We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"Sentinel has features that have helped improve our security poster. It helped us in going ahead and identifying the gaps via analysis and focusing on the key elements.""Another area where it is helping us is in creating a single dashboard for our environment. We can collect all the logs into a log analytics workset and run queries on top of it. We get all the results in the dashboard. Even a layman can understand this stuff. The way Microsoft presents it is really incredible.""The log query feature has been the most valuable because it's very good. You can put your data on the cloud and run queues from Sentinel. It will do it all very fast. I love that I don't have to upload it to an Excel file and then manually look for a piece of information. Sentinel is much faster and is good for big databases.""The UI of Sentinel is very good and easy to use, even for beginners.""Mainly, this is a cloud-native product. So, there are zero concerns about managing the whole infrastructure on-premises.""We’ve got process improvement that's happened across multiple different fronts within the organization, within our IT organization based on this tool being in place.""The initial setup is very simple and straightforward.""I like the KQL query. It simplifies getting data from the table and seeing the logs. All you need to know are the table names. It's quite easy to build use cases by using KQL."

"We do consulting and I get feedback from our clients that the product really helped them with compliance, especially with GDPR.""When WannaCry attacks I can minimize the damage. My company had no protection at the time. We get alerts in ArcSight and then whenever a user got a copy of WannaCry and the WannaCry malware wants to connect to the mother ship, it alerts me in the ArcSight dashboard, and that helps us a lot. We then just go to the user and erase the malware.""We have been satisfied with the support.""The product is quite mature. It's been around for a long time.""The user interfaces are quite good and speedy.""Some of the benefits of using this solution are rapid correlation and near-time response on alerts.""It makes maintenance very easy.""Stable solution with good customer service support."

"The out of the box reports and dashboard. It was easy to trim down these windows to something we could quickly use.""The most valuable feature of SolarWinds Security Event Manager is the analysis and the knowledge about the incidence that we trace.""The most valuable feature of this solution is the visibility into both attempted and failed logins.""Some of the rules are most valuable because you can be notified about various things, such as spyware or things that are going on in the internal network.""The most valuable feature is the reporting.""We did previously use a different solution, but SolarWinds is much better. It's easy to interact with SolarWinds. It's easy to operate, easy to configure and is generally easier compared to what we were working with before.""It has in-depth monitoring capabilities and an easy way for setting up dashboards. I can expand in various areas, or I can reduce areas. It supports different types of breakdowns, filters, and rules. It is very simple for an out-of-the-box type of product. It doesn't take a lot of time to figure it out, which is unlike some of the solutions that I have looked at. It meets all the aspects.""It's easy to build rules and actions based on the logs and event types we collect with the software."

Cons
"In terms of features I would like to see in future releases, I'm interested in a few more use cases around automation. I do believe a lot of automation is available, and more is in progress, but that would be my area of interest.""The solution could improve the playbooks.""They only classify alerts into three categories: high, medium, and low. So, from the user's point of view, having another critical category would be awesome.""The AI capabilities must be improved.""I would like to be able to monitor applications outside of the Azure Cloud.""Sometimes, it is hard for us to estimate the costs of Microsoft Sentinel.""It would be good to have some connectors for third-party SIEM solutions. Many customers are struggling with the integration of Azure Sentinel with their on-premise SIEM. Microsoft is changing the log structure many times a year, which can corrupt a custom integration. It would be good to have some connectors developed by Microsoft or supply vendors, but they are not providing such functionality or tools.""Currently, the watchlist feature is being utilized, and although there have been improvements, it is still not fully optimized."

