Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"We have been able to quickly create models for our enterprise-wide databases, even when some of them are third-party databases.""One of the valuable features is inheritance when joining tables. When setting up RI and domains and rules, ER/Studio does a lot of the grunt, boilerplate code that would otherwise have to be hand-coded.""Developing new dimensional models; for the data we're hosting, dimensional modeling is more useful.""Modeling with Data Architect: We can quickly reverse-engineer a database from an existing database or create a model from scratch.""Valuable features include the ability to visually represent what the database tables are going to look like and their relationships. Also, the ability to document the definitions of the tables and the columns that are in a table so that we can communicate what the data is and how it should be used.""We use the solution to create data models which describe our company's data architecture""When validating the model, the ability to provide sub-models to developers, and generate a physical model from the logical, makes it easier to review a logical model with stakeholders.""We can track changes to our data models and tie those changes back to specific tasks or efforts that we identify."

"Auto-complete is the best feature of the solution.""I found all features valuable and necessary in Toad Data Modeler, particularly how good the solution is for modeling, database schema generation, and database re-engineering. I also found Toad Data Modeler straightforward to use.""It is not feasible for small businesses. It is not used in a small company."

Cons
"I would like to upload, a database with about 3,000 tables. It takes so much time and, finally, it freezes the whole solution so that I actually cannot work with that environment. For the data warehouse, it's fine because I have 20 or 30 tables. It works fine. But, when I reverse-engineer the database with 3,000 tables, it freezes and it's hard to upload and reverse-engineer such environments in ER/Studio.""Sometimes our version is a little unstable. But I think this problem occurs because our version is old.""The visual presentation is a little too colorful and seems that it is dumbed down.""The screens are a bit outdated. They could use a new look and feel.""The number of options can be overwhelming at times. That is not necessarily a bad thing but for a newbie, it can be daunting.""The solution could be sped up, as it is a little slow (e.g., when it's doing its database compare).""We did have a big issue when we upgraded to the 2016 version. The Team Server portion never did quite install correctly, and/or the database was corrupted, and we never figured it out.""It isn't easy to compare the thousands of tables in the model against the database. The tool should improve the synchronization within the large organization"

"The product should provide better debugging features.""It is not feasible for small businesses. It is not used in a small company.""Many users don't know how to add licensing to Toad, or where it is shown, so they could make that easier.""What could be improved in Toad Data Modeler is stability and the complex setup."
