We performed a comparison between DX Unified Infrastructure Management and SolarWinds NPM based on real PeerSpot user reviews.
Find out in this report how the two Cloud Monitoring Software solutions compare in terms of features, pricing, service and support, easy of deployment, and ROI."We can manage the entire system across the network and troubleshoot the pain points."
"Great customized dashboards and drill down reports with auto serve analytics."
"I recall the initial setup being straightforward."
"It is easy to implement but requires good planning."
"Probe packages and probe deployment."
"Technical support is great."
"Great out-of-the-box capability."
"It is very scalable."
"The real value is our being able to pull all the historic data that we need in order to gather every little metric and nuanced piece of information from a given device, a given piece of infrastructure, in order for us to generate alerts."
"The initial setup is easy."
"Network performance is the main issue clients are facing. SolarWinds checks if a node is down, and we can set thresholds for performance metrics. For example, we set it up to get an alert automatically if a value is over 80 percent. It has a full dashboard that covers CP, hard disk, and node monitoring."
"The people in technical support are very good."
"It's easy to understand, even if you are not too technical."
"The connectivity of the solution is very good."
"The product is lightweight in terms of memory use, requiring only 10 megabytes or less."
"The ability to quickly identify downtime is the most valuable."
"There are a lot of valuable features with SolarWinds NPM. We can receive a lot of detailed data from the monitoring that can use useful for investigations, especially when you are troubleshooting. It is very helpful. Overall it was a very good experience."
"The Wi-Fi side needs improvement."
"There is also room for improvement in the reporting. It is not really good enough, according to our customers. So what we now usually do is use Power BI to get them the kinds of reports they want."
"We've had issues with pulling reports."
"Making a GUI with criteria such as selection by robot/hub/probe etc."
"I would like to see auditability. We've built our own audit functionality to ensure that every CI has the desired model configuration applied to it. And we run that on a daily basis. If that became part of the product, I think it might be a little bit less intensive in terms of resource, because we're doing it with scripts."
"CA UIM needs some improvement with performance reporting (if we compare it to CA eHealth)."
"We had to do some work to make what was more of a business class solution work at an enterprise level."
"We want to see more investment in the UI and the dashboard."
"The biggest feature that I've been hoping they would enhance on is inventory management: things like adding/removing nodes."
"Technical support and releases are not particularly reliable."
"The root cause analysis and installation faults are not clear."
"SolarWinds NPM needs to increase its elements. One polling engine can only support 10,000 elements then it becomes slow. There are limitations even if you have the full SLX version license."
"Time: A worldwide deployment can be confusing for dispersed users with non-local times. Each node should have a local time (with summer offset if appropriate) & each user should view & report in their local time."
"Currently lacks integration with SMS services."
"The solution is not always good with new features, so it's take a long time."
"An area for improvement in SolarWinds NPM is the short retention period. Currently, it's just for seven days of data, which is very low, making it hard for my organization to keep that data. SolarWinds recommended a seven-day retention period, but my organization needs a fourteen-day data retention period. Hence, I'd like an increase in the retention period or the database limit in SolarWinds NPM because you can't go back to the data for any investigation if seven days have passed. Another area for improvement in SolarWinds NPM is the database, which needs to be a bit more mature. I want a modified database in the next release of SolarWinds NPM. I'd also like more options added to groups because, currently, it's very limited."
"GUI needs improvement with a more graphical dashboard."
