We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"It reduces the time required to dynamically provide applications to our end users and developers.""It simplifies the management of our entire system.""Our data center rack space collapsed and our manpower decreased.""The guides that we use to install FlexPods are always up-to-date. This is really helpful, especially if there is a new product with NetApp moving so far forward and Cisco as well. For them to join together and update a centralized document for the install process, it is really good. It helps us understand if there are features from the first version that we installed while upgrading that we need to implement. Those are in the document. So, we find that document useful and helpful when moving forward.""The most valuable feature is that it is all-in-one, and it is easy to get support on it.""The most valuable feature is the ability to integrate different products into one validated design. That allows customers to understand and get the value out of the hardware, as it was designed.""It has never fallen out from under us when we were trying to do a critical push.""Everything is preconfigured. We can ship it and manage it remotely from any server. It is all in a box."

"The tool's most valuable features are stability and scalability.""The most valuable features of HPE ConvergedSystem are scalability and resilience.""Most of the HP products I come across are they are easy to install. That's not very complex.""This solution is very simple to use.""Consolidation and duplications features.""The flexibility is the most advantageous aspect of the solution. Our system has a very big environment. Due to this, the replication and backup operation is not an easy task. We prefer HPE SimpliVity modules in our environment, even when we have some different cases in operations.""The user interface, reporting, and management are good, and we are quite happy with the performance.""We find the deduplication and compression features to be most valuable, as well as that of the backup solution inside."

Cons
"If you have expertise setting up such environments, then you are good, but for customers or novices, it becomes a nightmare and stuff may actually be left out.""Hyper-V is not as well supported by NetApp and Cisco as VMware is, which is something that should be improved.""The networking configurations with UCS need improvement.""Unified management would be really nice, having one a single pane of glass to manage everything do with the solution.""Compatibility issues with replication. The Oracle table formats were not working and storage replications did not work as well, until we had to introduce other components to make it work.""It would be helpful if they sold a pre-boxed option so that you can buy a rack and everything's already there, everything's connected.""You must build each block separately, that's a disadvantage sometimes.""The continued simplification will be a continued battle and evolution for both Cisco and NetApp, especially on the FlexPod product."

More FlexPod XCS Cons →

"The solution needs to add NFS features.""I would like to see better manageability and integration with third-party tools.""The solution has a complicated front-end.""HPE ConvergedSystem needs to improve its management. I would like the tool to add cloud management features so that the system can be accessed anywhere from the cloud.""The tool has shortcomings in its performance monitoring part.""I would like to see monitoring solutions included, as well as brand support.""It could be enhanced by improving the built-in backup solution.""Pricing is an area of concern in the solution where improvements are required."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "Pricing and licensing is very affordable from a FlexPod perspective."
  • "It seems very cost effective once it's in place, and it's easy to expand and easy to add capacity without a lot of extra money."
  • "If your company really needs to be up 100% of the time, and you need to do a private data center, I don't know if I could realistically actually recommend another blueprint."
  • "Anytime that you are buying any storage make sure you understand storage. Do not just buy storage based on what somebody sells you in terms of IO or throughput."
  • "Buy storage based on the solutions you need, the technologies you need, and what will make your life a lot easier down the road."
  • "As a whole, it is inexpensive, and it uses the least amount of parts."
  • "Storage is very expensive. To buy MIC cards and additional storage either on-prem or in the cloud, the IT department does not have money for it, so you need a more niche product or a more flexible way to store your data. That is the benefit that you get from this product."
  • "We purchased the solution through CDW. They are a partner and knowledgeable."
  • More FlexPod XCS Pricing and Cost Advice →

  • "Pricing is good. We have not calculated what hyper-converged infrastructure has brought us but I think there has to be some lower cost for us, compared to the public cloud. Obviously, there would be a lower cost, probably by more than half."
  • "This is an expensive system and not every customer has the kind of budget to support it."
  • "The pricing is sensitive."
  • "This is an expensive solution."
  • "My company has a five year contract for HPE ConvergedSystem. The contracts depend on companies and sometimes it can be three years. The solution is worth its price."
  • "There are some extra costs in addition to the licensing costs for the yearly maintenance from professional third-party services."
  • "The tool's licensing costs are yearly."
  • "The pricing is competitive. Not a major problem. We have a subscription model."

The announcement of Gartner’s latest Magic Quadrant on Integrated Systems (read hyper convergence) has put Nutanix as the leader of the pack as of August 2015. Clearly, many of us get caught up because it is the “greatest feeling in the world”. However, this faux feeling is not reality because there are many factors that made the pack leaders in the Magic Quadrant (MQ). First of all, the MQ is about market perception. There is no doubt that the pack leaders in the Leaders Quadrant have earned their right to be there. Each company’s revenue, market share, gross margin, company’s profitability have helped put each as leaders in the pack. However, it is also measured by branding, marketing, market perception and acceptance and other intangible factors. Secondly, VMware EVO: Rail has split the market when EMC has 3 HC solutions in VCE, ScaleIO and EVO: Rail. Cisco wanted to do their own HC piece in Whiptail (between the 2014 MQ and 2015 MQ reports), and closed down Whiptail when their new CEO came on board. NetApp chose EVO: Rail and also has the ever popular FlexPod. That is why you see that in… Read more →
