We performed a comparison between Informatica PowerCenter and Oracle OBIEE based on real PeerSpot user reviews.
Find out what your peers are saying about Microsoft, Informatica, Oracle and others in Data Integration."Complex transformations can be easily achieved by using PowerCenter. The processing layer does transformations and other things. About 80% of my transformations can be achieved by using the middle layer. For the remaining 15% to 20% transformations, I can go in and create stored procedures in the respective databases. Mapplets is the feature through which we can reuse transformations across pipelines. Transformations and caching are the key features that we have been using frequently. Informatica PowerCenter is one of the best solutions or products in the data integration space. We have extensively used PowerCenter for integration purposes. We usually look at the best bridge solution in our architecture so that it can sustain for maybe a couple of years. Usually, we go with the solution that fits best and has proven and time-tested technology."
"We use Informatica PowerCenter to transfer the transitional database to and from the data warehouse. This is very efficient as it enables us to quickly find our data reports and the data, so we can build AI models."
"The setup is straightforward."
"It has good standard features for ETL development."
"If the systems get migrated or upgraded, the amount of resources required are very minimal. We can change the connections and establish a new connection. It's very helpful."
"It is an excellent ETL tool."
"The partitioning and optimization to help enhance our development is a very valuable aspect of Informatica PowerCenter."
"The most valuable features are the monitoring tools and the reporting manager."
"Its robustness is most valuable. It can handle massive amounts of data quickly. If it's properly configured and tuned, it can handle massive amounts of data very quickly to produce results. That to me is the number one feature."
"The main features of this solution are that it is easy to use, intuitive, and user-friendly. When I retrieve the data from the database it is in a very raw form, then when I use the Oracle Report Builder it has advanced intelligence features to allow me to view and make changes to the data easily."
"It provides excellent stability."
"Ability to create our own reports."
"The dashboard and analysis are the most valuable features of this solution."
"I have found the most valuable features are business intelligence and reporting."
"It mostly supports enterprise level data. We have millions of records on a daily basis."
"I like the scheduling feature. It has an inbuilt scheduler which is very good, and it allows us to create agents, and those agents can be scheduled. It's quite flexible in that respect and goes into our IT infrastructure. The outputs are sent encrypted to various endpoints. Some are internal, and some are our clients, and it's encrypted at a high level. I do find Oracle OBIEE flexible. If there is stuff that's not in your model or schema, it's very flexible to create SQL scripts and create the data you want. It's quite nice to create a dashboard in OBIEE, and that's pretty straightforward in the way you drag and drop everything. You can create sections, and you can add elements to your page. That bit of the interface is relatively straightforward."
"I found it is kind of weird that not all of the mapping changes are treated as true changes."
"In terms of performance improvement and tuning, there should be a bit more guidance and documentation."
"Unstructured data handling is an important area with a shortcoming that needs improvement in the solution."
"The licensing cost for Informatica is very high. Other all-in-one solutions have much lower prices than Informatica."
"The reputation of Informatica is that it is expensive."
"The UI is outdated and old-fashioned, at least in our current version. Also, we have experienced some stability issues with the Workflow Monitor application."
"As a connector to big data, it is not well developed. We've had problems connecting Informatica with Hadoop. The functionality to connect Informatica with Hadoop, for me it's not good."
"The documentation could be improved."
"I would like to see Machine Learning included in this solution."
"The development effort takes longer than other BI tools currently on the market."
"When a large number of queries are running at the same time, the report fails."
"The solution is too expensive for small firms."
"There should be more integration in the solution. For example, there should be one solution with multiple functionalities so that other solutions are not needed. Having one solution with all the needed functionality would be helpful."
"It is very biased towards Oracle infrastructure. One of the major red flags we have at the moment against Oracle is that it doesn't support deployment on other cloud providers. We're quite heavily vested in AWS as our infrastructure, and Oracle is yet to formally support deploying on those virtual infrastructure instances. That's quite disappointing, and it also cuts them out of over 70% of the market."
"The pricing model could be improved. Right now, it's quite confusing. Many customers have this feeling that it's a super-expensive option."
"Oracle products have a lot of complications...Oracle has a history of not really providing great support."
