We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"It's one of the first to encrypt DB2 databases.""The reporting side is also very, very good, especially its flexibility which allows you to tailor the reports to whatever information you want.""The possible number of databases and database servers which can be monitored by Guardium is high. For me, this is a differentiator of IBM.""I like the reporting mechanism. It's very good.""The most valuable features have been how easy it is to deploy and use, as well as the comprehensive monitoring options. These are a few things that customers like most about this product.""The vulnerability assessment is a valuable feature.""Our main focus for IBM Guardium is to support security initiatives and compliance policies within our organization. We use the DPD product for monitoring, especially for GDPR, SOX regulations and, of course, the vulnerability assessment that we use to make sure we're keeping up with our patches, making sure things are configured, making sure we're following the best practices.""The most valuable feature is using the capture operation mode “S-TAP/K-TAP agent”, because all activities in the database are captured, including direct access to the database server by privileged users. This is useful because, even if the database server logs were deleted, the Guardium Collector has already stored such data to enable traceability of access."

"A solution which does what other name brand products do for a lower cost.""The integration is great.""The most valuable features of Imperva SecureSphere Database Security are the user-friendliness, easy-to-use interface compared to competitors, database operations do not need a specialist, and simple to manage for our security team. Additionally, the solution can show all the databases and the level of sensitivity. It can show what is more sensitive or less sensitive.""We use it for database security, vulnerability analysis, discovery, and handling requests from applications and users.""The tool happens to be very intelligent when it comes to processing policies and sounding alerts. It allows us to implement policies and measure actions against them, raising alerts accordingly.""The most valuable feature is the Data Masking.""The product’s most valuable feature is real-time highlights.""The most valuable feature is the automatic reports on new databases, which gives us up-to-date inventory management."

Cons
"An area for improvement would be the user interface - currently, it takes around two to three months to become comfortable using it.""Right now, we're in the development phase for IBM Guardium Data Protection, so I don't have any recommendations about additional features and room for improvement in the solution. We're very excited to work on IBM Guardium Data Protection because we are new to the solution, and we're still exploring product features. We're very excited about integrations and use case creation, and it's only after six to eight months that I'll be able to share my recommendations in terms of additional features the solution should have. We did find some difficulty in deploying IBM Guardium Data Protection here in Pakistan because of the lack of resources.""The ability for Central Managers to talk to one another could be improved. I have 26 Central Managers and 26 silos which are independent.""It needs an integration with Optum.""It was difficult implementing it, configuring it, getting it up and running and in production. However, since then, I believe it has stabilized.""Could be more user friendly; deployment is a little complex.""The biggest complaint that I hear from customers and users is that using this solution requires database skills, yet it is a security and monitoring tool.""Personally, I would not recommend this product."

"Overall, it's a very good product but they could do with some modifications log-wise.""Imperva needs to improve their cloud capabilities.""I'd like to see some sort of solution for storage.""The solution needs local support.""They can maybe look at its pricing model. Its pricing could be cheaper for the African countries or developing economies.""Reporting could be improved.""It is very expensive. Its price can be better.""Data encryption. Yeah, Imperva needs to pull up on data encryption and make it a standard feature to allow maybe for tokenization, encryption of data, and things like that."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "We haven't talked much about pricing and licencing. But it is not cheap for sure"
  • "I would suggest to review the type of data, need for security, and if the organizational structure needs the options IBM Guardium provides."
  • "If you are researching this type of solution, work with IBM."
  • "Guardium has not saved us time or money."
  • "The biggest challenge is the cost associated with the product, and the cost of maintaining. Everything is not translated directly to the benefits we see. There are benefits, yes, but if I were writing the check, would I buy Guardium? No."
  • "Guardium won mostly because of our scope and scale. It was able to perform at the scale that we wanted to use it. "
  • "The price of Guardium is higher than the main competitor, Imperva. In addition, it's complex as the calculation of the licensing is done by Processor Value Unit (PVU). However, before purchasing a DAP solution, it is important to analyze specific points to evaluate the cost-benefit of each tool. For example: Does the environment to be monitored have mainframes? If so, it's a point for Guardium. If not, a point for Imperva. Note: IBM is looking into a new licensing policy and reducing the price of Guardium."
  • "One of the deployments that I know of had three databases, and the yearly fees are approximately $50,000 USD."

  • "The cost of support for this solution is very expensive."
  • "Licensing fees are on a yearly basis, and it is a good value for the money."
  • "There is an annual licensing fee for upgrading the device."
  • "Pricing is low and scalable to add features and volume."
  • "The pricing over-all depends on the entry level. For example, if support and maintenance are about $20,000 - $25,000, the initial cost can be five times more. It is less expensive for the company to maintain the client than to make the deployment."
  • "We have all the licenses, which we pay for annually. The price is a little high, but the product is good."
  • "They have introduced new price models, which makes the product more affordable now."
  • "The price is very high but compared to the price of the overall solution, then I think it's a good deal because the solution itself is great."
