We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"I like the tool’s deduplication feature. We get a ratio of 9:1 for deduplication. The product is also Linux based. Last year, our organization faced some virus attacks. However, the backup was safe because of the product being a Linux version. HPE StoreOnce is a secure product.""The product’s data retention is very good.""The deduplication feature in this product is amazing.""The solution is stable.""I think the most valuable feature is the catalyst technology, which is in the StoreOnce appliance.""The initial setup is one of the most user-friendly B2B user solutions. It's good, it's easy. Deployment usually takes less than one day. You only need one person for deployment and maintenance.""The speed and deduplication ratio are two of the most valuable features of the solution.""The scalability is very good."

"The solution just works consistently. I never have issues with it.""The initial setup is very easy.""The granular restoration that it provides for a business application is most valuable. For example, for Exchange, we can restore a single mailbox or email. We can also do SQL Server restoration and bare-metal recovery for operating systems.""Instant Backup is an useful feature.""Veeam is easy to use.""A quick-working solution that is very user friendly.""One of the best things about Veeam is that they have consistently improved on themselves since they started. Personally, I've been using Veeam since around 2013/2014 when it was only supporting certain hypervisors such as HyperV, and since then it has become truly mature enterprise-level software with a lot of versatility.""The solution is quite stable."

Cons
"Hardware maintenance involves some downtime for backup destination storage which can be a problem for some.""The solution would be improved if it could also be used as a data store for VMware.""HPE StoreOnce should come with a detailed installation guide.""The setup phase is not so simple that an end user can plug and play to make it operational.""The user interface of HPE StoreOnce is an area of concern where improvements are required.""improvement? HPE StoreOnce has a limitation with respect to controllers. Other tools offer more than one controller. I feel that the high availability of the view controller should be redundant. The tool’s control and UI part should be improved and made more advanced. The feature that helps with the manual movement of tapes should also be improved.""The user interface of HPE StoreOnce should be more user-friendly. Additionally, the configuration and troubleshooting could be better.""This product would be improved with the inclusion of more features to security or WORM."

More HPE StoreOnce Cons →

"They have an integration with MS SQL, and you have to license MS SQL. This is something they need to change. They should go for an open-source database or a free SQL because you're already buying this product, and you shouldn't have to buy another product.""The tech support needs improvement.""I would like for them to develop the ability to fix the way it does backups. We can't pick a backup for one database. We have to do a backup on the whole Exchange VM. I'd like for them to change it to where we can do individual backups.""The ease of use could be improved, but I don't have a very deep amount of experience in Veeam, so it's difficult to say what could be improved.""We would like to see support for some additional storage systems.""There's a situation where VMs run on different locks. It's running on the VM while having a relationship with nearby solutions running on the same server and storage. This creates a bottleneck that needs to be eliminated.""It would be ideal if users could know that their data is backed up and have some security functionality where you can actually use the backup to spin up a new cluster and take it from there.""I would want them to improve some technical features that are still missing because we are working with NetApp NVMe and they're not fully supporting it yet. But both NetApp and Veeam know about it and they're working on it."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "The price puts me off. It's definitely on the high side."
  • "To be honest, we were quite happy with the price, but we always want things cheaper than they are. I think for what we got, we felt that the price was quite reasonable comparing it to other products that provide that same level of functionality."
  • "There are costs for additional storage and space."
  • "Price-wise, it comes with a high price tag when compared to other products."
  • "The cost of HPE StoreOnce is very expensive."
  • "We have got a perpetual license, and we have access to all the features. If you are using cloud banks, you can store the internal data in HPE Cloud if needed. You can offload the data to the HPE Cloud. It is a licensed product. We have got around 10 TB of cloud bank storage with a one-time payment. We specifically took 10 TB for very critical offsite backups. We can also increase it in blocks if needed."
  • "The licensing schemes could improve in HPE StoreOnce and the price is high. They should reduce the price."
  • "I think the product is competitive in terms of pricing. Other products like the one from Dell are costlier compared to the tool."

  • "If you have Exchange, Oracle, SQL, or a supported SAN, then I suggest getting at least an Enterprise edition. It’ll pay for itself in no time."
  • "The pricing and licensing is better than the competitors, but it could be better."
  • "Room for improvement is actually more in the way of licensing. The really good and useful features are in the Enterprise plus edition, and that one is really expensive."
  • "Since pricing is per socket, it is not expensive to add capacity as you go along."
  • "The licensing is based on the number of cores you have in your ESX or Hyper-V environment."
  • "The price is a bit high. Licensing type is VMware friendly, so it is easy."
  • "I think the price is good when you choose the Essentials Suite, but when you buy a full featured version (for instance the Enterprise Plus) the price is a little bit expensive."
  • "Setup cost and licensing of Veeam are nothing to complain about when compared to similar products for enterprise backup recovery solutions."

    Reviews from Real Users

Veeam Backup & Replication is a solution that stands out when compared to many of its competitors. Some of its major advantages are its ease of set up, the fact that it is agentless, and that it has an intuitive dashboard.

A Network Operations Manager at an educational organization says, "Integration with VMware is excellent with very granular recovery."

An Inside Solutions Architect at a tech services company mentions, “I like that it's agent-less, easy to set up, and hardware-agnostic.”

An Account Manager at a tech services company states, “The dashboard is very, very easy to understand. We do demonstrations all the time with customers just to show them. If they've lost particular files because of a server going down, we can retrieve those files for them and quickly bring those files back up.”

Kerem C., Director of Professional Services/Senior Solution Architect/Trainer at a tech services company, explains, “It's good for backup performance management and backup window management.”
