Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"The best part of this solution is that it just works.""It has increased our security, scalability, and high availability.""Spectrum Protect's best feature is that I can use it practically anywhere, on any platform, and for any servers or clients.""Since the technology is reliable, it simplifies the backup process significantly. Now, our focus can primarily be on managing full backups and creating some offline copies.""It helps our customers protect their data, keep it long-term, and feel pretty secure about it, basically sleeping well at night.""One way they have improved our organization is through the stability of the solution and the availability of the product.""Forever incremental - allows TSM to optimize storage needs.""The scheduled backups ensure we meet the requirements for our business, and we keep backups of certain environments."

"The interface easy to use and it is compatible with most backup devices.""One of the valuable features is the instant recovery for VMs. It reduces the RTO (Recovery Time Objective) drastically.""The product makes it easy to restore data.""It gives us the ability to locate and restore critical files which users may have intentionally or unknowing deleted a while ago.""The implementation is straightforward.""This is a very flexible product, which allows you to back up not only the physical environment but also the cloud environment.""The product allows for versatile storage options, enabling users to store data on disk storage, NAS storage, or tape libraries.""Synthetic backup is valuable. It gives you the possibility to do a synthesized backup, which means that it combines a full backup and incremental backup data and gives it to you in one stream. So, you don't have to restore the full backup and then later go and restore the incremental backup. You can do that in one go."

Cons
"We would like to see cloud integration.""The product should be improved to save more space.""An area for improvement would be the ease of use - the GUI is not up to the mark compared to other products in the market.""I need to have more than two instances working together. I need a worldwide grid able to have replication between three, four, or five instances.""The version that we had when I first started made it look really bad. We are talking about commands that should have run in two seconds, but instead took four to eight hours. Other components were sluggish.""The initial setup is complex.""We did not see any drawbacks to IBM Spectrum Protect before assisting a customer using Windows that wanted to migrate to using UNIX. IBM Spectrum Protect does not offer an option to migrate from other operating systems.""The previous GUI that they had was slow, and it did not have enough information on it."

"The one thing which could be improved, which we have informed Veritas about, is the ability to plug in to the cloud. Meaning, instead of using local storage if we're backing up a small user or end user, we want to be able to make it so they can direct the backups directly to the cloud. It can't be done at the moment. We can only back up to the storage then replicate to the cloud, but we cannot use the cloud as a source of storage.""They can improve the reporting component. The reports aren't user-friendly at all. You have to download them to Excel to get statistics.""It is not a recommended software when it comes to large environments where there has to be a minimal Recovery Time Objective (RTO) and/or Recover Point Objective (RPO).""Veritas Backup Exec should be more user-friendly. The costs should also be much lower and it should be easier to go through the disaster recovery process.""Doesn't include disaster recovery.""The solution is too heavy and complex with 1,000 menus and options that make it messy rather than lightweight.""The EDR should be looked at, as the operating system is too weak.""They can work on the issue of the job timing out when it is unable to reach a selection item. It sometimes hangs up on the selection item, thus preventing the job from continuing."

    Reviews from Real Users

Below are some reviews and helpful feedback written by Veritas Backup Exec users.

An IT Network Analyst at a manufacturing company says, “The backup potential of the solution is very good. It's protected us in the past very well and allowed us to get up and running after an attack with minimal loss. As far as if we need to restore a file, the solution absolutely has improved the way our organization functions. It saves us a lot of time. We're backing up all of our servers with it.”

PeerSpot user Masoud G., Senior Network Administrator at MapnaBE, mentions, “I prefer to use a tape library and Veritas Backup Exec is fully compatible with different tape libraries. So I prefer this software. It also has easy user and file recovery.”

Kayode O., Chief Technology Officer at a tech company, explains, “This solution creates a differential backup to reduce storage requirements. This solution is not complex and you do not have to be too technical to use it. Veritas offers granular restore, which is an option that many other solutions do not have. It allows you to restore, for example, a single SharePoint document, rather than an entire site.”

Rowland G., Product Brand Manager at Epsidon Technology Distribution, states, “The one thing for the last 12 months which has been very good for Veritas was the instance-based license. This means that you're able to license per instance, not only per physical server. And also, the incremental backup which they introduced for virtual servers, where it makes it much quicker to restore, it just automatically is able to mount it back to the original backup. This makes it much quicker when you're doing the restore.”
