We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"There are some very powerful features to Sentinel, such as the integration of various connectors. We have a lot of departments that use both IaaS and SaaS services, including M365 as well as Azure services. The ability to leverage connectors into these environments allows for large-scale data injection.""I've worked on most of the top SIEM solutions, and Sentinel has an edge in most areas. For example, it has built-in SOAR capabilities, allowing you to run playbooks automatically. Other vendors typically offer SOAR as a separate licensed solution or module, but you get it free with Sentinel. In-depth incident integration is available out of the box.""Log aggregation and data connectors are the most valuable features.""The most valuable features are its threat handling and detection. It's a powerful tool because it's based on machine learning and on the behavior of malware.""The UI-based analytics are excellent.""It has a lot of great features.""Sentinel pricing is good""The solution has features that helped improve the security posture of our clients. It provides the ability to correlate a large variety of log sources very cost-effectively, especially for Microsoft sources."

"Customization. ArcSight gives you a platform to on-board out-of-the-box devices with a more accurate way of collecting desired logs/events.""It has absolutely improved the efficiency of our security team. We use it internally as well. It is such a powerful tool that our internal security team became a customer of our ArcSight managed service.""The most important feature is ArcSight's event correlation capabilities. It's powerful and easy. I also like the flex connector capability. It's easy to develop a new connector that isn't fully supported out of the box. For example, say you created a solution internally that's completely different, and it's not unsupported by the solution. You can write your own connector using the flex connector.""The tool sends an automated mail to all the operators, which makes it easy to share the information and reporting.""We do consulting and I get feedback from our clients that the product really helped them with compliance, especially with GDPR.""We utilize ArcSight ESM for real-time threat detection in our organization. We have custom rules that we've developed on top of the WAN services, along with scheduled licensing activities.""Stable solution with good customer service support.""The webpage algorithm is the most valuable feature because it was the fastest feature for searching the logs, events, and correlation."

"My favorite example of improving of organization is saving a $60k/mo in payroll fraud and $10k/mo in wasted API credits by using simple searches and clear reports.""I have found the installation can be of medium difficulty to very complex depending on the use case.""I like Splunk's data aggregation and search capabilities.""Splunk allows us to customize processing and dashboards, which helps us take care of our customers' needs.""The scalability is good.""It has a big user base, so the community is useful.""The SIEM is the most valuable feature of the product.""The scalability of the solution is amazing because it can collect a lot of data and you can have your own structure to monitor this data."

Cons
"The learning curve could be improved. I am still learning it. We were able to implement the basic features to get them up and running, but there are still so many things that I don't know about all its features. They have a lot of features that we have not been able to use or apply. If they could work on reducing the solution's learning curve, that would be good. While there is a training course held by Microsoft to learn more about this solution, there is a cost associated with it.""Improvement-wise, I would like to see more integration with third-party solutions or old-school antivirus products that have some kind of logging capability. I wouldn't mind having that exposed within Sentinel. We do have situations where certain companies have bought licensing or have made an investment in a product, and that product will be there for the next two or three years. To be able to view information from those legacy products would be great. We can then better leverage the Sentinel solution and its capabilities.""One key area that can be improved is by building a strong integration with our XDR platform.""Microsoft should improve Sentinel, considering that from the legacy systems, it cannot collect logs.""The product can be improved by reducing the cost to use AI machine learning.""Currently, the watchlist feature is being utilized, and although there have been improvements, it is still not fully optimized.""There is some relatively advanced knowledge that you have to have to properly leverage Sentinel's full capabilities. I'm thinking about things like the creation of workbooks, how you do threat-hunting, and the kinds of notifications you're getting... It takes time for people to ramp up on that and develop a familiarity or expertise with it.""The only thing is sometimes you can have a false positive."

More Microsoft Sentinel Cons →

"Customer service during the transition from HPE to Micro Focus was abysmal where it became disruptive to our service delivery.""There are several improvements that we would like to see, including: Building a system based on a log collection (SOC), a scenario for external encroachment, and Operator training.""The correlation engine effectively connects different events, significantly improving our detection reach. However, limitations exist with non-default alerts, where additional costs arise for integration.""The UI interface is somewhat complex and needs to be simplified.""It would be nice if the interface were more user-friendly, with, for example, a minimal number of tabs to navigate.""The weakness in this system comes about because, with so many different logs, it is possible that the security analyst will lose information.""ArcSight ESM could improve the alerts for the storage capacities or actions.""The first limitation is with the ArcSight Data Storage Manager (ADSM). ArcSight's total capacity is currently capped at 12 TB. This becomes an issue if a customer needs a longer real-time data retention period, such as exceeding 90 days or reaching a year or even ten months. Increasing the disk space beyond 12 TB is not currently possible."

More ArcSight Enterprise Security Manager (ESM) Cons →

"We find that the maintenance process could be a lot better.""Its interface and usability can always be improved.""Their technical support sucks.""I love the solution, but I would like to see more accessibility to the machine-learning capabilities that are sprinkled around Splunk.""I find that the learning curve for Splunk is relatively lengthy.""An improved user interface along with multi-tenancy support would be beneficial.""Technical support needs to be more responsive.""Sometimes the communication with support happens with multiple staff. They should reduce the time to resolution."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "It comes with a Microsoft subscription which the customer has, so they don't have to invest somewhere else."
  • "It is a consumption-based license model. bands at 100, 200, 400 GB per day etc. Azure Sentinel Pricing | Microsoft Azure"
  • "Good monthly operational cost model for the detection and response outcomes delivered, M365 logs don't count toward the limits which is a good benefit."
  • "I have had mixed feedback. At one point, I heard a client say that it sometimes seems more expensive. Most of the clients are on Office 365 or M365, and they are forced to take Azure SIEM because of the integration."
  • "It is kind of like a sliding scale. There are different tiers of pricing that go from $100 per day up to $3,500 per day. So, it just kind of depends on how much data is being stored. There can be additional costs to the standard license other than the additional data. It just kind of depends on what other services you're spinning up in Azure, or if you're using something like Azure log analytics."
  • "I am just paying for the log space with Azure Sentinel. It costs us about $2,000 a month. Most of the logs are free. We are only paying money for Azure Firewall logs because email logs or Azure AD logs are free to use for us."
  • "Sentinel is a bit expensive. If you can figure a way of configuring it to meet your needs, then you can find a way around the cost."
  • "Azure Sentinel is very costly, or at least it appears to be very costly. The costs vary based on your ingestion and your retention charges."

  • "Aggregation can help a lot in pushing down licensing costs."
  • "It is best to be an institutional buyer and directly contact the sales team, as they can provide over-the-top discounts for bulk orders."

  • "Customers without a ton of resources to dedicate to deployment may be better served by a managed ArcSight service."
  • "The pricing is great compared to others."
  • "The cost of the solution is not very high, although hiring a qualified analyst to work with the product is expensive."
