We performed a comparison between Hyper-V and VMware VSphere based on our users’ reviews in five categories. After reading all of the collected data, you can find our conclusion below.
Comparison Results: VMware VSphere is the winner in this comparison. It is easy to deploy, reliable, robust, and has excellent customer support. Hyper-V does come out on top in the pricing category, however.
"There are some products that you can mount over Hyper-V that provide the features that, in today's Hyper-V, are not present."
"The initial setup was very easy."
"I think all of these improvements are going in a good direction. For me, its direction is good and I'm very satisfied with this product."
"The flexibility and API are the most valuable features. It helps us be able to integrate with other systems and then push data easily."
"The solution's technical support is the best."
"The restore function of the virtual server is valuable to me."
"The initial setup was straightforward. It was easy to install."
"It works very well. Its performance, stability, and redundancy are all very dependable."
"It is highly scalable. We can add new hardware and expand the infrastructure easily."
"This product is useful for running multiple virtual machines from a single server so that people can utilize the hardware resources in their organization. Its ability for backups is also valuable. In case of a disaster, you can recover the entire server from the images. It is easy to use. In terms of features, whatever they are providing is more than sufficient for us. We are not exploiting this product up to a hundred percent."
"Security-Features; vSphere does offer quite a bit of security stuff built-in. It is nice to know that we can have the virtual machines encrypted, so that if somebody were to get a hold of any of those files, we don't have to worry about them actually being used. Since we do have so many different departments and areas with a lot of people that need access into the solution, we can use the role-based access controls to really restrict and control who can do what, so everybody can do what they need to do, but they can't do anything else past that."
"I use customization to prevent any network and DNS collisions to the router."
"The solution is user-friendly. It is easy to convert, create, and manage systems."
"The most useful features are ESXi, DRS, Auto Deploy, and the Lifecycle Manager."
"Vmware vSphere is the benchmark of the visualization market."
"I have found the solution to be flexible, and the vCenter and vMotion useful."
"The product can be a bit difficult to use."
"There's room for improvement in Hyper-V. One area I've personally encountered issues with is live migration. Sometimes during live migrations, the process gets stuck in a certain state. This can happen with replication as well. It's not necessarily a major problem, but at times, the error messages aren't very informative. They don't clearly explain why the migration failed."
"I think there is room for improvement in terms of the cloud solutions."
"The only issues we have had recently are with Windows updates that are built into the Windows server with Hyper-V."
"There needs to be more functionality overall in the Hyper-V manager."
"There is a hard limitation of 20 gigs per file with Dropbox, so you've got to overcome that by chunking the zip files into something smaller and manageable."
"It would be nice if it was turned into its own product because that's the problem with it. It doesn't have a single place where you can manage things. You have to go into all different screens to be able to configure it. And then you have no idea what the performance is. It's really just a feature added to Windows, and Microsoft does not really have anything that pulls it all together well. Compared to VMware, it does not have everything collaborate on one screen."
"We've had many issues with Hyper-V's stability, including resource crunches and memory leakage."
"Customer support takes a long time to respond."
"I would like to see more support regarding containers, and they need more features for them."
"It would be great if VMware could have a consolidated way of delivering this as software rather than pieces and several add-ons so that you could enjoy the product in its entirety."
"I would like to start to using NSX in the next release."
"We stopped using a lot of cloud services. However, I see that VMware has integrated with Amazon Cloud. We will now to have to move everything to the cloud."
"The VMware vSphere app is faster, compared to its web-based client. The web-based client is very slow, freezes, and is challenging to use."
"I would like to see a little bit more visibility regarding errors. When an error does occur, there are times where it says "Unknown error" or something to that effect, and it doesn't necessarily give you a lot of metrics. If you go online and you give a description of it, normally the VMware forums can help you find out what it is, but I'd like to see a little bit more visibility from the software itself regarding what's going on: "This went wrong, this is why.""
"It would be great if the free version included a management tool that was a scaled-down vCenter Manager."
