Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"The native integration of the Microsoft security solution has been essential because it helps reduce some false positives, especially with some of the impossible travel rules that may be configured in Microsoft 365. For some organizations, that might be benign because they're using VPNs, etc.""The most valuable feature is the alert notifications, which are categorized by severity levels: informational, low, medium, and high.""The product can integrate with any device.""Sentinel uses Azure Logic Apps for automation, which is really powerful. This allows us to easily automate responses to incidents.""The log analysis is excellent; it can predict what can or will happen regarding use patterns and vulnerabilities.""It's pretty powerful and its performance is pretty good.""Native integration with Microsoft security products or other Microsoft software is also crucial. For example, we can integrate Sentinel with Office 365 with one click. Other integrations aren't as easy. Sometimes, we have to do it manually.""The scalability is great. You can put unlimited logs in, as long as you can pay for it. There are commitment tiers, up to six terabytes per day, which is nowhere close to what any one of our customers is running."

"Possibility to investigate incidents based on logs and raw packets, such as extracting files sent over the network""Alerting Module: It provides real-time event processing language on all the logs/packets stream for advanced alerting, i.e., using SQL LIKE statements.""It gives the capability for the incident response team to correlate logs to identify any kind of problem like malware and incidents in a general sense, both for logs and packets.""The most valuable features are the integration and ease of use.""The product has a user-friendly interface and a valuable feature for threat intelligence integration.""What we are mainly using are the RSA concentrator, RSA Decoder, Archiver, Broker, and Log Decoder.""The newer 11.5 version that my team is using has found it to have good mapping.""The most valuable features are the threat prediction and network forensics."

More NetWitness Platform Pros →

"The best feature of this product is the ease of use. It is extremely easy to set up and get going. This is a very useful tool for a small organization.""The setup is very easy and straightforward.""The most valuable feature in AT&T AlienVault USM is the reporting.""This is a USM, so being able to get all the features under one roof makes it a good product with good new features.""The asset management of nodes has been a large help in terms of being able to track applications with more detail and have changes made being monitored into one source.""The most valuable feature is threat intelligence.""We're using it more for reporting, that's all. We're using it to help our customers to pass any kind of audits that they receive.""Allowed us to help our customers satisfy compliance needs around logging and monitoring."

Cons
"If we want to use more features, we have to pay more. There are multiple solutions on the cloud itself, but the pricing model package isn't consistent, which is confusing to clients.""The on-prem log sources still require a lot of development.""Its documentation is not so simple. It is easy for somebody who is Microsoft certified or more closely attached to Microsoft solutions. It is not easy for those who are working on open-source platforms. There isn't a central point where everything is documented, and there is no specific training or certification.""There is some relatively advanced knowledge that you have to have to properly leverage Sentinel's full capabilities. I'm thinking about things like the creation of workbooks, how you do threat-hunting, and the kinds of notifications you're getting... It takes time for people to ramp up on that and develop a familiarity or expertise with it.""The data connectors for third-party tools could be improved, as some aren't available in Sentinel. They need to be available in the data connector panel.""Its implementation could be simpler. It is not really simple or straightforward. It is in the middle. Sometimes, connectors are a little bit complex.""We do see continuous improvement all the time, however, I haven't got a specific feature that is lacking or not well designed.""For certain vendors, some of the data that Microsoft Sentinel captures is redacted due to privacy reasons."

More Microsoft Sentinel Cons →

"I believe that integrating the solution with other products such as Oracle would be beneficial.""Lots of competing products have vulnerability protection built into their products, and this solution would be improved by including that support.""I'd like to see improvement in its ease of use. It's basically unusable. It's overly complex.""Its technical support could be better.""The documentation is not as structured as I would like, personally, and I think that it can be improved and made much more user-friendly.""There is no support for this product in this country, so problems have to be resolved through global technical teams.""The system looks like it is a mix of a bunch of different systems, and nothing looked like it was quite together.""If we have the ability to run a dynamic analysis through malware in the same suite, it would be great to have a sandbox solution to analyze malware through dynamic analysis."

More NetWitness Platform Cons →

"It would be nice to see some machine learning and monitoring of the configuration in network devices.""AT&T AlienVault USM can improve searchable data. It should be available for more than 90 days. If you need more than 90 days of data, you have to put a request and they give you raw data, which is not easy to search. A good addition would be to allow users to search data older than 90 days.""Maybe logs are the problem, as the database query is too slow. If you want to search something, you need time to find it.""The reporting and dashboards have room for improvement.""This solution could be easier to use.""We develop additional rules and scripts to make it more usable.""Search performance can be slow. The Raw Logs feature is painfully slow. And if we're talking about the newer, the Anywhere product, you can't even schedule reports on the thing. There are probably a dozen other features I'd really like to see there, but that would be one of the biggies.""The solution is a bit complicated. It could be simplified quite a bit."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "It comes with a Microsoft subscription which the customer has, so they don't have to invest somewhere else."
  • "It is a consumption-based license model. bands at 100, 200, 400 GB per day etc. Azure Sentinel Pricing | Microsoft Azure"
  • "Good monthly operational cost model for the detection and response outcomes delivered, M365 logs don't count toward the limits which is a good benefit."
  • "I have had mixed feedback. At one point, I heard a client say that it sometimes seems more expensive. Most of the clients are on Office 365 or M365, and they are forced to take Azure SIEM because of the integration."
  • "It is kind of like a sliding scale. There are different tiers of pricing that go from $100 per day up to $3,500 per day. So, it just kind of depends on how much data is being stored. There can be additional costs to the standard license other than the additional data. It just kind of depends on what other services you're spinning up in Azure, or if you're using something like Azure log analytics."
  • "I am just paying for the log space with Azure Sentinel. It costs us about $2,000 a month. Most of the logs are free. We are only paying money for Azure Firewall logs because email logs or Azure AD logs are free to use for us."
  • "Sentinel is a bit expensive. If you can figure a way of configuring it to meet your needs, then you can find a way around the cost."
  • "Azure Sentinel is very costly, or at least it appears to be very costly. The costs vary based on your ingestion and your retention charges."

  • "It’s cheaper to run virtual machines in a VMware environment."
  • "The new pricing and licensing mechanisms are fair. I would advise always to get the full solution (i.e., not only Logs)."
  • "It is cheap."
  • "The licenses are good but the cost is very expensive."
  • "This is a pricey solution; it's not cheap."
  • "We have a perpetual license, so the total cost of ownership is not very expensive. It's a good investment."
  • "Many clients are not able to purchase the packet capability because there is a huge amount of data, and the cost depends on the number of EPS (Events per second), as well as the number of gigabytes of data per day."
  • "Our license is for one year."

  • "AlienVault is flexible on their pricing for unlimited licenses."
  • "Pricing is very competitive with other products and you get much more functionality from AlienVault."
  • "QRadar, ArcSight and Splunk are some of the most expensive SIEM products out there in the market and not everyone has the budget to buy them. In such cases, AV USM is a very cost effective alternative."
  • "Do the one month trial and try to work out the kinks during it, as it has free support and service hours."
  • "We checked out several competitors. For what it can do and the cost, it was the best option!"
  • "Use the AlienVault team. They are helpful and the documentation that they provide is second to none."
  • "The price point is good."
  • "It has good pricing."
