We performed a comparison between Oracle Exadata and Vertica based on real PeerSpot user reviews.
Find out in this report how the two Data Warehouse solutions compare in terms of features, pricing, service and support, easy of deployment, and ROI."Oracle Exadata has very good hardware."
"Oracle is easy to use for peripheral things, such as the data vault and the data firewall, data sync, and partitions. These are the features that give an edge to other databases."
"It is a scalable solution."
"Compression is a great feature, where one can really save a lot of storage."
"Parallelism is the most valuable feature."
"It is the best solution for OLTP and data warehousing."
"Regarding features, there are so many that we can offer to customers. When we sell Exadata Cloud, there are many options to choose from, especially when it comes to enterprise database options. In my experience, the main features that are appreciated are various ones like GPS and the assortment of security options."
"Exadata's best features are its performance during redo logging and the elasticity of the database handling."
"The most valuable feature is Vertica's performance and the ease of using the database."
"We are able to integrate our Vertica data warehouse with Tableau to create numerous reports quickly and efficiently."
"The hardware usage and speed has been the most valuable feature of this solution. It is very fast and has saved us a lot of money."
"Partition and join back to node are easy and simple for DBAs."
"The most valuable feature of Vertica is the ability to receive large aggregations at a very quick pace. The use case of subclusters is very good."
"The solution is quick, has good compression data, and is not expensive."
"I like the projection feature, which increases query performance."
"Bulk loads, batch loads, and micro-batch loads have made it possible for our organization to process near real-time ingestions and faster analytics."
"Oracle Exadata could improve the platform performance tuning should be easier, automated, and user-friendly."
"Oracle Exadata compatibility with the analytics could be better and the OBIEE could improve. Oracle BI to Exadata needs to be improved. Even if the full analytics practice for Oracle should be improved and when compared with other solutions it is weak."
"The solution could always be more stable and more reliable."
"I have found Oracle Exadata to be scalable. However, you have to purchase more hardware, such as memory."
"The setup is a little bit complex. We would like to see the installation part get easier."
"The management monitoring tools are quite important and an area that needs some improvement."
"There is a feature for security, but it is not included in the first purchase of this solution. That means if you need to increase the security, you need to buy the security feature which doesn't come by default on these solutions."
"We have experienced some issues with processing unstructured data on Exadata. This is an important requirement for our AIML based use case. Reactive analytics data can not be prepared easily in Oracle Exadata."
"They could improve on customer service."
"The integration with AI has room for improvement."
"I would personally like to see extended developer tooling suited to Vertica – think published PowerDesigner SQL dialect support."
"It's hard to make it slow for a small data volume. For large volumes, it's hard to make it work. It's also hard to make it faster, and to make it scale."
"We are looking for a cheaper deployment for the solution. Although we did a lot of benchmarks, like Redshift. We tried Redshift, it didn't work. It didn't work out for us as well."
"Vertica seems to scale well, except for one use case where you are on a multi-node cluster. For example, if you had a nine-node cluster, one node goes down, then the eight nodes don't scale, because the absence of the node is very apparent, which is a problem. If you have nine nodes or multiple nodes, the whole idea is that if one of those nodes goes down, then you should not see an impact on the system if you have enough capacity. Even though we have enough capacity, you can still see the impact of the one node going down."
"In my opinion, Vertica's documentation could be improved. Currently, there is not enough documentation available to gain a comprehensive understanding of the platform."
"Support is an area where it could get better."
