We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"It offers a wide range of testing.""I like the Help feature in UFT One. For example, if you are navigating a particular window, where there are different options. One wouldn’t know the purpose of every option, but there is no need to search because that window contains a Help button. If you click on that Help button, it directly navigates to the respective help needed. VBScript is very easy to understand and easy to prepare scripts with minimal learning curve.""Hidden among the kitchen sink of features is a new Data Generation tool called the Test Combinations Generator.""With certainty, the best feature of UFT is its compatibility with so many products, tools and technologies. It is a challenge currently to find a single tool on the market besides UFT that will successfully work for so many projects and environments. For example, UFT supports GUI testing of Oracle, PeopleSoft, PowerBuilder, SAP (v7.20), Siebel, Stingray, Terminal Emulator, Putty, and Windows Objects (particularly Dialog Boxes). Furthermore, UFT has the built-in functionality to import Excel input files.""Compared to other products, UFT One is better, faster, and more accurate.""I like the fact that we can use LeanFT with our UFT licenses as well.""The solution is easy to integrate with other platforms.""Has improved our organization by allowing us to obtain fast, detailed information about the behavior of our products and to supply this to the customer, enabling us to work together without the need for special programming knowledge."

"OpenScript has many features that make it useful, including the ability to record and playback.""The function test feature is valuable.""The most valuable features are functional testing and the central repository that contains various scripts.""The solution is scalable.""We like that we don't need a separate management tool. This is a good feature. It also has an inbuilt performance tool which is on Flash. It has very good record and playback feature as well. The inspection tool is also very good. Overall, since it comes with all the three packages, it's very good.""The most valuable feature is the object identification feature.""I like the functional testing. There's a product inside OATS called OLT, Oracle Load Testing. You can do the load testing without depending on any other tool""User friendly UI / Tree view to work with adding steps."

Cons
"One thing that confused me, and now just mildly irritates me, is that we migrated from QuickTest Pro to HP UFT, Unified Functional Test. After we did the migration, it turned out that we didn't really have Unified Functional Test at all.""Sometimes it appears that UFT takes a while to open and sometimes will run slower than expected. Also, UFT uses a lot of memory. On this note, if you are running UFT on a virtual server I would add more RAM memory than the minimum requirements especially when using multiple add-ins. HP is pretty good about coming out with new patches to fix known issues and it pays for the user to check for new patches and updates on a regular basis.""We'd like it to have less scripting.""Needs to improve the integration with the CI/CD pipeline (VSTS and report generation).""We used to run it as a test suite. Micro Focus provides that in terms of a test management tool as ALM, but when we think of integrating with a distributed version control system, like Jenkins, there isn't much integration available. That means we need to make use of external solutions to make it work.""I'd like to see test case-related reports included in the solution.""I'd like to see UFT integrated more with some of the open source tools like Selenium, where web is involved.""I would like Micro Focus to provide more information on their portal about their newer products. The information about UFT One was outdated. The image recognition features could also be better."

"Oracle Application Testing Suite does encounter some lag. When I am trying to record something, the tool gets stuck.""I have faced issues with some indexing items.""Licensing policies could be more intuitive.""I would like to see better dashboards.""The dashboards need to be simplified and made more user-friendly.""We would like to see the instruction documentation made into video or audio formats, to help new users get used to the modules.""To provide test automation support for other products like SAP, Windows and Java Applications when it comes to Functional Test Automation testing.""The pathfinding at times is slow when we are using it. The tool's performance can be improved."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "It took about five years to break even. UFT is costly."
  • "The licensing and pricing model is confusing."
  • "It's an expensive solution."
  • "For the price of five automation licenses, you simply would not be able to hire five manual testers for two years worth of 24/7 manual testing work on demand."
  • "The price is only $3,000. I don't know how many QA analysts you would have in any given company. Probably no more than five or 10. So if it's a large corporation, it can easily afford $15,000 to $25,000. I don't see that being an issue."
  • "The way the pricing model works is that you pay a whole boatload year one. Then, every year after, it is around half or less. Because instead of paying for the new product, you are just paying for the support and maintenance of it. That is probably one of the biggest things that I hear from most people, even at conferences, "Yeah, I would love to use UFT One, but we don't have a budget for it.""
  • "The pricing fee is good. If someone makes use of the solution once a day for a half hour then the fee will be more expensive. For continuous use and application of the solution to different use cases, the fee is average."
  • "The price is one aspect that could be improved."

  • "ORACLE is giving at a very competitive rates to all its customers, and its a simple licensing process."
  • "There are no costs in addition to the standard licensing fees."
  • "The price of the Oracle Application Testing Suite is not expensive. It is less expensive than other solutions."
  • "Customers need to negotiate properly to get the tool at a lower price."
  • "The complete package, including load testing and performance analysis, has a licensing fee."
