Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"The monitoring is the solution's most valuable feature.""It is customer-centric. Customers can access the event list from their location or desktop and view the event. There is no need to go and connect to any other server and run events to have a view of all the events happening in the environment. We get a good response from customers about this feature and the main architecture of NetCool. Its processing is very good. Deduplication and correlation functionalities are good in this solution as compared to other solutions. A big advantage of NetCool is that it also supports multi-layered protocols. We can receive multiple events from different protocols like UDP, HTTP, and those events can be captured in NetCool.""The most valuable feature is the event management capability.""It is an easy-to-use solution.""Probes are the best feature because they are well written which rarely requires you to write additional rules. These probes monitor activity within your environment.""The biggest plus points for me are the configurability and scalability of the solution, as well as the multi-tenancy of the platform."

"We are able to do problem determination on runaway processes.""I like the historical reporting of observer metrics.""It can send messages to our ticketing system.""The most valuable feature is the extensibility, as there are really no limits as to what you can do with it.""The solution's reporting engine has given me detailed information on which applications or services I've either failed or about to fail in terms of the predictive makeup on Azure cloud.""It takes a lot of the headache out of managing your data centers and software in other places.""This solution helps our application teams by allowing them to drill further into issues and perform a root cause analysis.""The solution is used for monitoring the hardware inventory. For instance, it helps with the whole operational monitoring view for the company's infrastructure."

Cons
"The cost of the product is quite high. They should work to adjust their pricing models.""Its integration could be better. They should provide an easier integration for all the monitoring stuff, and it will make things easier for us. Currently, there is a complexity in integrating it with a vendor application, and we have to use another tool to integrate it with a vendor application. To integrate some applications with NetCool, I need to install an IBM tool on top of it. It would be good if they can provide an API or any kind of interface that we can leverage while developing a new protocol interface or application. We should be able to use an API or interface with NetCool. Its GUI can also be better. As compared to other tools, it is not user friendly, and it is not easy to do stuff through GUI. Whenever we do anything on the GUI, it takes time. They need to focus on the GUI part, especially the dashboard. They should focus on how users can effectively drill down from one box to another. The visual appeal of the dashboard is as important as the data and functionality.""The web portal and typical event controls are a little outdated.""I would like for the next release to be more user-friendly and out of date. The next release should focus on the cloud, AI, and ML technologies.""There should be an easier-to-understand model, more of a flat-structured model rather than different tiers of licenses which complicates licensing.""Its technical support team takes longer to reply."

"I would like to see more standard libraries for the market solutions, out of the box, that you don't need to do a lot of work on.""I would like to see better support for monitoring Unix-based systems.""The solution should be more user-friendly and offer a better user interface.""SCOM's feature that notifies us when a server is down is not present in recent updates, which has weakened the product.""The initial setup should be easier to complete.""Then there is also an issue with capacity and limited space. That is something that needs to be improved.""Application monitoring must be improved.""System Center just provided upgrade and update features for Windows clients, and Windows systems, and did not support Linux, Android, or iOS, and other operating systems. They need to provide better integration with other operating systems if they don't already."

    Reviews from Real Users

Below are some reviews and helpful feedback written by PeerSpot users currently using the SCOM solution.

A Manager at a financial services firm says, “The feature I like most about SCOM is that it is easy-to-use. I find it very user-friendly. I also like the knowledge base which it has. You can find the resolution to questions or issues directly within the SCOM itself. It will alert you with a recommendation of what you need to do at the same time. This sort of self-diagnosis or prompting is one of the great values you get from SCOM compared to other solutions.”

PeerSpot user Zahari Z., Information Technology Auditor at a financial services firm, mentions, “Availability monitoring is the feature I have found most valuable, as well as the capacity and ability to send notifications. There is a mechanism to set up a notification from the SCOM and whenever there is a drop in the availability the notification alerts not only for availability but for other issues as well. You can align thresholds according to the speed of your environment and you can have a threshold related notification, which is one of the useful features.”

Bill W., Sr. Systems Engineer at Arapahoe County Government, comments, “ I like some of their newer features, such as maintenance schedules, because SCOM records SLA and SLO time. When we patch, things are automatically put into maintenance mode so that the numbers for our systems being down, do not count against us.”

A Project Manager at a tech services company explains, “The feature I have found most valuable is the book feature. While we run the Sprint one we can add some setups for multiple sprints.”

A Systems Engineer at an educational organization states, “Because it's Windows-based, it actually reports quite well. It reports everything you can think of on the Windows server and allows you to monitor anything. It's excellent for those in the Windows world as it's very good at it.”
