We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"With Google Analytics, you choose what performance metrics you want to have reported, but with AppPulse Mobile, you have a global vision of what is really happening inside your app.""The speed that you can get AppPulse out there was the brightest spot of this whole process.""Customer are able to develop more quickly versions in which users can see the application to correct and monetize it.""It identifies transactions and flows of the operations that our customers use with our mobile application.""We can collect data about the user experience and see how the user is behaving with the app, or check the behavior of the app itself.""The application is easy to use, as it is friendly and graphic.""AppPulse Active allows us to very quickly produce synthetic monitoring for our applications.""The thing that I like about AppPulse is that it's easy application to install and an easy application to use to provide information for our customers."

"The monitoring so far has been good and we are happy with it.""The service maps that it creates, the health maps that it creates, the insights that it provides, etc., are all quite useful.""Sometimes, I monitor the user's time of response and use this information to improve the number of servers on the back-end. Or, I can use it to change my back log for front-end developers and improve their response times. It's very important in this case because I can improve the experience of the final user.""The most valuable feature is the New Relic APM module to deep-dive into the application, to get bottlenecks to the surface, and to improve application performance. Also, the New Relic Insights module creates a real-time dashboard on application performance to create awareness for the DevOps team.""We use it for monitoring, identifying when services go down, or when they are outside of what we would consider normal operations.""Server uptime is its most valuable feature.""The product allows the developer to see the actual problems in the applications.""We were able to integrate with the messaging tool, Slack, which meant that we got notifications whenever something was not quite right."

Cons
"It needs compatibility for Windows Mobile, because I think AppPulse doesn't have Windows Mobile.""I would love if AppPulse delivered more details about my users, for example, age and sex. It could split up the users into categories based on how frequently they use my product.""I think they can improve the feature that identifies the operating systems, the brand of the devices, the response time, geolocalization.""The ability to get CI information from AppPulse into OMi.""It could be better if you had any of the reports that the customers asked from us, for example, punctually. Unfortunately, the reporter is not that practical.""The regulations should be better customized for the kind of data that we cannot send to the SALs environment.""The one that sticks out in my mind is some flexibility to do recurring downtime.""Currently, the information for management teams and technical teams are in the same view, but it would be useful if we could separate these views."

"They don't have an opportunity to share the dashboard with the public. If you want to share it with stakeholders or people outside the organization who just want to have a look at a couple of metrics, you can't do that without onboarding them to the product itself.""New Relic does enable frontend performance monitoring by default. However, when we are troubleshooting the issue, New Relic is not able to trace back to the service where the issue is. Other solutions, such as Dynatrace are better.""One thing I'd like to see in any APM, especially New Relic, is the ability to use distributed transactions. When one microservice calls another, it calls another database and microservice. The entire data visualization layer will not be able to correlate from one microservice from end to end and return on that path. Distributed transactions would be a great addition that would make life simpler. Unfortunately, no APM has that end-to-end capability.""I would like an infrastructure network that provides real-time views, showing the issues.""Data Dog captures the entire session and then provides it as a video player path, which gives more insight into what the user was doing. It's pretty impressive. New Relic does that, yet it only captures using a couple of screenshots, which is not very detailed since you are unable to see the entire user flow.""The solution could improve by having more network monitoring features, such as for all the infrastructure.""They need to improve the alerting and dashboarding as these are the key features in DevOps.""I would like to be able to invest less time in IT and ad hocs. We should be concentrating on other issues."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "It was a no-brainer from a cost perspective compared to the other tools that we buy as an IT organization."
  • More AppPulse Suite [EOL] Pricing and Cost Advice →

  • "New Relic is either free with low retention and minimal functionalities, or expensive with full options and retention."
  • "The monthly cost os $1000 per server per month, but it could be even more. We pay about $250 for the server, and then New Relic wants over $1000 to give us statistics on those servers."
  • "Cost is significant with a lot of extras."
  • "It would be nice if we could buy it annually instead of monthly."
  • "If it’s the right tool, it doesn’t matter what it costs because you’re going to get it back many-fold from your productivity."
  • "I recommend using the free version of New Relic. If you like the free version and understand its importance for your company, you can move to the trial. Then, you can migrate to the paid version."
  • "There is a picture which goes to your browser and it monitors requests from other users. However, it's impossible to use now because the price is very high. The feature is very nice, but I tried it during the trial period, and the current price makes it impossible to use."
  • "They gave us aggressive discounts when they were brought in for the first time, but they have also kept them for the year-on-year renewals, which has been absolutely fine."
