are free. We are only paying money for Azure Firewall logs because email logs or Azure AD logs are free to use for us."
  • "Sentinel is a bit expensive. If you can figure a way of configuring it to meet your needs, then you can find a way around the cost."
  • "Azure Sentinel is very costly, or at least it appears to be very costly. The costs vary based on your ingestion and your retention charges."

  • "Please be cheaper and more simplified."
  • "We bought the perpetual license, so we own the product, but there is a three-year support renewal fee for that."
  • "Pricing is acceptable for more than 90% of our customers, as they normally get discounts."
  • "Its price can be better. We are Fortinet partners, so we can get discounts, but its price can be an issue at the beginning for others. There is a licensing scheme for every case. There are three licensing schemes that we can choose from."
  • "The price of Fortinet FortiSIEM is a lot less when compared to other solutions."
  • "They have a yearly subscription."
  • "The solution is available for both, perpetual and subscription licenses."
  • "Manageable, however would be better as pay as you go versus CapEX."

  • "Splunk Enterprise becomes extremely expensive after the 20GB/month license."
