We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"The ease of setting the solution up is a valuable aspect for us.""The simplicity of the product is great. It's very easy to use, which is a compliment we get all the time in terms of feedback.""The email protection and VPN features are the most valuable.""Fortinet FortiGate is stable. It's used across all the countries, this is the way most multinationals run their system.""I think that the UTM features are the most value, as it truly protects my infrastructure.""FortiGate firewalls are easy to manage through a user-friendly web interface. They also have advanced features like DDoS and DLP. However, I wouldn't recommend enabling all of these features on one device because it can cause performance issues.""The ability to set up remote systems is the most valuable feature.""I like Fortinet FortiGate's antispam filter, SPN, and clustering features."

"Cisco ASA works very nicely from an administration perspective. The management of the device is very nice. The ASDM (Adaptive Security Device Manager) is the software that we use and it is very easy to configure using the GUI.""The most valuable feature for the customers is that they can control what communication is allowed and what is not allowed. That is, they can allow or deny client traffic.""A powerful enterprise security solution that is dependible.""Integration with all the other Cisco tools is valuable.""Firewall help with cybersecurity resilience. I really like this Cisco product. It's user-friendly. I don't like some other vendors. I've tried those in the past. Cisco is pretty easy. A caveman could do it.""Technical support services are excellent.""We have multiple secure internal networks linked with our plants. We are from a oil company, so we have multiple plant areas which need to have restricted network access. Therefore, we are using it for restricting access to the plant area.""If configured, Firepower provides us with application visibility and control."

"Support is very helpful and responsive.""The scalability has not been a problem. We have deployed the product in very high bandwidth networks. We have never had a problem with the FireEye product causing latency issues within our networks.""Application categorization is the most valuable feature for us. Application filtering is very interesting because other products don't give you full application filtering capabilities.""The most valuable feature is the network security module.""The server appliance is good.""We see ROI in the sense that we don't have to react because it stops anything from hurting the network. We can stop it before we have a bigger mess to clean up.""If we are receiving spam emails, or other types of malicious email coming from a particular email ID, then we are able to block them using this solution.""The most valuable feature is the view into the application."

Cons
"I'm not sure if it's something that they already have or are developing something, however, we need some dedicated features for container security.""Fortinet FortiGate can improve the integration with Active Directory. Additionally, I would like to have a Cloud Controller, such as they do in the Cisco Meraki solution.""They are doing good, but they can improve the distributor assignment. The availability of the product and the timeline of delivery are the main things. The distribution should be swift, and the distributor should not reach out to end customers directly. They should work as a distributor. There should also be one more local distributor. Currently, there is only one distributor in Pakistan, and the rest of them are in UAE. It is difficult to work with only one distributor. Sometimes, you don't get along with the same distributor, and that's why they should have one more distributor. Their licensing should also be improved. The activation or renewal of the product should be done from the date of renewal, not from the date on which the license expired.""Its reporting can be improved. Sometimes, I don't get proper reports.""It needs more available central management.""The support we receive when we need to upgrade is not satisfactory and has room for improvement.""FortiOS is not simple.""We had some issues in the beginning while setting it up, but after doing the firmware update, it is working fine."

More Fortinet FortiGate Cons →

"Critical bugs need to be addressed before releasing the version.""If I need to download AnyConnect in a rush, it will prompt me for my Cisco login account. Nobody wants to download a client to a firewall that they don't own.""If you need to reschedule a call with the support team when you face a new issue with the product, then it may get a bit of a problem to get a hold of someone from the support team of Cisco.""It should have an additional “operating mode”, like a “candidate configuration mode”, where you would have the possibility to test the changes you are going to implement and also the possibility to validate these changes.""I would like more features in conjunction with other solutions, like Fortinet.""The ASA needs to incorporate the different modules you have to integrate to achieve UTM functions, especially for small businesses.""Cisco's inspection visibility could be better.""In Firepower, there is an ability to search and dig into a search, which is nice. However, I'm not a super fan of the way it scrolls. If you want to look at something live, it's a lot different. You're almost waiting. With the ASDM, where it just flows, you can really see it. The second someone clicks something or does something, you'll see it. The refresh rate on the events in Firepower is not as smooth."

More Cisco Secure Firewall Cons →

"Technical packaging could be improved.""It would be great if we could create granular reports based on the protocols, types of attacks, regions of attack, etc. Also we would like to easily be able to add exceptions to rules in cases of false positives.""It would be very helpful if there were better integration with other solutions from other vendors, such as Fortinet and Palo Alto.""Technical support could be improved.""It would be a good idea if we could get an option to block based upon the content of an email, or the content of a file attachment.""Cybersecurity posture has room for improvement.""A better depth of view, being able to see deeper into the management process, is what I'd like to see.""It is very expensive, the price could be better."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "Fortinet has one or two license types, and the VPN numbers are only limited by the hardware chassis make."
  • "These boxes are not that expensive compared to what they can do, their functionality, and the reporting you receive. Fortinet licensing is straightforward and less confusing compared to Cisco."
  • "Go for long term pricing negotiated at the time of purchase."
  • "Work through partners for the best pricing."
  • "The value is the capability of having multiple services with one unique license, not having the limitation per user licensing schema, like other vendors."
  • "Easy to understand licensing requirements."
  • "We saved a bundle by not needing all the past appliances from an NGFW."
  • "The cost is too high... They have to focus on more features with less cost for the customer. If you see the market, where it's going, there are a lot of players offering more features for less cost."

  • "I have to admit that the price is high. But I think it's worth it if the stability of your solution counts for you."
  • "It has a great performance-to-price value, compared to competitive solutions."
  • "Spec the right hardware model and choose the right license for your needs."
  • "Everything with Cisco is expensive. My advice is that there are a lot better options out in the market now."
  • "To discuss with Cisco Systems or their partners to gain the optimal price and to not consider, without verifying, the false information that Cisco ASA is very expensive."
  • "Cisco devices are for sure costly and budget could be an important constrain on selecting them as our security solution."
  • "Price point is too high for features and throughput available."

  • "Pricing and licensing are reasonable compared to competitors."
  • "The pricing is a little high."
  • "Because of what the FireEye product does, it has significantly decreased our mean time in being able to identify and detect malicious threats. The company that I work with is a very mature organization, and we have seen the meantime to analysis decrease by at least tenfold."
  • "There are some additional services that I understand the vendor provides, but our approach was to package all of the features that we were looking to use into the product."
  • "We're partners with Cisco so we get a reasonable price. It's cheaper than Palo Alto in terms of licensing."
  • "FireEye is comparable to other products, such as HX, but seems expensive. It may cause us to look at other products in the market."
  • "When I compare this solution to its competitors in the market, I find that it is a little expensive."
