We performed a comparison between Check Point CloudGuard Network Security and Sophos Cyberoam UTM based on real PeerSpot user reviews.
Find out in this report how the two Unified Threat Management (UTM) solutions compare in terms of features, pricing, service and support, easy of deployment, and ROI."FortiGate firewalls are easy to manage through a user-friendly web interface. They also have advanced features like DDoS and DLP. However, I wouldn't recommend enabling all of these features on one device because it can cause performance issues."
"The most valuable feature of this solution is Quota."
"Good performance, stability, and virtual domain ability."
"The UTM feature is quite good. FortiAP is easy to deploy because both Fortigate and FortiAP are under the same brand. Otherwise, you need to do more work on the configuration."
"It's super reliable. I don't think I've ever had a reliability issue with it."
"It's very easy to configure."
"We use the FortiGate Sandbox to detect zero-day vulnerabilities, such as anomalies or malware, that are unknown and have not yet been discovered."
"Whenever I need something, Fortinet improves and updates the software for me."
"The tool's most valuable feature is its scalability. You will only have to pay less for scaling up. Its notable benefit is deployment complexity. Regional deployment is simpler compared to on-premise setup."
"SSL/TLS traffic inspection features are used for advanced threat prevention against secure SSL traffic."
"The multiple virtual firewalls on one box are extremely useful and the interconnection with virtual switches is simple and easy to understand."
"It makes securing our cloud workload super easy, and we are able to push any sort of policy changes we need pretty quickly"
"Advanced check prevention is a great feature that provides threat intelligence at speed."
"We have complete visibility of attacks originating from email including spear-phishing, spoofing, etc."
"The tool's most valuable features are IPS and blades. These features are valuable for security."
"Check Point CloudGuard Network Security has a beautiful threat emulation different from the market."
"I like the SSL VPN connection. Cyberoam works well for controlling users and authenticating their connection to the internet."
"It is a VPN that serves all your needs as an application firewall."
"The tool's robust features allow for the customization of policies, objects, and firewall settings."
"The dashboard is very good-looking and offers maximum features. If a customer's website has a problem, we can guide them over the phone because they can easily find the specific option on the dashboard. That's why we suggest buying Sophos."
"User and network policies to be managed on a single screen with powerful filtering and search options."
"The product has helped control bandwidth utilization, as well as enhanced connectivity and security to remote locations."
"I find Sophos Cyberoam UTM very good. I like the feature of being able to block off Mac IDs that host users. For example, you have a Mac or Windows laptop and you created a hotspot. Other devices like mobiles and tablets e.g. iPads connected to that hotspot. We can block those devices that connected to the hotspot we created, only through Sophos. It's a good feature we didn't find in other UTMs."
"I'm more inclined towards the conventional firewall. So for me, I'm more geared towards the standard firewall type functionalities as well as the web application firewall because that seems to work fine."
"Fortinet currently has many products bundled with FortiGate including the basic firewall and load balancer, and I think that that they need to have separate product portfolios for each of these specialized services."
"Fortinet FortiGate is a firewall solution and once it's deployed, you can rest assured that your system is secure."
"A couple of things I've seen that need improvement, especially in terms of a hard coding. The driver-level active moment really is out-of-the-box and we have to have contact the customer support and sometimes it is difficult to resolve."
"One area for improvement is the performance on the bandwidth demands for smaller devices, as well as better web filtering."
"Some of the software stability could improve."
"There is room for improvement related to the logging and reporting aspect."
"With the reports, you can see it, and you can get good feelings so upper management can go, "Oh, wow. That looks pretty." However, it's very basic."
"The central management for the FortiGate Fortinet Firewall needs improvement. They have the manager to do the essential management for both SD-WAN and for the security policy. They should also improve the SD-WAN function."
"People don't know about the tool's features. There's a lack of skill. Users require more knowledge on how to integrate it into the cloud environment and orchestrate routing. So, it's not necessarily a CloudGuard Network Security or Check Point issue but more about integration, knowledge, and understanding."
"CloudGuard Network Security could be improved in the area of upgrading in place."
"CloudGuard functions just like any other firewall. It functions very well. The only thing that could maybe be improved would be to integrate some tools that are not integrated with the SmartConsole, like the SmartView Monitor that we need to open on a different application to access."
"Check Point support, beyond CloudGuard, does need some improvement."
"Sometimes, if you aren't familiar with the solution, it can be a bit complex, but it does become easier to use with time. However, every time they launch a new version, it becomes more complex and you need to take time to get familiar with all the changes. For every version that they upgrade, you need to upskill yourself."
"The costs are high."
"Clustering in Azure is a bit different, not using the Check Point cluster but relying on load balancing. It's not as instant as I'm used to; in Azure, it might take around half a minute to a minute, and during this time, services could be down. The delay is attributed to Azure using its load balancing mechanisms instead of the Check Point cluster."
"The memory and hard disk capability could be strengthened."
"It is not a scalable product. This is because if you want to increase the capacity of the solution, then you have to change the device."
"The product needs to improve its pricing."
"I would say there's room for improvement in terms of the GUI. Because it is better than some of the other standard firewalls. They have the drag and drop features."
"The product’s pricing has increased by approximately 45% in four months. This particular area needs improvement."
"Cyberoam UTM needs to have more certifications with third-parties, such as NSS Labs."
"There is a lot or room for improvement, because it is still not a fourth or fifth generation firewall. It lacks security features."
"On-box sandstorm should be available. As of now, it is from their cloud."
"The blocking needs to be improved."
