We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"The feature that I have found the most valuable is that IBM Spectrum Protect is highly integrated with IBM ESS. In addition, it allows us to back up our virtual servers directly to take VM snapshots. It runs on Linux as well.""They have recently added support tickets specifically engineered around performance. This has been very useful for us when we run into issues where customers are looking to try to squeeze a lot more horsepower out of older system.""It scales well for the amount of clients that we use with it.""Enterprise-wide type of architecture supports a lot of different platforms.""Scalability, performance, mass platform coverage. It's one of the few backup products on the market right now which an organization can bring in and it will serve all of their backup needs. It's a completely centralized solution.""The most valuable features of Spectrum Protect would be the compression and the deduplication.""We can freeze and start databases for consistent backups.""With Spectrum Protect, you can use any type of disk to back-end the repositories. It gave us flexibility to use whatever storage we wanted at our secondary site."

"If you have an idea of what you are doing, it's very flexible and very stable.""Data Protector's GUI is the most useful feature.""Micro Focus Data Protector's most valuable feature is its interaction with the fiber share. It is easy to use, we use it to back up without any problem to VTLs, and can use the Fiber Channel that is still the TCP.""The file system backup (by far, the most used) is the most valuable feature.""The dashboards in Micro Focus Data Protector are very good. They are similar to the dashboards in Veeam Backup & Replication.""Ability to automatically detect and secure new data sources without requiring manual configuration intervention.""I like that it supports HPE UNIX servers since many backup solutions do not - this is the main reason why we chose this solution.""Data Protector is very good at automation. From the time of the backup, verification, and copy to tape, it is very good. I don't need to touch it, it will do it by itself."

Cons
"Most customers still struggle with the reporting piece, especially generating reports. I think it needs some improvements in this area.""The product’s recovery process in terms of agent installation needs improvement""It lacks reporting and an efficient alert mechanism. The GUI could also be improved.""It would be helpful if the solution included some sort of ransomware protection.""They need to reduce the complexity and make the learning curve easier.""It doesn't integrate with storage pools, with a normal pool. I'd like to see that.""It seems like they are a little behind on the integration to Azure Cloud as well as Amazon.""I would like to advance reporting and analytics for the platform to see how much data is coming into the platform. how much data is expiring everyday, and what tape savings we are getting through reclamation."

"In SAP restoration, we faced issues with changing the SIDs and changing the path for every backup object. It is quite a lengthy process to do that.""OpenText Data Protector is more difficult to use and configure than OpenText VIM. The user-friendliness of OpenText Data Protector has to be increased, and the complexity of the tool needs to be reduced.""Integration with the market applications must be improved, such as MS Exchange, MS Active Directory, SAP and Oracle. Other backup tools are more efficient with the integrated backups.""We faced some certification issues after we upgraded to version 10.2.""Faster VEAgent Restores""Microfocus needs to build a partnership with other vendors in addition to HPE as far as cloud consolidation of backups.""The GUI could be updated. The GUI hasn't changed since version 6. It's on version 10 now. The reporting could also be better. Also, while Data Protector is excellent for backing up physical hardware, it needs more features for backing up VM images because many environments use hypervisor.""In terms of what can be improved, I would say integrations with MongoDB. We use MongoDB and we need to go to scripts to do backups. We need more integrations."