More Microsoft Sentinel Cons →

"I am having issues with report generation with older versions. I don't know if this is because of compatibility issues, but report generation has been a little bit difficult in older versions. It is not similar to the newer and current versions. We are looking at moving to the cloud. It would be good if ArcSight ESM can move to the cloud. They already seem to be working on this. It would also be very helpful and great if we can integrate external threat intelligence, machine learning, and AI into this solution. It has good dashboards, but they can always be better. Its stability can also be improved.""They also could improve the product by integrating user and identity behavior analytics.""The roadmap is not clear.""The security area has room for improvement.""ArcSight ESM could improve by adding more features and documentation. There needs to be more documentation.""The centralized dashboard for the hybrid cloud environment needs to be more focused. It needs to be redefined because it's missing most of the information. It should be a little bit easy to use. Currently, integration with various applications and connectors is not that easy. Deployment is easy, but integration is not that easy. ArcSight also has a very high bandwidth consumption to pull the local servers. It should have some kind of better process or ability to transfer files from on-premises to the cloud, from the cloud to on-premises, and from a cloud to another cloud.""ArcSight ESM needs to improve performance, user interface, and automation.""In certain cases, this product does have false positives, which the company should work on."

More ArcSight Enterprise Security Manager (ESM) Cons →

"The company had to use a third party for the implementation of the solution.""One of the drawbacks of being so flexible is that it is also a fairly complicated software application to install, configure, and maintain.""It is a very technical program. They can simplify it so that it isn't so hard to deal with.""It can be difficult for users who are inexperienced with the solution.""I imagine we will have to develop our own reports soon, this seems to be more cumbersome.""The reporting could be more robust. It can be a lot more granular and that will make it a lot more useful in comparison to how it is incorporated at the moment.""There are no multiple dashboards which would allow you to see information side-by-side.""We used the support from SolarWinds Security Event Manager and they are knowledgeable but challenging to get in contact with them."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "It comes with a Microsoft subscription which the customer has, so they don't have to invest somewhere else."
  • "It is a consumption-based license model. bands at 100, 200, 400 GB per day etc. Azure Sentinel Pricing | Microsoft Azure"
  • "Good monthly operational cost model for the detection and response outcomes delivered, M365 logs don't count toward the limits which is a good benefit."
  • "I have had mixed feedback. At one point, I heard a client say that it sometimes seems more expensive. Most of the clients are on Office 365 or M365, and they are forced to take Azure SIEM because of the integration."
  • "It is kind of like a sliding scale. There are different tiers of pricing that go from $100 per day up to $3,500 per day. So, it just kind of depends on how much data is being stored. There can be additional costs to the standard license other than the additional data. It just kind of depends on what other services you're spinning up in Azure, or if you're using something like Azure log analytics."
  • "I am just paying for the log space with Azure Sentinel. It costs us about $2,000 a month. Most of the logs are free. We are only paying money for Azure Firewall logs because email logs or Azure AD logs are free to use for us."
  • "Sentinel is a bit expensive. If you can figure a way of configuring it to meet your needs, then you can find a way around the cost."
  • "Azure Sentinel is very costly, or at least it appears to be very costly. The costs vary based on your ingestion and your retention charges."

  • "HPE ArcSight pricing might be more expensive than other SIEM solutions, but in my opinion it has powerful features and great flexibility in developing complex use cases."
  • "ArcSight is pretty expensive compared with its competitors. I believe that is fine as it provides value."
  • "Aggregation can help a lot in pushing down licensing costs."
  • "It is best to be an institutional buyer and directly contact the sales team, as they can provide over-the-top discounts for bulk orders."
  • "Thanks to Micro Focus's licensing model, as an MSSP, we are able to see a complete return on our investment almost immediately."
  • "Customers without a ton of resources to dedicate to deployment may be better served by a managed ArcSight service."
  • "The pricing is great compared to others."
  • "The cost of the solution is not very high, although hiring a qualified analyst to work with the product is expensive."

  • "Licensing is on devices, so if you have many, then this may be high."
  • "We do a yearly license renewal. For a year, the solution costs roughly $500,000 USD. There are no costs beyond this yearly fee."
  • "The pricing model would benefit from having package deals with other SolarWinds products."
  • "Licenses can only be purchased in blocks of fifty at a time."
  • "It is in the appropriate mid-range. It is not as expensive as some of the other solutions. It is also not cheap."
