We performed a comparison between Hyper-V and VMware VSphere based on our users’ reviews in five categories. After reading all of the collected data, you can find our conclusion below.
Comparison Results: VMware VSphere is the winner in this comparison. It is easy to deploy, reliable, robust, and has excellent customer support. Hyper-V does come out on top in the pricing category, however.
"Hyper-V is much easier to deploy because Hyper-V is already installed inside Windows Server OS. You only need to turn on Hyper-V as a service, and then you can use it. The most convenient thing about Hyper-V is the operating system."
"The ease of use of Hyper-V is the most valuable feature."
"I value the simplicity of configuration because it has worked as expected for my client."
"It allowed us to add on servers and fix things in an expedient manner."
"It is definitely the toughest competitor for VMware. It easily increases memory for our virtual machines."
"Hyper-V integrates well with other Microsoft solutions."
"The most valuable feature of Hyper-V is the replica service."
"The organization has realized the benefits on smaller data center space, power, cooling, etc. apart from the benefit that the virtualization layer brings in."
"Valuable features really depend on different projects. We are using the traditional infrastructure based on VMware vSphere. We are also using the high availability (HA) and Distributed Switch features to extend our network and switch between different hosts. The VMotion and SVMotion features are very essential for us to relocate the storage of virtual machines to different storage or vSANs. We are using VMotion and SVMotion features several times of the day. We are also using another VMware product to replicate a lot of solutions to a second replication site."
"The solution has many valuable features. Virtualization is flexible and it has simple clustering. However, the most important feature is the ability to move between VMs. The vMotion features are very good."
"Stability and scalability are the most valuable features of this solution."
"There are no issues with the level of scalability you can achieve."
"It is a single pane of glass that lets you access your hosts and VMs."
"The scalability of the solution is good. You can scale up to maximum levels."
"VMware vSphere helps us in not wasting resources like we did when we were using physical servers. It changed our whole environment."
"It is very easy to use and very stable."
"We have our scientific network, and it's run off the university sever, and we need two servers to optimize our scientific work, such as the mathematics work. Then you have to work with Python and Java, and Microsoft isn't the best option for this kind of work"
"Hyper-V doesn't have a lot of features and is limited compared to other virtualization software."
"If I want to create a cluster of around five to 10 physical servers Hyper-V does not get integrated with any kind of virtual sense, such as vSense."
"Hyper-V could benefit with improvements to their management interface."
"Status and availability became an issue and need."
"It would be nice if they provided a free management console that we could use to manage all of the hosts for no additional fee."
"We would like to have a cloning function added to this product."
"I'd like to see better predictive diagnostics, so I know what's going on with the machines."
"They need to further develop graphics virtualization."
"We previously had a hard time using tech support."
"There was a time we lost the password for the ESXi and we had to do a hardware reset. At this point, we had to fill up the ESXi from the bottom up. I am not sure if there was another solution to this problem but it took a long time."
"There could be an inbuilt dashboard for reporting purposes."
"There are occasionally bugs or errors."
"There are some limitations with the solution regarding migrating."
"vSphere could perhaps be improved by more integration or better security."
"The installation is complex and you need to have a good understanding in regards to what you are doing when you are setting it up."
