We performed a comparison between Microsoft BI and MicroStrategy based on our users’ reviews in five categories. After reading all of the collected data, you can find our conclusion below.
Comparison Results: Users gave Microsoft BI higher ratings. Compared to MicroStrategy, Microsoft BI has slightly better features, and users were happy with the ROI.
"The most valuable feature of the solution is that it is an easy-to-use tool."
"What I have found valuable about Microsoft BI is its performance and ease of use. The interface is very simple and it is accessible to everyone. If someone is new to this type of solution it is straightforward to understand."
"They should add mobile access."
"This product has a lot of features and most of them are user-friendly."
"The solution overall is very useful. The reports that are generated and the reporting functionality management are beneficial."
"I have found the most valuable feature of this solution is the Natural Language tool."
"It's a great tool for visualization data, and it's free for engineers."
"There is a lot of variety in Power BI. In particular, the visuals are quite rich and the feature set has been growing rapidly in the last two years. Possibly the best part for me is that there are a lot of ways to connect with data sources."
"It is definitely customizable. We have been able to put in key metrics and performance indicators, thus it is customizable."
"MicroStrategy's solution for mobile is very good."
"Workstation and Desktop on the client side will speed up some development activities."
"Scalability is fantastic. It can go from a small operation up to a gigantic operation. "
"The solution has excellent features available on mobile."
"On our mobile solution you can deploy up to 100,000 users. In our case, we're up to about 10,000 active users, and MicroStrategy's server technology behind the scenes, the Intelligence Server and the Mobile Servers, are very robust and they can handle the workload."
"MicroStrategy has what they call the Semantic Graph — an enterprise-grade semantic graph — and I think the technology is fantastic."
"I have shown our users how to stop using Excel. They would create these vast Excel files, and I showed them how to do the same thing with MicroStrategy, which saves a significant amount of time for them everyday."
"In the future, Microsoft BI can be better by increasing user-friendliness"
"Automation could be improved and performance enhanced."
"Power BI's administration could use some work, and the user experience needs to improve because it is a client-based tool. If you want to generate a model or report, you need to use client tools, but client tools are limited for end-users who don't have enough hardware. For example, maybe a client lacks enough memory or CPU power for report generators. If you use a model that requires a massive amount of data, your client will face several problems."
"Microsoft needs to provide more drivers to connect other data sources in a native way."
"It is not yet ready for enterprises. For a big enterprise data model, it is not so stable, and it also doesn't scale so well."
"It would be nice to use other connectors to link with the data."
"It should have more integrations."
"Its desktop tool is a little bit memory CPU intensive, and it can be improved, but the machines nowadays come with a lot of memory. For the desktop users who are using it on the desktop, we recommend that they do an upgrade. It is a minor issue. We can fix it on the desktop."
"From a stability standpoint, from MicroStrategy, I would say it's fairly consistent. I would give it a "B" because there are times where we have issues that are just inexplicable. They go away and then we have no resolution. To me, that's not acceptable. There are just times where our users can't access things and we're not sure why, and that's a problem to me."
"We haven't invested in the mobile platform. We want to invest, but the problem is the security. We are in the health domain, so we have PHI data."
"Lacks decent visualization and the process for creating new objects needs to be simplified."
"The solution lacks good visualization. They should work on the user interface to make it more slick and modern."
"The areas that have room for improvement in MicroStrategy are mainly related to building additional tools. Specifically, the embedding process has been a bit of a struggle."
"Sometimes, it has become too complex to upgrade and adjust to the ecosystem."
"Currently, the client view looks completely different depending on what you are building."
"It needs row-level security, column-level security, on attributes. I want to be able to handle full-scale security model from the semantic layer, flat out."
