We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"The app protection feature is one of the most valuable because it provides good security, as nobody is going to be able to look into your screen while you are sharing the screen. And if someone has installed a keylogger in your system, your keystrokes will be jumbled up and they would not make any sense to the keylogger. App protection is one of the coolest security features that I have encountered on any platform.""XenDesktop has helped our users to work remotely with a better user experience.""We can provide tons of applications with different settings, behaviors, and operating systems. It is the same way for the user. Then, we are totally transparent for the user to use a lot of totally different applications, which is the most important part of Citrix today.""It is a stable solution. We don't usually have problems with the platform...It is a very scalable solution.""The initial setup is easy.""It has improved delivering applications to remote locations with its lower bandwidth utilization.""Citrix Virtual Apps is the most valuable feature. Many customers use this feature to publish only applications, and not the full desktop. They can publish the internal resource or allow the end-user to reach a site or an application without having the full desktop. That's why they love this feature. It helps them save on resources.""The only thing that is really important for me is being able to connect from wherever I am. It is important for me because sometimes I am in places where there are not enough safe conditions to be able to work safely, in terms of security and confidentiality of my data. Being able to access internal resources from a secure platform allows me to work without fearing that my data has been stolen."

"The solution is seamless and easy to use.""The solution's most valuable feature is low bandwidth consumption. It helps to improve user experience.""It has improved our business because now we can run applications and it's easier for our students to do their exams.""Great for desktop management, particularly when it comes to all the upgrades.""VMware Horizon View is an easy-to-use solution.""The initial setup is pretty straightforward.""Ability to log in from anywhere and from a variety of devices.""It is easy to maintain."

Cons
"If anything could be improved, it might be some of the Director functionality, and some of the dashboard customization, or the overall Director customization.""Where improvement could be driven is in terms of clarity as to the functionality of some of the solutions. If you go back to the older Citrix Xen products that we had, we understood those really well. As we've come into the new workstation premium suite, there is a lot of additional functionality that we perhaps have not yet fully exploited. It is not because we can't, but simply because we don't yet understand the depth of functionality that's offered.""The support offered by Citrix's partner needs to improve. The partner support platform should aim to provide more technical information to users.""There are many latency and slowness issues, which are things looked after by Citrix.""I think they can improve the troubleshooting to make it easier for users to solve problems on their own. For example, it could provide an error code and some instructions on how to reconnect to the database or do something proactive to fix the issue with the system.""The sales team does not focus on client needs but instead focuses on selling higher-priced items.""There is room for improvement on the hypervisor side, providing better integration between the hypervisor and the product line. I suspect that they haven't put the work into that because of the move to the cloud. They want everything to be cloud-hosted. But for folks like us, who will always be a hybrid model, that's of some concern.""I would like to see simplification in the management of the on-prem infrastructure component of Citrix DaaS, particularly in the studio tool used to manage the DaaS infrastructure."

More Citrix DaaS (formerly Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops service) Cons →

"In VMware Horizon View, app volume is an area of concern where improvements are required.""Horizon View could be more stable.""Sometimes, the protocol itself gets a bit laggy. If you have less than optimal switching and routing, it can get kind of laggy.""VMware Horizon View can improve by making it easier to use for first-time users. You should learn the whole concept of VMware to be able to use it.""In the area of automation, there are some improvements needed in the solution.""Technical support could be better and faster.""The initial setup was complex, and you need system experience to walk through it.""The solution is quite expensive. They should work to lower the costs if possible."

I think VMware Horizon View is a very solid product.

I think it is the most mature product on the whole spectrum. All virtual desktop environments require tuning for performance. Depending on the size of the company you don't need 1/10 of the bells & whistles that the vendors include. For example, I have a small environment - 70 employees. I don't use instant clones, personas, their analysis tools, ... Not only are they expensive (the tools) they overly complicate a complicated process. KISS.

I have honed down the environment to what is just needed. Most of the industry will tell you otherwise. And I do all this as a one-man IT department.

    Reviews from Real Users

VMware Horizon View stands out among its competitors for a number of reasons. Several major ones are its flexibility, powerful performance, and virtualizing capabilities.

David G., a systems engineer at a tech services company, writes, “This product is great for desktop management. It enables you to update one golden image, save it and basically deploy it... It makes management a lot easier. There's also the huge savings. We've (used) it with the pandemic because everybody had to work from home. Even if there weren't enough laptops to go around, almost everybody has a home computer. It was just a matter of installing Horizon on your home computer and connecting to the office using two-factor authentication. They made it really simple.”
