Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"There are a lot of things you can explore as a user. You can even go and actively hunt for threats. You can go on the offensive rather than on the defensive.""The Log analytics are useful.""We’ve got process improvement that's happened across multiple different fronts within the organization, within our IT organization based on this tool being in place.""Sentinel enables us to ingest data from our entire ecosystem. In addition to integrating our Cisco ASA Firewall logs, we get our Palo Alto proxy logs and some on-premises data coming from our hardware devices... That is very important and is one way Sentinel is playing a wider role in our environment.""It has a lot of great features.""Sentinel has features that have helped improve our security poster. It helped us in going ahead and identifying the gaps via analysis and focusing on the key elements.""The log analysis is excellent; it can predict what can or will happen regarding use patterns and vulnerabilities.""Mainly, this is a cloud-native product. So, there are zero concerns about managing the whole infrastructure on-premises."

"The graphical user interface is very user-friendly. SolarWinds is a hybrid solution so you can use it across many platforms.""This tool is simple to use.""It supports high availability, which is very helpful.""Some of the rules are most valuable because you can be notified about various things, such as spyware or things that are going on in the internal network.""The solution helps me to go back in time and search for different events. For example, if you wanted to know who activated an account; you could go back in time and find out.""SolarWinds Security Event Manager has been generally working well.""The most valuable feature is the ease of use for the end user.""It's extremely easy to deploy."

"AlientVault has helped us in improving our visualization and incident response during cybersecurity situations.""The most valuable feature of this solution is security management for PCI DSS.""In terms of monitoring, my best feature would be the monitoring of components across the network. It monitors the respective nodes and any new node that comes onto the network and provides reports. The reporting dashboards are really helpful for management in terms of making decisions around patch management.""Having everything in a central place has been helpful.""Ease of deployment across various environments.""It has allowed us to see what is happening on our servers.""It is my "security person" looking at irregularities and letting me know when something has occurred.""The best thing about AlienVault USM is it being a “Jack-of-All Trades” solution. It provides SIEM, HIDS/NIDS, FIM, NetFlow, Asset Management, Vulnerability Management, etc., under one USM platform. None of the commercial SIEM vendors like ArcSight, McAfee, etc., can boast of such a diverse feature set."

Cons
"Sentinel's alerts and notifications are not fully optimized for mobile devices. The overall reporting and the analytics processes for the end user should also be improved. Also, the compatibility and availability of data sources and reports are not always perfect.""They could use some kind of workbook. There is some limitation doing the editing and creating the workbook.""When it comes to ingesting Azure native log sources, some of the log sources are specific to the subscription, and it is not always very clear.""The solution could improve the playbooks.""We'd like to see more connectors.""They're giving us the queries so we can plug them right into Sentinel. They need to have a streamlined process for updating them in the tool and knowing when things are updated and knowing when there are new detections available from Microsoft.""Add more out-of-the-box connectors with other SaaS platforms/applications.""I believe one of the challenges I encountered was the absence of live training sessions, even with the option to pay for them."

More Microsoft Sentinel Cons →

"It can be difficult for users who are inexperienced with the solution.""The product should improve the ease with which you can create event alerts. They are not as hard now but you need to have an easier way.""Training for this solution needs to be improved, as new employees are sometimes unfamiliar with the product.""There are no multiple dashboards which would allow you to see information side-by-side.""We'd like more customization capabilities.""I don't think SolarWinds is scalable enough. It is somewhat limited when I need to deploy it across multiple environments in a distributed architecture.""The company had to use a third party for the implementation of the solution.""I would like to be able to dig deeper into the visibility of events or incidents to determine whether they are malicious, such as by doing behavior analysis."

More SolarWinds Security Event Manager Cons →

"The reporting is mediocre and is something that needs to be improved.""AlienVault needs to continue to integrate with other third-party technologies that clients want to have monitored.""We would like more plugins. This being the main point of improvement which would benefit the users.""Its reporting tools need improvements. It would be good if they can provide integration with other ticketing systems. Currently, we only have integration with Slack and Jira. It is also a bit slow, and its replication engine can be improved.""Their threat intelligence platform needs to be broadened. They should integrate it with more threat intelligence platforms. For the threat feed that they get from open intelligence, I would like them to add a few premium threat intelligence platforms. They can provide a bundle in which AlienVault has the threat intelligence background of other premium products.""For creating new rules, you have to be familiar with regular expressions. I feel there could be something built-in to make sure that process is easier.""We've had some stability problems, not a lot, but a few. Updates seem to be the worst. That seems to be when the stability problems come up.""There are many reports included but would be nice to have better access to the data."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "It comes with a Microsoft subscription which the customer has, so they don't have to invest somewhere else."
  • "It is a consumption-based license model. bands at 100, 200, 400 GB per day etc. Azure Sentinel Pricing | Microsoft Azure"
  • "Good monthly operational cost model for the detection and response outcomes delivered, M365 logs don't count toward the limits which is a good benefit."
  • "I have had mixed feedback. At one point, I heard a client say that it sometimes seems more expensive. Most of the clients are on Office 365 or M365, and they are forced to take Azure SIEM because of the integration."
  • "It is kind of like a sliding scale. There are different tiers of pricing that go from $100 per day up to $3,500 per day. So, it just kind of depends on how much data is being stored. There can be additional costs to the standard license other than the additional data. It just kind of depends on what other services you're spinning up in Azure, or if you're using something like Azure log analytics."
  • "I am just paying for the log space with Azure Sentinel. It costs us about $2,000 a month. Most of the logs are free. We are only paying money for Azure Firewall logs because email logs or Azure AD logs are free to use for us."
  • "Sentinel is a bit expensive. If you can figure a way of configuring it to meet your needs, then you can find a way around the cost."
  • "Azure Sentinel is very costly, or at least it appears to be very costly. The costs vary based on your ingestion and your retention charges."

  • "Licensing is on devices, so if you have many, then this may be high."
  • "We do a yearly license renewal. For a year, the solution costs roughly $500,000 USD. There are no costs beyond this yearly fee."
  • "The pricing model would benefit from having package deals with other SolarWinds products."
  • "Licenses can only be purchased in blocks of fifty at a time."
  • "It is in the appropriate mid-range. It is not as expensive as some of the other solutions. It is also not cheap."
  • "The price of SolarWinds Security Event Manager is reasonable."
  • More SolarWinds Security Event Manager Pricing and Cost Advice →

  • "AlienVault is flexible on their pricing for unlimited licenses."
  • "Pricing is very competitive with other products and you get much more functionality from AlienVault."
  • "QRadar, ArcSight and Splunk are some of the most expensive SIEM products out there in the market and not everyone has the budget to buy them. In such cases, AV USM is a very cost effective alternative."
  • "Do the one month trial and try to work out the kinks during it, as it has free support and service hours."
  • "We checked out several competitors. For what it can do and the cost, it was the best option!"
  • "Use the AlienVault team. They are helpful and the documentation that they provide is second to none."
  • "The price point is good."
  • "It has good pricing."
