We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"The CDP backup feature is very nice, as it allows you to take backups at high frequencies and with application consistency.""The initial setup was simple and easy. Anyone without prior experience can install, configure, and use it.""The interface is user-friendly and even if our tech isn't onsite, we can work with the owners to confirm that the data will be restored with no issues.""We frequently use the granular restore option for when our users accidentally delete files or to recover emails from mailboxes. We have found that to be a must-have feature and it comes with the solution at no extra cost.""The product has many valuable features for handling backup needs, including replication, live migration, and incremental disaster recovery.""Valuable features for us include quick recovery, compression, and deduplication.""This solution is stable.""The ease of use of the solution is its most valuable feature. The interface is also excellent."

"It is a very mature product.""The solution is really scalable.""It is an IBM product. With SAP, you are using IBM software to protect it. DB2 and AIX servers are both IBM. Therefore, it is a total IBM solution, which helps.""What I found most valuable in IBM Spectrum Protect is that it allows you to back up physical machines, and its proxy feature lets you back up virtual machines.""With data deduplication and compression, we are reducing our overall storage footprint for our disk histories. Therefore, we are reducing the actual cost of the disk for our data protection and data backups.""Reliability: It has never had a problem with backups or restores. If you store something, it is there.""The most valuable features are the stability and also how it's seamlessly integrated with other IBM offerings.""We have been using it for several years, and it is quite reliable and predictable. We are quite comfortable with this solution. They're coming up with new features as well. It has good scalability, and it provides good integrations with business-critical applications or databases, such as SAP HANA. It works as expected, and we don't see any issues."

Cons
"To improve Altaro, I would like to see the ability to choose more than one backup location at a time.""It would be nice to be able to recover the items to their original location.""The application could include a feature to install a set size of data, such as the ability to store a single application with all its registry information for easy transfer.""The initial set up was complex, and I was not able to do the set up myself.""The cloud backup and VMware support (now available in the latest releases), could do with some improvement.""It would be nice to see a feature that backs up the host so that, in case of a server failure, an entire server could be restored all at once.""The scalability of the solution is limited.""If you look into the performance of a virtual machine and you look to the performance of the physical machine, the correlation between these is totally unclear."

"Software-wise, IBM Spectrum Protect didn't handle virtual machines that well. The license cost is mainly the area for improvement in IBM Spectrum Protect.""We did not see any drawbacks to IBM Spectrum Protect before assisting a customer using Windows that wanted to migrate to using UNIX. IBM Spectrum Protect does not offer an option to migrate from other operating systems.""It can be improved for large file systems with many files. Spectrum Protect can restore large files very well, but if you're restoring millions of little files, it is not as great. At one point, we tried to implement the VMware module with it, and it was awful and terrible. I don't know if that has improved. If it hasn't, this would be one big improvement.""They do not have a unified GUI, they only work on CLI and operations center, which is really complicated for the installation and configuration.""There is room for improvement in the service aspect.""I would like to see integration with Copy Data Management, which is an IBM product. Right now, these two products are siloed, so if these two become integrated, the product would become a bit of a powerhouse.""Stability is very good now. It used to be rocky years ago.""Technical support could be improved."
