Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"It has helped us to provide comprehensive data protection with high recovery rates and a malware scanning feature.""The solution has been very stable.""I have found all the features useful in the solution.""The agentless architecture has minimized our software footprint at the client level."

More Asigra Pros →

"We used Dell Avamar for backup and recovery of a virtual environment.""Effective in protecting the virtualization system and end points.""The fast backup and recovery and the Full Backup features are valuable.""Dell EMC Avamar is very good with endpoint backups.""We are talking about a complete end-to-end solution which comes with its own hardware storage to back up the data on tape-less.""Dell Avamar has helped our organization by allowing us to do backups.""Source based deduplication is the most attractive feature as it drastically reduces the backup window.""Graphically, it's very user interactive. It's got a very nice interface."

Cons
"The management could be a bit better.""They should improve the malware scanning capabilities, extending it to protect cloud application data."

More Asigra Cons →

"The solution used to freeze sometimes while taking a snapshot backup.""I have found the support from Dell EMC Avamar to be not as good as Veeam. The time it takes to receive support could be improved. However, once we have the support the agents are knowledgeable and helpful.""There are limitations when trying to use this solution with Hyper-V.""Avamar is dependent on the hardware. It can't be implemented with ordinary storage. It can only be implemented with an EMC product. We want to have a backup solution that allows us to use independent storage and other hardware. It would be good if they can simplify its technology and make it possible to implement it with another storage. This is probably not possible because Avamar is an EMC product, and EMC would like to sell its own products.""The UI is not easy to use. There are other products such as Veeam that are easy to use for the end-user which is why they are moving away from Avamar or Networker.""It is very scalable, and that's its claim to fame, but that also makes it hard to make changes. Anytime there is a large piece of software, changing that piece of software is harder. You've got a larger install base, so you can't just rapidly change. We also use another product called Veeam, and it has this new feature called Continuous Data Protection, which basically lets you get very close to the way the system was in time. We have a system or two up there on which we have set 10 minutes Continuous Data Protection. So, we can roll it back to whatever it was 10 minutes ago, 20 minutes ago, or 30 minutes ago. This feature doesn't exist in Avamar Data Domain. That's the one feature I'd like to see first.""I would like to see better integration with third-party applications and platforms.""Interfaces need to be improved."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "Asigra is priced competitively, but requires technical expertise to operate, optimize, and maintain its services."
  • "The price of Asigra could improve, it is expensive. We have purchased an annual license."
  • More Asigra Pricing and Cost Advice →

  • "It is very expensive. It's a trust based licensing. So that's an ethical challenge."
  • "This solution is less expensive than Veeam for us, although it depends on the customer because we get a great discount."
  • "I'm not sure, but perhaps the pricing could be done better at the moment."
  • "The price is the main thing I'd like to see them change. If they can come down in price, that would be a good thing. It's very cost competitive in the entry level range, because Veeam pricing is much cheaper than Avamar."
  • "It was approximately $70-80,000 when it was under support, but right now EMC has not been supporting this product for two years."
  • "Licensing was generally on a per VM or terabyte basis. They changed their licensing model a couple of times and turned it into socket-based licensing, which is an improvement in their licensing model."
  • "When it comes to competition the price is not what is important, it's not the problem."
  • "The price of this product should be lower."
